I posted this as a cautionary tale for those of you who have relationships with SAs in Madison of this scratch a Birkin, Buy a Birkin rumor that is being bandied about regarding the Madison store in particular on an international Facebook Hermes fan page. It has created quite a stir and 99% of the posters were disgusted with the OP for even suggesting intentionally scratching a display bag with the intention of buying it at a reduced price. People are ridiculously desperate out there for any bag. It is actually laughable, if it were not so pathetic.

I just find the desperation soooo weird and exhausting! Laughable indeed!

Unless I am mistaken, Hermes will not sell any goods ( leather, RTW, porcelain etc.) that are damaged in any way. That is why the SA does the visual inspection WITH you at the time of sale. It is also implied that you have inspected the item prior to payment. If any damage is noted, the item is taken off the floor, placed in the back, and sent back to Paris as damaged. I have had my SA show me an item, note an imperfection/damage and refuse to sell it to me (offering to source another).
The concept of "luxury shopping and goods" is not consistent with selling damaged goods at a discount.
And I'd love to see what happens to that person after they "accidentally" damage something.
This is 100% correct outside Paris. There is a piece of furniture I have been trying to order for years, and when one finally came in, it had a tiny fault in its structure and could not be sold.
I have been offered a damaged piece in Paris at a discount, but not functionally damaged (and not a bag, a home piece) - not germane to this thread.

+1 to this! I have had items I ordered not sold to me after damage was observed, and my SA refused to sell it to me despite me being ok with it. It was sent back to Paris as a damaged good.

At the NY sample sale, I was looking for a second jacket for DH bc the one he picked did not have a price tag in the usual location. The second one had a price tag, but the jacket’s drawstring was damaged. When I took it to the front of the store, the Cashiers made a note of the damage, and it was my understanding that it would not be returned to the floor.

Hi all,
I am new and lurked around here a little before getting the courage for my first post. I am based in NYC and only discovered the wonders of Hermes recently. Is weekdays afternoons after 4pm a good time to visit the Madison store or is it too close to closing? I am looking to start a customer profile and looking to get some scarves rings and leather bracelets.
And how hard is it to get a lindy 26 PHW in pink/grey/red nowdays? Will there be a 'waitlist' or is it a bag that is often offered if available?
TIA, sorry for the many questions.

Doesn’t seem like a bad time to me. Weekdays are always better.
Lindys bigger than mini aren’t currently in crazy demand, so, always worth asking. Good luck!

I'm so happy to finally make it back to NYC after 6 long years, due to COVID and other unexpected life events. I couldn't wait to visit the new Madison location, and I was not disappointed. It is everything I imagined it would be and more.

Even my toddler had fun :giggle:, the rooftop garden was her favorite part, and she was given a coloring book as we left the store
(Maybe if I plaster my face hard enough onto the glass they'll sell me something )
