I actively buy from both, as their stock is rather different at any given time. I prefer trying on scarves at Wall Street, however, because the lighting is much better and the SA I work with is a genius at color. I can't get that same eye at Madison. I tend to get things from Madison only when something I want arrives there first (there are times when patience is not my strength), particularly as my SA isn't a scarf expert.

I know Madison has more stock, but I would trek down to Wall Street without hesitation since I know the scarf I'll find will be the better choice.

This is so interesting. I defer to Arabesques' greater expertise but just to offer a different view: Some of this depends on your tolerance for crowds (on the one hand) and for a long subway or cab ride down to Wall Street (on the other). I always shop at the Madison store because I live near there and I have a great SA there, and I don't really find it that crowded; I generally go in and wait until she frees up, and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. I am actually very impatient and never shop at department stores, but the busyness level of Madison doesn't faze me because the salespeople are so good and the crowds tend to be well-behaved -- and I can always spend the waiting time looking at pretty things. I think having the greater range of merchandise is a big plus. (Plus, Wall Street would be a 45-minute trek each way, so I'd lose all that time if I went down there.) Just a different perspective. At some point I'll have to make a pilgrimage to the WS store just to check it out!

On the lighting - again, depends on your tolerance. I agree that the light at Madison is pretty bad, but I have a really good sense of what colors suit me (and my SA at Madison is great with color) so it hasn't been a problem in terms of selecting scarves.

Thank you both very much, such helpful information. I'll be staying at the NoMad at Broadway and 28th, do I think either one is fair game commuting-wise, no? I'll be going for scarves and fragrance primarily. And didn't get the scarf in question on H.com because I really need to see them on me first, so the better lighting is very tempting. I'd go to both, but not sure I want to drag hubby to two. I think I'll check out what else is down by the Wall Street store as far as shopping. Madison we know well and had a day planned. WS could be a fun change!

I am also a longtime shopper at both boutiques, for me it depends on where DS1's schedule takes us (there are a few audition studios downtown). I think that if you want a more personal experience and you are mostly looking for scarves, WS is great. It is MUCH smaller than Madison. I have never felt pressured or rushed or anything, and in fact if we are extra early for an appointment and have too much extra time they have encouraged us to just sit there and hang out!

That said, there is nothing like Madison. It is my favorite boutique (I was actually underwhelmed by FSH). The stock is great and there is so much to see. If you need to request an SA, Linda is wonderful. Depending upon the time of day you may have to wait, but not usually on the main floor (leather goods downstairs seems to have less SAs). Believe me, if you're standing there looking at all the scarves, as soon someone is available they will ask if you need assistance. I tend to think its hit or miss on the busy factor, I am there are various times of the day and really never have to wait.

I am a big Constance wallet fan, but it is a very large wallet. I have started carrying clutches instead of bags during the day and I love the Constance wallet as a clutch. Because of its size it can hold a lot, but I personally would not use it just as a wallet.

Constance wallets are hard to come by. I have been told that at a lot of boutiques they are held to go to their good customers. It is possible to score them at both Madison and Wall Street (I have gotten one at both Madison and Wall Street), but they fly out of the store. If you only have time to go to one of the boutiques I would try Madison.

And I don't know if they make Constance wallets in chèvre-- I've not seen one. Any one else ever seen one?

I did see some Kelly wallets in Madison last week but none at Wall Street.

Thank you sbelle! I think I've seen a chèvre 1Q Constance wallet from a reseller, but since Constance wallets are already hard to come by, I wouldn't have high hopes in finding one myself. I will try my luck nevertheless.:p

Oh, also FYI, Manhasset is seriously expanding....they bought the space next door and the boutique will be three times the size (can't wait for the party!). Due to open in November, so eventually it may be worth the trip. The SAs are wonderful, some have been there forever, some are new but EVERYONE is very friendly. Good stock on scarves and bracelets, nice variety of bags, the temporary space is small but it's behind the new space so they can access the regular stockrooms.

Very good idea—and argcdg's advice is great. There's Century 21 down there, which can be very interesting to look through, and a new French-focused market is down there now, too.

Thank you BBC and thanks again Arabesques. I will consider all of this. It'll be my first Hermes boutique visit (other than FSH as a girl, but I wasn't shopping then!). Up to know it's been H.com and resale. So Madison would be special of course, but I need to be able to tell for sure if red Tyger looks ghastly or not!

Do check the hours before you head downtown - I believe the Wall Street Boutique is closed on Saturdays.

Was visiting New York this week and stopped by the Madison boutique. I didn't get anything since I am off to Europe next month but LINDA was lovely she brought out a few Halzans and a two Jyspiere's in colors I wanted to see. Lovely SA, if I ever need to get anything from the Madison store I will definitely look for her.

You're right about them both being similar commuting-wise from your hotel. Century 21 is nearby and there's also the Brookfield Place shopping center close by with some good shops (there's supposedly a new H location going in there soon but it's still listed as "coming soon" on the Brookfield website).

Side note: the restaurant in your hotel is AWESOME. My husband and I are regulars there. I highly recommend checking it out. They also have amazing cocktails.

Oh thank you Monceau! I will ensure I look because I only have shopping time Friday late morning/afternoon and Saturday morning/early afternoon!

I frequent Wall St and that is my store! I love Wall St. It's quite n charming. It does get busy during day time because tourists comes in n buy stuff as well but you will still receive excellent service!

The store only opens Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm. On Thursday it will close at 7pm. Not open on Saturday or Sunday.

Yes! Thank you bed head! Our dear AnnaE mentioned it to us! DH has his heart set on Per Se, but if we can't get in, I've already been in touch with Concierge and we're in at NoMad. AnnaE mentioned the roast chicken as being particularly divine.

We could just do a lower Manhattan day. SOHO, etc. lunch in Chinatown. We almost never do that. It's always mid-town and Chelsea.

DH could go to 9/11 Memorial while I'm at H. He's ready. I am just not yet. But I'm feeling closer to it.

Thanks hedgwin99. That only leaves Friday afternoon for me then. Do you think it would be too crazy then? What I actually like about this is I could then hit Madison Saturday morning if need be.

I was in the Madison store this morning before noon.. To my surprise it was not
busy & was able to select several scarves. The SA was really patient & the editing
was better than expected..

BG also had a nice selection of scarves.. They must have gotten their delivery
for fall...

If your having lunch in Chinatown, go to Peking Duck House. The best!
For dinner, our favorite is still Four Seasons at 99 E 52nd. [emoji177] lots of H to be seen there!
