My bag is iris.

Congrats! What a lovely color Iris is. Generally speaking Togo leather should not require any weather proofing; simply pat you bag dry with a soft white towel if it gets wet. As to keeping your bag looking new for the longest time possible.. here are some tips
1) When not in use store your bag straped closed and laying on it's back in it's dust bag.
2) if you live in a damp climate it's important to not leave the plastic on the hardware as mositure can seep under and lead to pitting of the metal.
3) do not expose your bag to long periods of direct sunlight.
4) do not spray your bag down with any silicone or acrylic protective sprays these are not good for the leather...

I hope this helps?

Awe poor old girl... can she be saved? I think so. She' doesn't scare me;) She needs professional help though. Not sure if you can get the prettest white again though ,would need to see and feel the leather.. is it cracking you think?
I think she's a great rescue project.

I'm so glad you're not afraid of her :) I think any improvement would be a major step up for this bag. The leather above the "Hermes" stamp feels funny to the touch so it most likely has leather issues although some restitching might remedy some of that. I'm so curious to see what was so very terrible about the original colored leather that made someone intentionally "paint" her. I sincerely hope it wasn't because of a small pen mark or something equally as trivial. The inside of the bag is a weird yellowing color which is the worst I've even seen but I can't tell if it's due to aging or the paint inside turning color? I think you are right - she needs a rescue. I'll PM you about the details.

Could be that she yellowed on the outside or got some stains and there fore someone painted her. Keeping in mind that even Hermes paints white bags... it's all in the technique and the quality of the products used.

Could be ... I leave it in your expert hands. I'm just guessing at this point since it is waaaayyyy beyond my skill set!

Please don't PM docride. She is not allowed to do any business on tPF, not even via PM. Please take all business OFF tPF to keep everyone from getting into trouble w/ our rules.

:ty:

Oh, no, that was not my intent at all! I wanted to solicit doc's opinion on whether this poor bag could be saved and asked if I could mail it to her for a closer inspection. She offered to see what she could do to improve the bag's condition completely free of charge, and I offered to pay postage both ways so she wouldn't be out-of-pocket for shipping costs.

I am so sorry if I created the impression that services were being sold or bought. By no means did I intend to do anything that resembled buying/selling on tPf since I am very much aware of the rules and try my best to be a good forum member. I didn't mean to create any misunderstanding.

:shame:

I purchased a Rouge H Kelly bag through the Heritage Auction this month... It is from the 90's and in beautiful shape, but without the shoulder strap. I'm new to this forum but I understand that Rouge H has changed, and I will likely not be able to replace the strap. The auction house is offering to refund part of the purchase price or to allow me to return the bag, as they did not disclose that it was missing. Any advice?

Hi Docride...I am in desperate need of your advice, as I know you are THE leather care guru!

I purchased these amazing Hermes boots in Etoupe a few weeks ago, and have worn them twice. Sadly, I didn't think to treat them with anything before wearing them, and this morning as I was preparing lunch I noticed a few tiny spots on them. I thought at first it was water droplets, so I wasn't concerned, until I looked closer and realized it was spots of Quinoa that had jumped off my spoon (don't ask), and landed on the boot. I brushed it off, but one left a spot that did not go away! And I realized I had drizzled the quinoa with olive oil !:wtf:

But I was in a rush to get to work, and later I saw this other LARGER stain on the back!!!! Help!

I know the tiny spot is a drop of oil, which won't come out with any kind of blotting, but the larger one? It hasn't faded and I noticed it a few hours ago .

I believe the boots are swift, as it is an un-grained very supple leather very unlike my Kelly Jumping boots. What to do? I'm familiar with the B & O method (have done for many bags).....is there something I can do to blend it? Clean it? Help!!
