What are the current choices for "a la carte" Special Order bags?

What is an Hermes Special Order?
Each year Hermes gives select clients the opportunity to customize a classic bag in a made-to-order a la carte process. This thread is only for bag A La Carte orders (please use the separate threads for watch SOs and shoe SOs). "A la carte", "SO" (special order), and "HSS" (horse shoe stamp) are used interchangeably on this forum.

When is the Special Order season?
Currently, there is one SO season each calendar year, opening around the middle of February and closing when slots run out or the end of December, whichever occurs first. New SO menus are typically leaked in February and remain constant until the following calendar year. Individual stores have complete discretion on when, within this window, they offer SO appointments to their clients.

Which specs can I customize?
Hermes defines which specs can be customized and these specs can change each SO season. Generally these specs include: leather type, leather color, and hardware color. At your SO appointment, your SA will present you will the limited menu of choices including bag types and sizes (Birkin 25, Kelly 28, etc), pre-set combination designs (line, verso, multico, etc), leather choices, leather colors, hardwares, and a map for which options can be selected for which bag type and size. Not all leathers and hardwares are allowed for all bag types and sizes.

Can I make physical changes to a bag definition during SO?
Sometimes clients would like to change a physical aspect of a bag, like increase the handle drop or add a pocket or a strap. Unfortunately, Hermes does not allow any type of alteration to the bag definition during SO. For extensive changes like these, a client would need to pursue a “Horizon order” which can be read about here.

How long will my SO take?
There is no way to predict how long a SO will take from placing the order to receipt of the finished product. Although Hermes has recently put forward efforts to fulfill a la carte orders within a year, it isn’t uncommon for bags to arrive in just a few months or also much longer than the year estimate.

Can my SA give me status my existing SO?
Unfortunately, the info that can be seen by SAs at the local store is very limited. They can generally see if the order is still outstanding (ie hasn’t been cancelled) but do not get status updates beyond that. Some stores will update clients when they get notice that a bag has been shipped from Paris but other stores wait until the bag is physically in store before alerting the client.

Do I need to place a deposit for SO?
In most regions of the world, a deposit is not required for SOs. However, some Asian and Middle Eastern locations do seem to request at least a partial deposit. Deposits may also be required in other regions if the SO selections are very personalized (ie if you have your personal initials hot stamped onto the bag) such that selling the bag to a different client, if the original client declines the bag, would be difficult.

Do I receive confirmation of my SO after placing my order?
In most regions of the world, the client gives their specifications to their SA and that is the last they hear about it until the bag arrives. Paris stores seem to be an exception to this and send the client a confirmation email within a few weeks of placing the order.

Is there a premium for a SO bag?
No, there is no premium price for SO bags. Their price is the same as any other standard stock bag of the same specifications at the time of delivery.

Is my SO a quota bag?
SO bags are generally counted toward a client’s two-bags-per-year limit at the time that the bag is received and paid for. If a client has already maxed out their quota bag allocation for the year, some stores will allow an exception to purchase your SO as a third bag for the year while other stores will require the customer to wait until a new calendar year before receiving the bag. These policies are subject to be changed per store at their convenience so it is always wise to check with your specific SA.

Where can I get ideas for my SO bag?
This thread shows unique combination bags and this thread shows contrasting stitching bags. Please consider posting your bag there once it arrives!

Data point for those in a similar position. Just saw a huge spender (she's also a reseller by business) be refused to purchase her completed SO despite it being ready in store because she has already gotten her two quota bags for the year. She has easily spent over seven figures with H this year and they are still making her wait until January. Seems like exceptions to the two bag per profile rule are now extremely rare.
My SA also confirmed this. Collect SO this year and no additional QB since it will count as your second bag.

That's normal and how its always been. The change is that in the past, if you were a good client and you had already gotten two quota bags when your SO arrived, you would be granted an exception to still purchase your SO that year as a third quota bag. It appears now as though these exceptions are no longer being granted, even for VIPS, and folks are being made to wait until the next calendar year when their SO will count for quota bag 1 of 2025 on January 2nd.

Hello,

Anyone here in Switzerland had a similar experience? I am expexting my quota bag after waiting for almost 1.5 years since my last QB. However, I have recently gotten my SO after waiting for 2 years and of course I took it. Does anyone know if it means I won’t be getting my actual quota that I’ve been waiting for? Will the SO count towards my quota of the year?

Thank you :)

Your SO would have definitely counted as a quota bag purchase for this year. Whether or not that takes you out of the running for another QB is likely a case by case question and best to ask your SA for any meaningful answer.

I’m too scared to ask my S.A. right now.. she’ll think I’m greedy 😂😂 but thank you! Since what I know Switzerland have a policy of 1 bag per year, so I guess the SO would be my quota.

Already posted in the German Hermes thread but I would LOVE your input!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for insight / opinions on which bag to choose for my a la carte order. At the moment the only QB I have from this boutique is a K28 which I got in July. My husband thinks I should go for the Mini Kelly but I am really interested in the Kelly Pochette, however a B is also not out of the question. I have tried on a MK and B25/30 on in the boutique, but as KP are quite rare I've never seen or handled it in person...

I know this is such a personal choice but I do not have any friends who have opinions or interest in Hermes and would love to hear your opinions! This would be a bag I use for shopping days / casual dinners.

My process of thinking (which is driving me crazy):

If MK, I would go for Chevre
Cons: very small, hard to get into
Pros: has feet + strap

If KP, in swift (...Is it a QB in Germany? If not, would it also be possible to make a QB wishlist while the SO is being made?)
Cons: no feet, no hands free carry
Pros: easier to obtain via SO, more capacious than an MK as I like to carry hand sanitizer / lip product / mini perfume along with basics

If B25/30, if box leather were an option for SO I would never hesitate, I would go for a B 100%:
Cons: can't make SO in box leather which is my dream combo (worth waiting until QB wishlist next year?), not a dinner bag
Pros: easy for daily use, grab and go bag, nice color options for togo / chevre for this year's SO

Thank you so much in advance for your opinions!! Posting my K28 (bleu nuit / togo) which I got in July as tax

PS: A bit off topic, but my SA has told me that there are a few changes from the colors available in the spring SO vs now. He showed me the changes and for chèvre leather bleu fonce and/or(?) bleu marine had been replaced with bleu navy. (Edit to add: sorry!! misremembered the colors. Bleu navy was always there)
The changes seemed very minimal. I can report back after my appointment if anybody is interested.

It depends on the store....in some stores the KP is a quota, in others not. What's your home store?
I have one, Iove it, but don't use it for shopping. The small handles would bother me. For shopping i use a B25 or K25. I use my KP for lunch/dinner (restaurant)
FFM is my local store. Ah you’re very right, it’s definitely not the best option for shopping especially as it’s not a hands free bag. I should have clarified, I meant more like a bag for when I go out shopping with my husband, so the contents would be mostly cosmetic and sanitary items 😂 If I was out alone I’d probably carry my K28 or similar sized bag so I can have everything with me.

Thank you so much for your reply

Would love more info on the color updates. Blue Navy is already on the menu so that wouldn’t be “new” (unless you meant that it was the color being replaced).

As for which bag to pick, I am a huge proponent for the mini kelly. The KP’s swift leather + no strap + no feet turns into a deal breaker for me personally and I basically never carry my KP but carry my mini Kelly’s pretty much daily. (And I shivered a bit reading about putting all those liquids into a swift KP! Playing Tetris to fit a thing of hand sanitizer into a KP sounds like a surefire way to accidentally ruin the bag.) Good luck deciding!

Thank you for your reply! I’ve never had liquids spill yet but knowing my luck it would probably happen with the KP 😂 I’ll have to reconsider my options once again haha

Oh, I was under the impression that bleu navy in chèvre was a new addition, I was totally wrong now that I’m looking again at the charts. My SA did say there were “some” changes but he didn’t specify exactly which colors were removed or added, and only showed me the current chart from his phone… I’ll have to update this thread in case I just gave out some misinformation 😅

I was told twice (from my SA and another SA) that it's a quota in Ffm (two years ago). But it never hurts to ask.
If you're not shopping for hours then it might be the right one for you. You can only put a few items inside, but a cellphone fits very well. Because of that I wanted it before getting a MK. IMO it's more chic than other B/K's because of the swift leather
