I purchased a Rouge H Kelly bag through the Heritage Auction this month... It is from the 90's and in beautiful shape, but without the shoulder strap. I'm new to this forum but I understand that Rouge H has changed, and I will likely not be able to replace the strap. The auction house is offering to refund part of the purchase price or to allow me to return the bag, as they did not disclose that it was missing. Any advice?

While it's true a per-owned shoulder strap in a similar color perhaps from a similar year of production as the kelly you have can be found if you search for it. A new one from H might not match and is rather expensive ... I guess the question is have you fallen in love with the bag? Do you really need a shoulder strap in order to enjoy the bag? Have you paid to much? Have a think on it all... Rouge H Kellys aren't that hard to find...should you wish to try your luck again in finding one with a shoulder strap.
I hope this helps?
All the best,doc

Hi Docride...I am in desperate need of your advice, as I know you are THE leather care guru!

I purchased these amazing Hermes boots in Etoupe a few weeks ago, and have worn them twice. Sadly, I didn't think to treat them with anything before wearing them, and this morning as I was preparing lunch I noticed a few tiny spots on them. I thought at first it was water droplets, so I wasn't concerned, until I looked closer and realized it was spots of Quinoa that had jumped off my spoon (don't ask), and landed on the boot. I brushed it off, but one left a spot that did not go away! And I realized I had drizzled the quinoa with olive oil !:wtf:

But I was in a rush to get to work, and later I saw this other LARGER stain on the back!!!! Help!

I know the tiny spot is a drop of oil, which won't come out with any kind of blotting, but the larger one? It hasn't faded and I noticed it a few hours ago .

I believe the boots are swift, as it is an un-grained very supple leather very unlike my Kelly Jumping boots. What to do? I'm familiar with the B & O method (have done for many bags).....is there something I can do to blend it? Clean it? Help!!

Try using a degreaser mask off the area and spray the area only allow the spray to become a yellow powder (About 24 hrs) and remove it with a soft brush...If your stain is gone great..if still present to some degree repeat the whole process.
You can find professional leather degreaser at

Good luck:smile1:

Oh thank you so much!!! :smooch:

I hadn't thought of that, and had previously had good experiences with using something like that to remove oil/grease stains from fabric. Will try. Then will treat!!! I'll let you know how it turns out!

Happy Holidays!

Hi Docride!

I've just purchased a 1985 (stamp O in a circle) lizard 23cm Constance. It is in pristine condition and I believe it doesn't need Hermes spa for the time being. But I'd like to know what usual protocol you'll suggest for care during/after using (e.g. should not be touched by hands with hand cream? what should I do when I'm using the bag and it's raining? should clean by what type of cloth before putting back to sleeper?).

TIA! :flowers:

Hello Docride,
:smile1:Long time since I've been out here. Hope you're having a great holiday.
Anyway, I recently found this YSL large Muse that has some sort of liquid stains on it down the front of the bag (the worst) and a little on the bottom and the back.(found as is)
The bag itself is leather and is in great shape. But what to do about the stains? Have a look at the pictures and let me know what you think

Hi,
I found a vintage white kelly on bay and was wondering if anyone knows how much Hermes charges for a white leather strap and also on the handle of the kelly, a small patch of leather is missing..could that be repaired or do I have to get a new handle as well??
I read all the posts re: strap replacement but only found the price for a canvas strap..any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thank you so much for that info! But any idea on how much a strap would be? And how long did it take you to get it back???

I would've normally never considered buying a vintage piece b/c I'm just not handy in leather care, but it's THE perfect bag that I was looking for and I just hope it'll all work out.

I do not have those anwers for you, perhaps ask in the open forum area? Good luck.

It's lizard? Ah this will take some care, do not leave the bag in direct sunlight, handle with clean hands (no hand cream) do not use the bag when it's rainig or use a plastic cover bag should you get caught in rain. A clean soft white lint free cloth will be perfect for a gentle wipe down before storage. I hope this helps? Enjoy your special bag.
