Hermes Refund Policy

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate

On the back of the Hermes (US receipt) the return policy is as follows:

Hermes will only exchange or offer a merchandise credit within 30 days of the
date of sale. All returns must be accompanied by an original Hermes sales or gift
receipt & must be in its original condition & packaging. We are not able to accept
any merchandise for return or exchange if damaged, altered or sold as a "final sale" item.

I don't know what the policy for exchange is in Europe, but perhaps return the
items & ask for a merchandise credit & look for another item more to your liking.
14 days doesn't seem appropriate especially if your local H store doesn't have a big inventory.

Just check to see if that merchandise credit is valid for a year or more.

Sorry that you don't like the bolide.. it's a great looking bag

Hm... My local store (I'm in Europe) told me the policy is that they happily exchange anything without receipt, no actual time limit (as you couldn't tell without receipt) but refund only with receipt and as I remember within 30 days.

Not for nothing but, I do see why they won't do returns if it was bought from a different country. I don't agree with it, but I do see how they might see it that way. I think it's more of a currency exchange issue. I don't know. I'm sorry to hear about your frustration. :(

When my DH was getting my Kelly last week, he asked the SA on the phone before heading to the store if it would be possible to return the bag were I not to like it when he got it home. Her answer was..."we do not really do returns, so no".

H boutiques do NOT give refunds.

I don't know UK law but in the US, store credit is not legally allowed to expire, so you'd have that H credit forever. However prior to that being law, US Hermès gave a full year for redeeming credit. I find it really surprising that the UK wouldn't give that...are you sure they didn't mean "exchange in 14 days, or get store credit for a year"? Which isn't so bad, unless there is nothing at all at Hermès that you like?

In France, the store credit( which we call "avoir") is expiring in 1 year as well, though it seems not logical, it happens.

UK definitely refunds all items except earrings and swimwear with a receipt and within the time period stated on reverse of receipt , probably 30days . So long as a card payment was made rather than actual cash.
Harrods and Selfridges items have to be returned to the store , and H boutique to any UK H boutique.

I would continue to demand at least a credit return from Marbella , what they are saying is not in line with European company policy , assuming it was bought at an Hermès boutique and has all the paperwork.

I returned a scarf to the H boutique in Harrods on Saturday, it was within the 14 day return period which is standard in Harrods and it was refunded back to my credit card. However, when I bought the scarf the SA did say in addition to the 14 day refund policy, under Hermes policy there was a further 2 months exchange policy - this wasn't on the receipt just something I was told.

In terms of customer service, I can't understand why they wouldn't issue a store/company credit - it's not as if your returned bag is going to sit on the shelf for long before it's snapped up! Good luck!

Hi Ladies

I am in a state of shock. My DH bought me a Bolide Bag and a Clic H bracelet as a surprise from his travels in Marbella last week. Unfortunately I don't like either and have made enquiries regarding a refund on the bag and an exchange on the bracelet for a different colour. I spoke with my local store but as they were bought overseas and they will only do an exchange on both of the items and this must be within 14 days of purchase.

I then spoke with the Marbella store and they say that they also will exchange the 2 items but do not give refunds in any case.

OMG - I'm shocked - A 5,200 Euro bag that I can't get refund on, surely this isn't fair.

Have any of you lovely ladies had the same experience too? !!

I've purchased plenty of items overseas. Upon return to California, my SAs will accept the items only for store credit (within like 14 days). So yeah, bummer that you can't get a refund. HOWEVER, with the euro being so weak, you come out on top because they give you store credit for the item's price in USD.

You can also do an exchange if they have the same item (in a different size or CW). The only caveat is that you pay sales tax based on the US price.

Good Morning Everyone
Thank you so much for your advice & experiences.
Just to clarify, I believe I can exchange my goods or accept a credit note if I take them to my local UK store, but I can't have a refund.:rant:
What surprised me was that my friends who have a place in Marbella, could return them on my behalf within the 14 days, I would not be entitled to a refund. A very expensive lesson to be learnt!
I know my lovely DH would be happy if I kept it and used it but surely you need to love it, especially when it cost so much.

So, what now ladies? Would love more advice here:help:

Excuse my ignorance, but out of my depth here - what prices do Kelly's & Birkin's start at? Might be worth using it as a deposit? :graucho:

It seems such a waste to spend £5,200 (it was £ not Euro's) on a several pieces of jewellery; I really only the love the Clic H/Clic Clac bracelets but there's a limit ..... :panic::panic:

Hi Whispercrest,

I bought a B30 Togo leather in London only a few months ago, it was £6170. Not sure about K but I think in Togo they are slightly less expensive than a B30, but will depend on size etc.

I'm sure if you explain your predicament a main store would be happy to let you know when a B or K arrives, even if you have to wait a few months.

Best of luck!
