allanrvj, We all have to keep the faith. That's what it's all about. :)
These price increases don't help though.

Speaking of DH's and significant others, I was always curious
about this. Currently, I am single, and waiting for "the right
guy" to come into my life - now, when I do meet "thee guy"
I have no intention of telling him of my love for H. It's
too expensive and I don't want to seem like the golddigger
type, "Honey, buy this for me!"

Would you share your love of the brand with your
special someone? If you did, would you hint that you
would want them to buy the bag for you? I've read
on numerous threads that Hermes kind-of respects male
customers more (which is upsetting in 2008, esp. when
we were this close to having a woman in the White House).

There's a certain satisfaction coming with saving and buying
the bag MYSELF. Don't get me wrong, I wish a rigide Bolide
with PH fell off a turnip truck...but, I like that I'm saving for
one. I don't know if I would want a future sweetie to come in
and buy the bag for me in one swoop.

Now, if he somehow found out (like if we used the same
computer) and purchased a gift for me, that'd be different,
but I'd never be, "Honey, you have to buy me this fabulous
H bag!"

Sorry for the ramble, but I'm curious to know
how the single women out there feel about this topic,
especially in this "good things comes to those of us
who wait" thread.

The bottom line is: would you prefer to buy the
H bag of your dreams with your own money?

^^^ To take a lighthearted view on this I would say....I'd much rather have someone else buy my H for me!! Howevere in reality it's down to me. My other half knows my obsession and providing I pay my bills and don't drive myself crazy into debt then he's happy with what I'm doing.

He said that after my SO I have to wait at least a year or two for my next Birkin though

Hi everyone, just thought I'd say "hi". I can't remember if I ever posted to this thread or not. I go back & forth with owning an H bag--I think I've finally narrowed it down to a 28 sellier kelly or 30 Lindy (not sure on leather, yet). We are far from rich, but DH does have a very stable well-paying job. We have zero credit card debt, pay on a 15 yr mortgage, and have the 3 months salary in savings. We also have 2 young boys, with one of them having autism. If I wanted to, I could go out today and purchase that Lindy; however, I'm having SUCH difficulty justifying such a large purchase. We could always use that money for our son in some way. I'm also perfectly content with owning pre-owned bags. I diligently watch ebay. I think I would like the Lindy in chartreuse or vert anis or maybe potiron, while I'd prefer the kelly to be some shade of brown. I'm with you guys in if they keep increasing these prices, I'll never get to own a bag.

Kelly_Birkin, I definitely buy my grail bags with my own money. I save for it and work out my own finances.

That said, if my fiance/future husband knew what I was in love with, and surprised me with that bag, it would of course be very special because I know he worked hard to save for it. (He's definitely NOT a sugar daddy.) And in return, I would take my "bag savings" and treat him to something special.

Also, my fiance did hunt down the BV Sloane for me in Ferro when the Ferro color was said to be impossible to get, and I was on a self-imposed ban anyway. He bought it for me as a "pre-engagement" present...:heart:

Hi Amy!! It's nice having a little "poor H" community, isn't it? :p I hear you about having to justify such a large purchase... Would it make you feel better to set aside a different savings account just for yourself, and put in a really small fraction of your money every month or so? This way, over time, you'll know that the sum that accumulated never really took away from your son or your family. Plus, treating yourself and putting yourself first once in awhile can really go a long way...

EBay is not that bad, by the way, if you know where to look. Luckily we have really hard-working tPFers who authenticate bags for us freely, and there are known re-sellers who do sell bags at a lower price point than retail. The dream is closer than it seems!

Bluegenes--thanks, and yes I do have my own little savings account. Silly girl that I am, I broke down and spent $1200 on a new LV bag that I do love. I am so BAD at saving. If I could find that green/leather combo I want in a Lindy, I'm thinking I should be able to find it for around 4K? I'm also watching a brown box kelly right now, so we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the welcome!

I think I need to get comfy here, DH needed a defibrillator after last months credit card bill. He doesn't care about my spending, but when he was doing the bills he wrote me a note asking if "all these charges to Hermes" were correct? Yes dear, you saw the shopping bags in the hotel. :shame:
Yikes...So, I suppose a wee ban is in order even though I'm dreaming of something in bleu roi.....:sweatdrop:
I made a deal that I would clean out the closet and ebay all my extra rubbish that's sitting around unused before...ahem...making another major trip to H. :p

I think my interest in handbags would become quite obvious, eventually.
Some of these guys I have dated never muffle their interest or ownership in sports or high-performance cars....

I would, though, accept an "engagement birkin" over an "engagement ring" if I had to make a choice!!!!!
(But BOTH would be preferable)

This is a great, thought-provoking question.

I personally wouldn't have it any other way. It's more meaningful to me because I know I earned it myself with my own time and effort. Plus, I can compliment myself on my great taste! LOL!

My SO knows nothing about H and I like to keep it that way! He's noticeably uncomfortable at any store fancier than Macy's and loves shopping for deals. I do too, but I know that getting a pre-loved Birkin would not count as a "deal" in his mind!

Yes. Of course. On the other hand if I had a supportive DH or SO who wanted to buy THE bag for me, I wouldn´t say no. I like to be independent but I also love gifts. I love giving gifts and receiving them as well. Of course H bag is not just an ordinary gift but if the money was not an issue, I could aceept H bag as a gift.

My hubby is EXACTLY like that too! His idea of shopping is go to a store, pick out 5 of the SAME pants and leave without trying them on. He HATES all of my bags... The other day I went home with my second spy bag and he was like, "don't you have one JUST like that?"

HELLO, one is pythons and the other one is just regular leather.

Then he got upset coz I got two of the same "kind", but since it's with my own money, he can't really say anything.:nuts::nuts:

So the bottom line is: I've bought ALL my bags myself. That includes my chanels, my fendis and my H. And I'm proud of them! :yahoo:
