In Italy you don't get refound for returns. Just store credit. So it's really rare that someone brings items back.

That said, I think that everybody have the right to change their mind and return something especially if it's such expensive items.

I see nothing bad in that if you just took it out of the box and modeled it in your house next to the box.

I have seen worst behavement in people trying bags in the shops than how I treat my beloved everyday bags.

:yes:I agree! I don't see anything wrong if you just take it out of the box and see how you look with the bag/your item in front of mirror, that's totally fine! That's allowed in the Hermes shops as well. Once you leave your house with it, NO item can be returned in my opinion. No only for 'returning policy' but also for if you want to sell it because you don't like it, then you can't describe as 'brand new' once you leave your home with it.

I seem to remember people posted somewhere very long time ago, 'if it's in returnable condition, then it's brand new condition(I clearly remember this since I was very shocked)'. I personally DO NOT believe so. Returnable condition or not, used once or twice, USED means USED, PERIOD!

As costa said, I have seen people treat bags badly at the store as well. I have seen a lady transfering all her stuffs into a new bag she was considering to buy, then struggled to close it....and finally she scratched the bag:wtf: at least 1-2 inches(it was box Kelly, the way she scratched it, it was DEFINETLY NOT a light/hair line scratch)!!!! All she said was 'oppsss!' That was it!..........And she did NOT buy it!:push:

I've bought a bag like this before. It had been sold (without the buyer seeing it IRL first), shipped, then returned after a few days. I had zero problem with it. In fact, I was thrilled that the first buyer returned it. I was dancing around the shop singing "mine now!"

When this thread came up, the first thing that popped into my head was the infamous Dim Sum Evelyne return. Like most of the posters here, that's the kind of thing that annoys and grosses me out. Careful people returning a bag that didn't work for them doesn't much blip my radar.

oh lordy. What a mess. This is why my store hates showing box bags to people out of the case when they suspect it's someone who's not really buying.

ME, TOO!!!:roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao:

If my memory is correct, she went to Chinese market and a couple of other places besides Dim Sum..

Okay, so for my own peace of mind, I'd love it if people give some definition of what they consider 'used'.

WHAT'S YOUR DEFINITION OF "USED"?

1. Bought it and walked out of the store with it (yes/no)

2. Bought it and modeled it in front of a mirror at home (yes/no)

3. Bought it and modeled it in front of a mirror took pictures of it and posted on tPF.(yes/no)

4. Put stuff in it to check if it fit (wallet, agenda etc) (yes/no)

5. Put stuff in it and took pictures of it and posted on tPF. (yes/no)

6. Took it out the front door to take pictures in the yard (yes/no)

7. Took it out the front door, with stuff in it to take shopping one time (yes/no)

8. Your pet sat next to it while you were doing a reveal. (yes/no)

9. You pet sat in it / you hung it around your pet's neck, but you never wore it (yes/no)

I couldn't agree more with the bolded sections. Used IS used...The words "brand new condition" should be banned!

There seem to be many, many people who believe it's ok to call a bag that has been carefully carried to a friends house, or the grocery store for an hour a new bag...

Sorry ladies..........your bag has been used...it's not brand new. And IMO, should not be returned.

I am getting a few PMs about this thread. I just want to make this absolutely clear, to have a healthy discussion is totally fine, and I applaud any such efforts. But, using a thread to try and "out" someone is totally unacceptable. I will simply post this as a reminder and ask everyone to respect each other while posting your respective opinions and refrain from any attempts of using this thread as a vehicle to try confront someone about actions you may disagree with.

Thank you.

Oh my! Now where do these young ones get all that money to spend on their shopping hobby?
Seriously - and "troubling" is a good word to desribe one's reaction too!

A colleague of mine recently had a student (a college freshman) who regularly attempted to excuse her absences from class by citing a shopping addiction. And I thought I had heard it all!

As for the rest of the discussion... personally, if something looks new to me, I don't mind about its provenance. I do think, however, that it's important not to return items that have been near pets or cigarette smoke-- even if they look new, they could kick off a bad reaction in people with allergies. I have a good friend who's quite allergic to dogs and has occasionally detected dog on "new" items of clothing-- and by "detected" I mean broken out in hives!

merika,

1 - 4 is ok for me. If I were a customer I would still buy a bag that has been returned in this way. I have put my stuff into bags in various stores just to try them out, with the permission of the SAs.

The same for no. 5, although I won't think much of the person.

6 - 9 is not ok to return in my book, although if the bag is in good condition the store and the next customer would never know. It's the yuck factor. I have cats myself but I wouldn't subject them onto others. I know it is a little irrational, but yuck I don't wanna think about it further lol!

3. Bought it and modeled it in front of a mirror took pictures of it and posted on tPF.(no)

4. Put stuff in it to check if it fit (wallet, agenda etc) (yes/no - that's harder *see example above about the box Kelly)

5. Put stuff in it and took pictures of it and posted on tPF. (yes/no - again, hard call)

6. Took it out the front door to take pictures in the yard (yes)

7. Took it out the front door, with stuff in it to take shopping one time (yes)

8. Your pet sat next to it while you were doing a reveal. (yes - I love my pets but if there was even a thought of returning, I wouldn't let small kids or pets anywhere near it)

9. You pet sat in it / you hung it around your pet's neck, but you never wore it (yes)

Oops I guess I spoke (and gave kudos) too soon.

WHAT'S YOUR DEFINITION OF "USED"? Please bear in mind that this is MY standard for what I'M comfortable purchasing, and I don't hold anyone else to my opinions.

1. Bought it and walked out of the store with it NO

2. Bought it and modeled it in front of a mirror at home NO

3. Bought it and modeled it in front of a mirror took pictures of it and posted on tPF. NO, but higher ick factor

4. Put stuff in it to check if it fit (wallet, agenda etc) NO

5. Put stuff in it and took pictures of it and posted on tPF. NO, but would pass on the bag if offered it after it were returned.

6. Took it out the front door to take pictures in the yard YES

7. Took it out the front door, with stuff in it to take shopping one time YES

8. Your pet sat next to it while you were doing a reveal. YES

9. You pet sat in it / you hung it around your pet's neck, but you never wore it YES

I'd add:

10. You smoked around it YES

For me, even with a YES beside the question, I would still happily buy the bag (if it came without scuffs, stains, scratches, or cookie crumbs) in all cases but 5 and 10, and possibly 3, unless the person in 3 was, say, MaiTai or another tPF style goddess.
