Silk sale inventory is not current season (in fact this upcoming one is from Fall 2012 and older) unless deemed defective (you have to inspect closely, especially cashmere or summer twill GM), so the sale does not impact the regular inventory. Remember the sale items are items that were not sold during the past two years or older, so it's reasonable to expect colorways that are too horrid that nobody bothered. Those asides, there are other beautiful items and are great finds.
There is no leather goods nor bags, so the sale is also not impacting the inventory at the stores. Most sale items were already marked S and set aside from the sale from a bit ago as well.
The sale is at the conference center named Palais de Congres (almost near the suburb of Paris, Neuilly sur Seine/La Defense), not at H stores.

Thank you so much for the helpful explanation! I guess I was also wondering if anyone had noticed that the regular inventory was more depleted simply because there are so many H fans in Paris attending the sale who also stop by the store to shop regular inventory. Maybe it's not the same crowd?

Well, the sale is in June, which is during the peak tourist season in Paris, there will be a whole lot more of foreign visitors anyway, sale or not.

Good point!

I really cannot imagine being able to inspect for damage on any item if the sale scene is as frantic as I imagine...
You have time to carefully inspect, purselover, as people enter ten by ten in the silks and in the GM/men's dept and have 10 or 15 mn to choose and buy. The line up is crazy, though...

I second Anfang's comments, you really should inspect before you buy. Some of these items were put into the sale because they have defects, some get a bit mangled in the frenzied shopping at the sale. The sale is crowded, but one must expect that and just roll with the punches. There is a lot of fun stuff and there are some very unusual pieces as well.

About the only thing you can count on is that the lines are long, but that is part of the experience!

How is the regular inventory at the stores during the sale period? Is it super bad with so many H fans in Paris?

I used to live in Paris and didn't notice any significant difference in stock levels during the H sale period. Fashion Week has more of an impact! However, I did discover that at least the rue de Sèvres store cleared out its stockroom before the sales, meaning you could find some lovely surprises in store. For example, I found a 90cm Ex Libris en Kimonos in cw 1 at Sèvres during the Jan 2013 sale. It was the only ELenK on sale, had been put out that morning and boy did I snap it up!

Wow! Sounds awesome! :)

Does anyone know if it will be significantly more difficult to score a birkin during the sale period due to the higher volume of customers? I'm currently planning my trip to Paris and that is the most convenient week for me to go.
I'm not really interested in the sale. I would like to buy a few other items but to me it's not worth it to line up for hours and deal with crowds to get H items that are discounted. I've tried b hunting in so many cities without luck so hopefully fsh is lucky for me.

I'm tempted to go again to the sale, and although I didn't score anything great last time, it was still a nice experience...

I don't recall a London sample sale...I remember the festival des métier though...

I've been-- was among the first group through the door. Typing this on my phone so won't be too detailed at the moment.

The Good: more wearable colors in the GMs this year (for me, anyway). Blues, whites, creams, blacks aplenty. Decent stock of summer twills and dip dyes and cashmeres, though all formats scant compared to my first sale trip in 2011. I picked up a Clic Clac a Pois GM, two magic Kelly GMs, a mousse Flots, and a mousse gavroche. Can expand on offerings if you're interested in any particular patterns and formats.

The Bad: I've never witnessed such appalling and disrespectful behavior in my life (and I've been to these sales several times). At one point I was bent double trying to protect a stack of mousselines from women who'd surrounded me and were clawing and yanking at them with their fingernails. I didn't even want to buy those particular ones-- I just happened to be looking through them when they pounced and couldn't bear to see such beautiful things treated that way! And just to add to the picture, I'm 5'10 and towered over the mousseline assailants, but they were DETERMINED-- it was like they had just lost all reason.

Also saw what I assume was a pro reseller and her crew of three people with their printed lists of color ways and patterns-- basically a roll call of TPF faves. But at least they weren't beating anyone up, so I have no gripes with them!

I hope it calms down later in the week, bc today was grotesque!

Calexandre, you brave soul silk sister! Can well imagine trying to save the mousselines from the onslaught of rushing nails and fingers! Please do share your lovely finds when you can and enjoy the rest of the week at the infamous summer sales! P.s. Mousseline favor he's? Have not seen these since 2007! Curious of what mousse patterns there were to be had.

Hi Lanit! Oh, you gave me a good excuse to pull out my purchases for a peek!

Among the mousse selection were Flots in a few colorways, Axis Mundi in 3 cws, Ceintures, and a few one-offs: I just missed a chartreuse Guepards, but quickly got over the burn when I realized it likely had a defect to be in the sale so soon after its release. (Shhh nobody tell me otherwise!)

I saw no stoles or PMs. The gavroches surprised me too-- there were two colorways of Effluves and a Les Pivoines.

I'm considering going back Friday to see if they dredge up more mousses, but I need a day to recover for sure!
