Hermes leathers for rainy climates.

Le Pliage sounds like a great idea. Does anyone know if putting a lighter colored leather inside a dark colored Le Pliage would cause dye transfer to the leather purse, whether raining or not? I know Le Pliage is waterproof but dye transfer sometimes happens without any water present

LatestObsession, good question. My DDs have the black Le Pliage and have never had dye transfers, but they are not carrying a B/K in them. Any opinions here?

I live close to Manchester UK so I get rained on all the time. My Vache Ligee bag needs no special protection - the rain just runs off but I did check before I ordered it that it would be suitable for the local climate - I would never in a million years be so prissy as to hide my handbag in another bag because of the weather - although I would use the Longchamp to get it through airport security undamaged!

I also have an old-style Herbag in bridle leather and canvas. The canvas is very rain resistant but the bridle leather does spot if it gets caught in the rain. Leave it to dry naturally in a corner though and it all disappears and looks normal again.

I have a stash of rain coats all in numbered H envelopes, one through five, with the size purse each one is used for written on the envelope, all in a drawer by the door. I make sure I always have one in my bag when I leave the house. They take up practically no space and they refold easily should you have to use it. I hesitated for a log time to use them as well but my SA told me they were easy to refold and she was right. I've been caught in the rain unexpectedly so many times that I don't dare leave the house without one.
i always carry my kelly's raincoat but have yet to use it. good to know it is easy to refold. my bag is good in the rain but i have been tempted to cover it in a restaurant where i see ever present danger.

LOL I almost always cover my bags in restaurants. Usually asking the waiter for an extra napkin which goes then goes on top of the bag.

annie9999, where did you purchase your Kelly raincoat?
TIA!

They come with your kelly or birkin when you buy them new. If you buy pre-owned they likely won't still be with the bag. I've gotten some listed on e-bay and by other resellers. They don't charge much, just keep an eye out and you'll find them. Just be sure you're buying the one that's the right size for your bag. They come in sizes 1 - 5.

Very helpful, thanks. I will have to start searching on e-bay. :smile1:

Well... My friend tried to wipe off some light stain on her birkin handle and the colour came off and stained her damp cloth. She got a preowned which is about 10 yrs old. You think she got ripped off or it's normal after few years of wear

I'm trying to save up for a bag and wondering whether I need to save up longer and stick with brand new :shucks:

I own many vintage bags and the color does not come off on anything, ever.
