Does anyone know if you have to set an appointment in advance at Madison or can you walk in? I clearly do not need anything specific since I have my relationship established at my home store but still would love to just "browse"..

You can walk in but I’d advise on getting an appt so you have set time with an sa versus having to wait for someone to be available and getting rushed

Thank you! I am super loyal to my home store so I wasn't planning on shopping. I walked in today and all of the staff were so sweet and gracious. You guys are lucky to have such a crew! :) They were really helpful even with the disclaimer that I preferred to shop from my home store and was just wanting to visit, browse and soak in the NYC experience. :)

I plan to go into the Madison location and try on/buy shoes for myself and my mother when she visits me in a few weeks. I've never been into an Hermes store before though... Are they friendly/helpful to new clients/buyers?

I’m a Madison customer, but the shoe department is much more comfy at meatpacking JMO

while I have a good relationship with my H SA, I’m the odd one on this thread that thinks in general chanel 57 is much more friendly (from what I observe) to new customers. I think the SAs at H are polite, but not warm until they know you. Dior fifth Avenue flagship and brunello cuchinelli Madison flagship are very friendly, if your mother is inclined in those directions.

IMO most Hermes SA are not friendly or approachable at all, they seem to think they have the upper hand and the brand is always in high demand so more clients will buy their goods even if the customer service is below par. That’s Hermes, many clients suck it up hoping to be offered a bag. If you’re lucky you’ll come across a nice SA at the store. With Hermes it’s all about relationship, but I do think it goes both ways.

Nowadays I prefer to shop online so I don’t have to deal with unpleasant/snobbish SA. Let’s just say that if you shop different brands you will be treated in a much nicer way than H.

Best of luck :)

Thank you both! I'll be mentally prepared when I go in the case I get a non-approachable vibe. If anything, we can just make sure we know our shoe sizes so I can order online in the future

I was leaning towards the Madison location because there's other stores around there I want to stop by like you mentioned 880, but if I'm able to go to the meatpacking location, I will. Thanks for the tip!

I just reread your first post re you’ve never been to an H store before. Although I no longer shop there (my SA left) , I started out as a customer in H Wall Street which I think is still probably the most laid back and friendly. H Madison has the most stock, the biggest home selection, and my neighborhood store, so when I resumed H shopping, Madison just made sense. But the Madison shoe area is all the way in the airless top of the building. It’s the worst. Long ago the building used to be the Limited Flagship and I swear they stuck the sale merchandise that no one wanted there.

For other brands, I would say that there is considerably less merchandise in Meatpacking for (Dior, Hermes, Brunello, etc., but the physicsl stores downtown are more charming venues. Happy shopping, and pls keep us posted on your experience! :)

So glad you had such a great experience! There’s definitely been new SA’s added who create a great shopping experience for all!
