I was reading the "How does one get a Birkin" thread and it is rather disheartening to know that it is near to impossible to get a Birkin in SG. What are the alternatives if one does not know of any regulars/VIP?? (which is the situation I am in...).

Besides the Lindy...I am keen on getting a Birkin Gold.

It is near to impossible.. but NOT impossible ;)
I was in your position about 1 1/2 years ago.. and now I am waiting for my SA's call....

SQ's promotion fare is now S$1,208 nett to Paris!! Having said that, I think there's still an element of luck whether you can find the exact bag you want there.

You know, sometimes when they start pulling stock out from the back, and you keep an open mind, you fall in love with things that were never in your sights in the first place, so you don't return empty-handed. Hermes does that to a person... even my DH, who was recently seduced by a Yohji bag! :p

That's what I'm (or I should say DH) is afraid of! :sweatdrop:

Actually, to give some perspective: I was offered a croc bag from our local boutique a month ago, but I had just come back from FSH, where the price was SGD13.5K less! The caveat is that prices had gone up locally, but not at FSH yet, and FSH did not have the colour I wanted, but even assuming that FSH increased prices by about 10%, the difference would still be about SGD10K. Now, SGD13.5K is just SGD1.5K short of what we paid in airfares on SIA to Paris – so you do the math!

The DH thinks it is fine to buy smaller items and leather bags from the local H, where the price differential is not huge, but he would rather we take a yearly holiday to Paris for the exotic items, and given my most recent experience, I would tend to agree.

yeah, tell me about it. the prices in KL are as ridiculous as it is in Singapore. I am in total agreement of buying an economy airfaire ticket to Paris and trying my luck at FSH... I mean the worst that could happen is that I don't end up with a birkin but a trip to Paris no less! And probably a bunch of other goodies that have not even hit the local market :p

oh my, that's a HUGE difference! Now I know the markup in SG boutiques...

 Honestly, if you were just after a Birkin, any Birkin, you would definitely score one if you visited FSH a few times. And if not, there are always Kellys and Lindys to tempt you. Or Kelly Pochettes, or Evelynes, or Picotins, or enamels, or... you see my point? :graucho:

I do agree with this opinion in general. FSH is a hit or miss.

But I prefer to get exotic items through our local stores here. It saves me a lot of headache in case anything happens to it. I just treat the extra $$ I pay as expenses for a Paris trip for 2 persons.
