well it took well more than 3 weeks: 4 months, but they had to order the handle in paris as they say it's impossible to make it here in italy. and they put the new kelly2 handle instead of the old one.
pics before (before the handle was actually torn apart) and after, together with invoice. great job, bag looks almost like new.

Amazing! 😱 It almost looks like a new Kelly now.

I have bought my first B back in 2009 and would definitely need to give it a spa treatment now. I called the Hermes boutique in France today and they told me that it takes 4-6 months for a typical spa and there will be detailed price list from Paris depending on what needs to be done to the bag.

Thanks for all your experience sharing and advice. One question I do still have and I don't seem to see it in the quoted price list is: do they offer to replace the side panels? As my back is 6 years old and mostly in a standing position, the side panels slouch quite a bit. Hence I would like to have them replaced.

Thanks for your advice!

Hi everyone, I am looking to purchase a pre-loved Birkin. I am noticing that many bags have some wear on each of the four corners of the base. In many cases, the color has worn off. Is this something that Hermes can refurbish?

Thanks so much!

It depends on the leather and the amount of wear. Some leathers refurbish better than others. For example, there isn't much you can do with pressed/embossed leathers like courchevel or the leather that replaced it, epsom. You could ask for colour to be touched up but once the first layer of skin is gone ... it's gone.

Thanks so much, mistikat -- I appreciate it!

It depends on leathers and colors. Box can normally be refurbished better than texture leathers. If you can, try to buy a bag with the least scratches as Hermes can't guarantee to bring your bag back to new condition after a spa. Spa's cost these days is pretty high and it takes many weeks to get done.

I just took my Bolide Chamonix for a spa. It took 6 weeks to get it done and it looks better but not like dramatically better. Kwim?

Thank you so much for the information! I really do not want a bag with a lot of wear & tear. I'd rather pay more and get a bag in better condition than buy a bag that needs a lot of work.

This is exactly spot-on!

My 23-year old Ardennes Kelly came back from the spa where she needed a handle replacement and a nice once-over and while it took about 8-months it now looks like a brand new bag! WELL worth the time and money.

vs my Barenia trim which I sent for a spa and it came back looking like nothing had even been done!

This is so good to know, because I love Barenia, but haven't felt like I could use bags in that leather with my lifestyle, because it would get dirty rather than patina'd. Will scratch that leather off my list for the time being.

Forgive me if this is rude, but may I ask how much it cost to have the handle on your Kelly replaced? The handle on my Kelly is damaged and I'd like to have it replaced one day. When I enquired at my local Hermes boutique all the SA could tell me was that it's quite expensive and that it could take up to a year to get my bag back. I wasn't ready to part with my bag for that long so I bought a Twilly to cover the damage temporarily, but I will need to have it replaced at some point.

Hi there. I was quoted 790 Euro last year on my vintage box Kelly. I opted to not have that done as there were other repairs to pay for and used a twilly instead. Additionally, it took six months from when I surrendered my bag to when I got it back. Hope that helps.

I was quoted $500 for vintage BBK handle, though they actually recommended against replacing and had me fix something on the sides for the same price. So, maybe that meant replacing the whole thing would have been $1000???

Also, $250 for conditioning, and I believe $150 to replace the clochette. Resewing an inside pocket would have been $100 but I didn't think it was necessary as it was minor damage.
