Hi everyone,
I thought I would share here my recent experience getting a Birkin in New York as this thread has been very helpful for me to gather information before my purchase.

I made an appointment online for Bags and Leather Goods at the Meatpacking store, went there, and the sales assistant took note of my wish (Birkin 35 in togo, and I gave him all the colors I was interested in). I tried the 30 that was on display in the store and asked if I could at least try on the 35, but he said they didn't have any. He confirmed he would let me know when a 35 comes in so I can at least come try it on — he explained that there were a few other clients waiting for a 35 at the moment.

I then decided to go to the store on Wall Street to see if their process would be any different. The sales assistant didn't even ask to take my wish and told me I couldn't try anything on display (?). She told me immediately "You can't just walk in and buy one; it's years of waiting."

I walked out and decided to try Madison, just out of curiosity—I knew they would never sell me one right off the bat, especially because I have no buying history in the US. I have bought a few things in the past in Europe, but for not more than $1,000 total.

I arrived at Madison, which wasn't crowded at all for a Saturday afternoon. On the Bags and Leather goods floor, I asked to have a sales assistant help me whenever possible. I waited for around 20 minutes before my designated sales assistant came to me. I explained to him that I was coming from an appointment at the Meatpacking location and that they didn't have a 35 to try on. I then asked if they had any I could try. He immediately asked me, "I have one in Étoupe, but is it just try it on?" I started mumbling a bit because I had no idea what I should answer to put all chances on my side! So he asked again, "If I have it, will you buy it?" So I immediately answered YES. He went to the back for around 20 minutes, then came back saying, "We'll have it brought to you shortly" and disappeared again. I waited at least 10 more minutes before he came back with a massive box, and took me to a private room, closing the door. There in the box, he unboxed my dream Birkin 35, in Étoupe, togo leather and with gold hardware. Apparently, in addition to one in black, these were the only two models they had in both 30 and 35 in the store. I obviously told him right away that I would take it, and I left the store with my new Birkin.

I had imagined all scenarios, but never would I have thought of this one—I got so lucky that they offered it to me, and if I had to choose the perfect color, leather and hardware, that's exactly the one I would have chosen. I still can't believe it!! All this to say that it still happens!

I am making a trip to NYC this weekend. Will definitely check out the Madison location. I am on the lookout for a croc calvi! Has anyone seen any available at the Madison location?
I called them earlier last week to inquire and they said someone will call me back to schedule an appointment, but no one has…

Madison is about to get swamped with walk-ins

Congrats on your new bag!

How is everyone getting offer for Quota this years in Madison ? What is the likely spent for k25 hold on gold you would say ?

Also for sale I asked SA but was told invite comes from corporate , is it true ?

Thank you in advance

People have been getting offers from Madison this year. I got and rejected two QB25 offers:25K, padded, Gris Meyer (looked too light in color IRL) and a 25 B quadrille(I have a 28K quadrille). I don’t have a wish list, so my SA just makes offers if he thinks there is something I might like. Here is an interesting post by a new member (scroll down to #2145) that discusses the different experiences between, say Madison and MP https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/hermes-new-york-city-stores.666239/page-143. You can also check the offers thread: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/share-your-2023-bag-offers.1057915/page-186

The prespend for K25 Gold with GHW seems to vary. I got a 25B gold, phw (my preference) in the summer QB drought of 2022. I ’qualified’ for it much earlier, but by the time it came in, I was at 5X. @Tykhe reported something similar at that time, when bags were scarce. Since then, in the US, I believe there have been reports of 2-3X, but most seem to think 4-5X, to be safe, at a competitive maison or flagship. My spend is maintained at 5X plus per accepted offer on average, even though I received my bag offers relatively close together). i am not considered VIP at Madison, but I have a nice relationship with my SA, which I define as (in addition to offers) he is able to present me with non leather items I love enough to buy even without the bags. Due to the high spend of VIPs, I don’t advise anyone to go the boutique route unless you really love non leather boutique merchandise on its own merits. You can check the prespend thread, here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/spend-threshold-for-b-k-c.1032182/page-75

as per sale, I was told last year that the invites are confirmed and come from corporate, but certainly your SA can nominate his top clients. In general, i assume my SA tells the truth, and this has worked for me. :) You can check the sale thread, here: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/any-info-hermes-private-sale-oct-2023-manhattan-nyc.1064248/. Totally agree with @880 above. My SA also confirmed that invites to the private sale are done by corporate and they have “no visibility” into who is invited. I also don’t know what the criteria are to get an invitation. However, after we asked and received his reply, less than an hour later, an invitation landed in our inbox. ;)

@Lux Addicts I think if you are set on a particular bag, especially a coveted size or color, it could be a long wait at Madison, irrespective of prespend. If they don’t have that bag available, it doesn’t really matter how much you spend. You will be on a waiting list and who knows how long that will take. If you are open to colors or even sizes, you may get a bag faster. If you are interested in only a K25 gold on gold, you could get those exact specs from a reputable reseller for less than 3x, which is likely the minimum prespend amount. Like what @880 was saying, by the time the bag is available, you could be at 5x, or 6, 7, 8x.

A Kelly 25 seems pretty competitive at the current time especially in sellier. I have been offered a k25 retourne sun recently but I turned it down because it wasn’t on my wishlist. I think I stopped keeping track of spend after 5x ( all in fine jewelry and rtw)

Tbh my sa recently asked me to update my wishlist and I was very broad in terms of what I would accept as long as it was a k25 sellier. It has been a year since my last accepted offer.
