@sparklehop,I’m pretty petite all around so I have trouble with the majority of the RTW but would like a nice statement blazer. Just tried on a bunch of Schiaparelli ones last week and drooling (but not at the prices haha)
I recall you posted concern about the lapel size and shape. Photos don’t always tell the right story re the scale of details and structure. I would recommend being guided by your SAs recommendation bc she knows your wardrobe and preferences. The way I ask the question of my SA is “Is this particular cut the best for me given that Hermes does countless black jackets”
And, I would try to figure out what you personally like about it for you . In other words, decide whether you want a long slim jacket like a Dior bar (arguably this is a cross between a tuxedo and Hermes answer to the Bar). Or a shorter cut that carves out the waist. Or a cut that is more over coat like (you mentioned a desire to layer) which would indicate perhaps a need for this type of coat below (from 2023, IMO a riff on Dior 30 Montaigne).

Honestly, if you are at all unsure, I would wait bc Hermes does a version of a classic jacket in either their RTW or equestrian lines every year.
Also, i would love to see action pics of the Schiaparelli and price and fit comparisons to the H jacket if you have any

NOTE: your pondering made me question whether I should pick up this jacket and have it tailored, bc I actually do love it. But, there was one other reason why I did not. IMO only, for my particular build (long, rectangular torso, shorter leg), I questioned whether the gorge or neckline was too low —too close— to my center waistline. I might still get it if my heart overrules my head, but that might be another factor to consider.
You mentioned that this would be one of your first classic black/ navy jackets. I would suggest, if you are uncomfortable wearing this style unless dressy, that a tuxedo style would make a great third or fourth jacket. IMO only.

ETA: for all of my caveats, I have also looked for a tuxedo jacket, peak lapel, and I believe Hermes makes one of the nicest on the market currently (and it’s relatively well priced). However, I’m also considering non H bespoke. YSL used to be the gold standard for le smoking jacket, and it cannot hurt to check that brand out this season
