I need some help cause I am interested in a leather jacket from current season.
I found the color beautiful . It is called blue aquatic ( blue with green hues) and the leather feels delicious.
It is obviously quite pricey 5200 euros ! So I am a bit hesitant. Do you think it is worth it ?
Is it a lifetime piece for those who own one ?
Also the sizing is a bit weird.
I cannot close it because of my Boops.. Oups.
but If I take the next size, the shoulders will be too large. I am ok cause I normally wear my jacket open but at this price , I am like it should be versatile at max.
Here is a pic. What do you think ? Thanks for your help.

I agree - it should be able to close for that price! I'm not sure if you can ask them to tailor the larger jacket so the shoulders fit?

I think the jacket is amazing and the color is TDF
however for that price it should close itself — jk- I think that it should fit perfectly and for me if I can’t close it I don’t think I’d purchase it. I often have the same problem where if it fits at shoulders it tight at bust but I don’t think I could pull the trigger if it didn’t fit me perfectly
Did you talk with my husband ? He said extactly the same: at this price it should close itself !haha
Thank you for your reply. I agree it should be perfect
It’s beautiful but if it doesn’t fit properly, it seems silly to purchase it. Can they do alterations on it to fix the fit issues?
Thank you for your reply. I will check if they can do something .

Thank you. It seems obvious it should close .
I was soo excited when I tried it on that I did not ask for possible alterations.
Thanksfully I decided to take time to think about it

The color of this jacket is beautiful. I love Hermes leather jackets/coats in particular
because they are timeless, however, I prefer the option of my jacket closing whether
I choose to wear it that way or not.
Since it is a significant investment take the time you need to think about it

First of all your look gorgeous in this color and your VCA pendant with it looks so darn lovely- perfection.
I have this exact jacket in a different color.
It’s the equestrian jacket and each season for the last few years they do it in different color-way.
I had the exact same situation as you- initially I bought it in one size larger in order to button it all the way, but after agonizing about it I exchanged down to my normal size- it was tight in the bust; but my reasoning was that leather stretches over time and I wanted a more fitted look so I could wear it to business meetings with a skirt. Length was also a consideration - how the overlook look was in each size.
No regrets for going with the more fitted look -
I still love mine (I bought mine in January 2020 right before everything shut down for covid)
I would suggest to try both sizes and then decide - are you looking for more tailored or more casual? Or for a suit jacket or weekend blazer?
The leather on these jackets is so thick and substantial - and the style is so timeless - it really is an investment purchase.
Maybe try on both with your husband and let him help decide? Always nice when our guys are part of the process

Looking again - I really like this length on you
The larger size will be a longer- a less trim look
Can you lift your arms ?
Can it button at all ? Or is it just tight across the chest when buttoned ?
And how is the sleeve length?
That’s important to me anyway - I like a long sleeve length - so how are you with the length ?
Probably comfort should be the #1
If the next size up is more comfortable and gives you more wear options that might make your decision easier

H Madison recently told me that Paris would need to approve even a simple alteration to shorten the sleeves on a reversible shearling jacket, (the strong implication from SA and head retail buyer was nope) so I cannot imagine them agreeing to modifying a larger size. (Chanel and dior absolutely would; Hermes, no)

i think you have to decide how much you love it (given you normally wear jackets open)
my DH would say pass bc he is a stickler for fit. DH loves to shop, so when I am with him, I kind of style the item as I put it on and tell him immediately — hey I adore this — to kind of preempt. Assuming I have to have it. Otherwise. I just ask for his opiinion lol. It might help to go back and try on again and take pics from different angles.

but, (and I hate to admit this) sometimes I try something on, fall in love, and the tailor corrects the fit, and I no longer like it as much.

and, sometimes, I buy something that doesn’t quite fit (like a jacket that doesn’t quite close) and I feel fat when I put it on, so it sits unworn

its really a personal decision and the intransigence of H regarding what they will and will not do re alterations does not help.

+1 with @TankerToad ; I think the jacket is lovely on you. But, a forever piece? IDK, only you can decide.

pls keep us updated! And fingers crossed for your perfect outcome

Paris will now alter leather to fit, alas I think this is because it is at FSH, with my RTW SA/ SM. For that price or even at €500, I want my jacket to close, keep me warm, look good and be comfortable, without too much alterations (it doesn’t have to make me coffee). I don’t ask for much right?
This is why I have not bought a leather jacket or coat from Hermes as yet, despite trying on many, many versions. It’s my stand and I have said this to all my Hermes RTW SAs. I don’t think you ought to fit the jacket. The jacket ought to be fitted to you. HTH!

As always excellent points - especially about not reaching for an item because it doesn’t fit or makes you feel unattractive
Your posts are always so well thought out ❤️

Yes - I know I’m not the norm here but I hate alterations - I love to put something on and feel like I can walk out the door with it on.
I do have many Hermes jackets and coats and wear them all - but have never altered. Pretty sure my Hermes doesn’t offer alterations, I’ve never asked.
Out beautiful member in the blue leather Hermes jacket has lots to think about. If this isn’t THE one, there will always be another treasure.
But one thing we all agree on is that she should not have to force it.

Two points
1. Although not as informed as everyone above, I would enquire as to the possibility of it being made to fit perfectly. Madison DID alter a skirt of mine with a leather waistband. So technically, they WILL work on leather- just ask. "No" can be an answer ( you may not LIKE the answer, but its still an answer, and lets you make a more informed decision).
2. IF a piece is altered perfectly for you, then it DOES fit as though it were made for you. I find that if that is the case ( as opposed to shortening my pants etc.) then you DO feel like a million $ in it, and will reach for it. You can count on H altering to custom, if they will do it at all.
But as all above say, you need to be happy. It's YOUR decision.

Hi @TankerToad - I think we shop at same store .. and I have had alterations there — not leather rtw but def coats — I’ve had sleeves shortened and for my mother they have shortened length and sleeves and even moved pockets up which came out great .. they even looked into a top/ dress sleeve alternation but seamstress evaluated sleeves and thought it would ruin the feel of the piece .. anyway just FYI — doesn’t sound like you need much altered anyway — lucky you !!

Thank you Tanker Toad for taking the time to give your input, particularly as you have the same jacket.
I am sure the next size is too large and I will not be ok with it I will see if the boutique propose alterations as suggested . But I also dont really like alterations because to me it always change something on the fitting. So I need to think about it.
If it was any other jacket that I love, I would just take it if I love it. So I dont know if wanting to close because it is quite pricey make sense. Hope it is clear.. I am looking for a casual jacket but one that I can dress up if needed.
In fact I was not looking for this particular jacket . The SA ( not my regular who was out ) propose me to try it on because the color would suits me.
I felt like a million bucks when I put it on, and the other pieces that I was interested in kind of lots interest..

I can lift my arms. But I cant button it at all.
The sleeve length is perfect to me.
It was love at first sight and I did not want to take it off... It is the most luxurious clothing piece I have ever try..But also the most pricey one, except a chanel metier d’art jacket that I did not buy...
I will go back and try it again. Will keep you posted
