Does anyone know what the stock is like for wallets in Madison and WS stores? I'm thinking about replacing my old wallet with a kelly or constance long wallet in chèvre leather. Has anyone seen any lately?

TIA!

I am a big Constance wallet fan, but it is a very large wallet. I have started carrying clutches instead of bags during the day and I love the Constance wallet as a clutch. Because of its size it can hold a lot, but I personally would not use it just as a wallet.

Constance wallets are hard to come by. I have been told that at a lot of boutiques they are held to go to their good customers. It is possible to score them at both Madison and Wall Street (I have gotten one at both Madison and Wall Street), but they fly out of the store. If you only have time to go to one of the boutiques I would try Madison.

And I don't know if they make Constance wallets in chèvre-- I've not seen one. Any one else ever seen one?

I did see some Kelly wallets in Madison last week but none at Wall Street.

Good morning all!

Curious which of the two boutiques is best for scarves? Wall St. or Madison Ave? Or are they about equal?

Thanks!

In terms of quantity, Madison has more scarves than Wall Street.-- the cases are much larger. I think the inventory turns over very quickly at Madison-- there is almost always someone at the counter buying a scarf.

When I am looking for scarves I do go to Madison, but it is a very different experience than shopping at Wall Street!

Thank you sbelle.

How so? just more energy/crowds?

Wall Street doesn't get the same traffic so I find it a much quieter, more serene shopping experience. And in all the times I've been there I've never had to compete with other shoppers for space at the scarf counter.

Depending on the time of day you go Madison can be crazy busy. So it never feels serene to me! In my experience if you go first thing in the morning the scarf counter isn't bad-- later in the day it gets busy.

Thank you! This jives perfectly with advice I've been getting privately from other tpf'ers regarding the best time to go. I think I'll definitely plan on a soon after opening visit. I'm very grateful to you.

The last time I was at the Madison Ave store the scarf counter was NUTS! It was the middle of the day on a Tuesday. Total chaos. I'd definitely go just after they open as mornings there seem to be a bit more relaxed.

I actively buy from both, as their stock is rather different at any given time. I prefer trying on scarves at Wall Street, however, because the lighting is much better and the SA I work with is a genius at color. I can't get that same eye at Madison. I tend to get things from Madison only when something I want arrives there first (there are times when patience is not my strength), particularly as my SA isn't a scarf expert.

I know Madison has more stock, but I would trek down to Wall Street without hesitation since I know the scarf I'll find will be the better choice.

This is so interesting. I defer to Arabesques' greater expertise but just to offer a different view: Some of this depends on your tolerance for crowds (on the one hand) and for a long subway or cab ride down to Wall Street (on the other). I always shop at the Madison store because I live near there and I have a great SA there, and I don't really find it that crowded; I generally go in and wait until she frees up, and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. I am actually very impatient and never shop at department stores, but the busyness level of Madison doesn't faze me because the salespeople are so good and the crowds tend to be well-behaved -- and I can always spend the waiting time looking at pretty things. I think having the greater range of merchandise is a big plus. (Plus, Wall Street would be a 45-minute trek each way, so I'd lose all that time if I went down there.) Just a different perspective. At some point I'll have to make a pilgrimage to the WS store just to check it out!

On the lighting - again, depends on your tolerance. I agree that the light at Madison is pretty bad, but I have a really good sense of what colors suit me (and my SA at Madison is great with color) so it hasn't been a problem in terms of selecting scarves.

Oh and PS - The crowds at Madison do not even remotely approach the crowds at, say, FSH -- which I found totally unbearable and will never subject myself to again. Especially on a weekday, Madison is absolutely sedate by comparison to FSH. More similar to Bond St. in London.
