I am new to Hermes and would like to get an 18 or 22 Picotin. How should I go about it, I live in the NYC area and I would rather purchase a new one from the boutique. Thanks,
Hello and welcome,

Are you interested in the other métiers of Hermès like RTW, shoes, home ware, scarfs, jewelry etc etc

If you could see yourself spend the equivalent of the price of the bag in other departments and these bringing you immense joy, then just go to a boutique and start spending…

If you just want a picotin and that’s it… going the resale market is the cheapest and more effective way to go …

Hope this helps

To follow up on the previous answer, if you don't want to go through a reseller there is also the method of constantly stalking the Hermes website, as the picotin does occasionally drop online, but you have to be dedicated to checking constantly and click fast 🏃‍♀️

Just go to Madison and ask on the fourth floor. The person with the iPad will add you to the list. Have a couple colors you want in mind. I’ve gotten a rodeo charm, a rose Sakura Picotin 18, and a gold/gold mini evelyne on separate occasions with no pre spend at Madison and they’re not even my home store. You don’t get anything you don’t ask for. Try to pop in earlier on a weekday for a less busy visit, but I’ve been successful on midday weekends too.

Hoping to get thoughts after my first time shopping at Madison! I've previously purchased some Picotins and a Roulis online and a Picotin in a different boutique, have bought other H items here and there across a couple of different stores, and have purchased my quota bags on the resale market. In other words, I've been a relatively consistent H customer in recent years, but I have never tried to get into the game seriously.

I was recently visiting NY and met the sweetest SA at Madison Ave while trying on watches. I decided to buy one (about 4k) and my husband bought a belt, so we spent about 5k in total. Before I made the final decision to purchase the watch, she asked if there was anything else I was interested in - I knew a Birkin was SO unlikely, but I figured I'd shoot my shot and ask. As expected, she said no, but asked me if there were any other bags I wanted and proceeded to list off virtually all the non-QBs (I nicely declined). Then she pulled up her phone and entered my preferences for a quota bag and went through the wishlist form with me, which no SA has ever done for me before. We then kept chatting for a bit, and I decided to go ahead and have her order the watch for me.

I took it as a good sign that she seemed to be giving me my pick of non-QBs and that she offered to start a wishlist, and I did feel like my husband and I really hit it off with her. I'd like to keep shopping with her virtually between visits to NY, and am happy to travel there for a quota bag. I guess my question is, is this as encouraging of a start as it feels like to me, or does this sound pretty typical and like I could just be strung along?

I realize that none of us have a crystal ball, but would love thoughts from those who shop at Madison! Thanks!

Edit just to clarify about the watch shopping experience! The watch variation I wanted wasn't in stock, so I was deciding if I wanted her to order it for me and ship it to my home, or hold off. We kept chatting after she took my bag specs (my husband is a big watch enthusiast, as we she, so they had tons to talk about and she seemed to love showing him all the configurations), I asked to purchase the watch and have her order it, she brought us out champagne and chocolates, and then kept showing us around the store a little bit. I left feeling like it was a really lovely experience!

It's hard to tell from what you've said but the way you've written it makes it sound like the watch purchase was up in the air and she only took your bag details to secure the sale. That would make me feel sour on the experience personally. Is Madison a close store to you? If it is and you can get there often, it sounds like a relationship to at least pursue for a while to see if it goes anywhere assuming there are other Hermes items you are interested in anyway. If you are instead just talking yourself into joining "the game" and buying things you dont necessary want because you think you've struck gold with an SA and a bag will be quick, I caution you to really consider if you want to get into it when a bag offer is likely going to need several visits and 20k+ spend depending on the bag you are asking for. If there is a closer store to you that you would visit more often, I'd also consider that store instead.

This is a helpful perspective, thanks! I hadn't considered that she may have just been taking the bag details to secure a sale. I did feel like I was getting very genuine vibes from her, but of course, she's a salesperson, so it's possible that she was just really good at her job and is skilled at making people feel liked.

I've always been open to getting into the game, but I don't live near a store and haven't previously found an SA that I really felt like I clicked well with. NY is a quick flight and my husband and I would like to visit a handful of times per year regardless. Working with her was definitely my most pleasant and effortless feeling experience, and I know that I do want additional H bags in the future, so that's what got me thinking that starting "the game" with her could be a good move.
