^^ CG, whenever I am not sure about a bag, I would ask my SA to hold it at the store for me whilst I consider. And I would go back to the store a couple more times, if I have to, and then decide. I like others to be considerate towards me and not make me feel like the bag I have in my hands is a reject or return, and I therefore I am. I think the next person who gets offered the bag, needs to feel super about it.

I am glad that I have a H store locally. In states without H stores, or where distance becomes an issue, I can see that my scenario wouldn't apply. But I still ask for shoppers to be considerate.

I am confused here totally. If someone buys a bag and tries it on at home and then determines that the bag is not for them, then that bag is a reject?

Many many people don't have the option to hold items at a Hermes store unless they know you because you shop there a lot. Therefore, what works for you and what works for other people may not be quite the same...this is why I say, walk in someone else's shoes before you state where it pinches...

You got it home and didn't open it? Not even to make sure you like it in different lighting?? I find that my mirror and the option to try out a bag with my shoes and some clothes helps me tremendously in making a selection.

Nope, I didn't. I was already unsure about it before I left the store. And I didn't want the H management to think poorly of me. I was a very new customer then. Although I have never been told this in my face, but I always have the sense that returns are frowned upon.

Sorry, that's not my style.

^^ I have made ONE return. It was a Cyclamen Epsom TPM Evelyne. It was too loud for me, but the SAs at the H store (not my regular) raved about how lovely it looked on me. At that time, I didn't know I could have the SA hold something for me until I decide. I brought it home. Didn't even open the box. Next day, went back to my regular store and told the SM what happened. I was then offered a Barenia for exchange. That, I used, and is one of my fun bags.

Barenia:drool:, MrsS, I am glad you got it!!!

Sammyjoe, while I have never returned a bag, I have returned a shawl and scarf or two.
I have some inkling of what suits me, but I sometimes make mistakes.
I for one am glad of H returns policy, and I live hours away from an H store, and it is very rarely I get the chance to visit one. Most of my purchases are made over the phone.
I think if you have treated the item carefully and with respect , and not taken it out of the house whilst in your possession, then why not return??
I am sure alot of the H items we buy straight from the store have already been handled by other customers, some of them probably would not have given them the consideration we have.

I find it funny that in 17 pages of discussion only 1 person has said that they have returned a bag. Funny that.........

That 1 person was myself, for the reasons I briefly explained. Apart from the fact, it is a legal right in the UK to return anything within reason. I feel that as long as you are respectful, there is no harm done.

I had a little look through past threads and actually a very very very large number of members have returned items, bags, shoes, scarves, shawls etc. Every store is different and different policies apply.

As for the dim sum, I found that thread and it made very interesting reading........

^^ Even if they do, it is a customer's hard earned money and the return (exchange policy really) is in place to make sure that the customer is happy with their purchase.

After all, we purchase things for ourselves, not to please the Hermes people.

Dear Raz: You could not have said it better.

No, that's a "return". A "reject" to me, is when a bag of a certain specification was spoken for, and when the customer on the top of the list passed on it. I am accustomed to bags reserved for me, and me alone. I don't take rejects. And for the respect of other customers, when I am not sure about a certain bag, I won't even have the SA rip off the shrink wrap to show me the bag, so I can model it in the store. Very recently, I was offered a bag. It was something I casually spoke to my lovely SA about, and she put my name on it. When it arrived, I had become uncertain. She was eager to show it to me. I respectfully asked her not to. So that the next person whom the bag would be offered to, would be elated that it's still shrinkwrapped, and would know nothing about it being originally offered to someone else. And for that reason, that why I won't even mention the specs here. The person who eventually bought the bag may be a member here, and would be so offended knowing she didn't have first dibs.

I was stating my post very generally. You've taken it very personally. That's a shame.

^ wow, that is very nice of you and I suspect you have an impeccable collection and that you are an established customer at Hermes.

So you won't accept a bag if you didn't specifically order it?

My two cents.

I honestly don't expect that an item which I have purchased has been untouched or handled. If care is used, then I am fine. I always inspect before I purchase something anyway, especially after working in retail. You think customers can be clumsy, so can SAs! You don't even want to know! LOL!

In fact, I think I am more bothered by someone selling a used bag for MORE than retail than Hermes' return policy. But to each his own!

Oh, and I too have returned a bag before (not Hermes- but only because I haven't had the pleasure of purchasing directly from the store yet). It was a charge send and as soon as I received it and tried it on- I realized it was gigantic and not suited for me at all. Thankfully, my fashion mistake was quickly remedied because I returned it promptly for a credit.

Sammyjoe, that's all the Barenia I can handle! LOL! I like to experience different leathers and was glad I could get to own a bit of it. I can never own a Barenia Birkin or HAC. I would totally destroy it. That little TPM, already had a strand of fried noodle drop on it. And that left a permanent oil stain.

Thanks Raz, you said it better than I have said.

I have a problem, sometimes I cannot keep my mouth shut!!:sweatdrop: I could have just read and said nothing, but I was just being honest.

Oh no, its left a stain!!:push: In least you have a lovely piece of barenia:drool: MrsS. I have one barenia birkin that I totally baby!!:sweatdrop:

LOL! The answer is yes. Only because I already want too many and so I hardly buy outside of my "want" list. And I do declare my desire for certain combos before podium. And so yes, the box would only have my name on it. My SA has gotten used to not offering me bags that I had not expressed interest in.
