Not sure if I responded to this thread...

I customed a weather carry all for my bags, I actually use them for my airport check-ins.
Will post pic when I receive them.
No veau box, barenia, crinoline, and toile for rain/humid weathers; other than that I do use clemance, ardenne, fjord, swift, and chevre, in that order, but always have a covering just in case.
I find these leathers rather rain friendly, :p

I think its quite ok to carry H in the rain. I do wipe down my bags every so often w/ a damp chamois.

Just put a folded plastic bag in your h bags incase of unexpected rain.. Neverused my rain coat...

I have a stash of rain coats all in numbered H envelopes, one through five, with the size purse each one is used for written on the envelope, all in a drawer by the door. I make sure I always have one in my bag when I leave the house. They take up practically no space and they refold easily should you have to use it. I hesitated for a log time to use them as well but my SA told me they were easy to refold and she was right. I've been caught in the rain unexpectedly so many times that I don't dare leave the house without one.

Thanks everyone, this really helped a lot!!! :hugs:

I will check-out docride and Lala´s posts for rain-proofing and pics.

If it's drizzling I'll just use my clemence jypsiere, if it's coming down harder then a canvas LV works like a charm - those bags can take anything!

There is "carrying Hermes in the rain" and "carrying Hermes in the rain". In the first instance, it's carrying Hermes while walking under an umbrella from the car to the store a short distance away. In the second, it's walking around a major city long distances carrying Hermes, perhaps with an umbrella and perhaps not.

In the first, one can carry almost any leather other than the exotics if the bag is wiped immediately upon getting inside. In the second, leave Hermes at home!!!

This thread is fascinating! Thanks so much for all your posts. I am terrified of being caught in the rain and I hear only good things about Celine mini-luggage, too.

My sacrificial bags are Chanel and Goyard.

But I always have an appropriate raincoat in all my H bags so if I'm caught in the rain, it's not a problem. My DH has gotten so used to the drill that he doesn't even look twice anymore.

I just wanted to clarify and correct the above post ^^^ I should not have written laminated I should have written that some leathers have a heavier color over spray (white bags for instance) which makes them "feel laminated" and some some are embossed (Epsom, Courchevel) have texture pressed on to their surfaces and these sorts of leathers feel laminated. When I say leathers I mean non exotics. Thanks

I have a plastic bag or a longchamp le pliage with me in my bags.

The longchamp le pliage is a great idea, thanks :smile1:

i've seen pics of a black garbage bag used as a cover over H birkins. yikes! it's like wearing couture in a public bus. nothing against public transport, i take them but not in haute couture lol. i like envirosax if i want to hide my bag or when it rains and i've no shelter.

i use all my bags in the rain, so far so good. of course i don't just stand there and get drenched but so far they all survived a smattering of rain.

the old box leather is pretty water resistant already. as for my brand new box leather it got a little wax-based treatment (netural saphir surfine) and it was fine in the rain too. i wiped it down though as soon as i got shelter.

bumping up this thread....

hey fashionistaO, do you already have the carry-all you customised as mentioned earlier? can you share a pic? I'm using the envirosax but they are not exactly rain-proof for anything bigger than a drizzle.

Ooops didnt think anyone reading remembered:blushing:

Project was interrupted(went to milk cattle) let me followup next week and I will post a pic for you dear ;)

What kind of criteria do you look for in a carry-all ?!?

for a moment i had an image of fashionistaO milking cattle and possibly using cow udders as a "raincoat" for the Hermes bag. :p

rain-proof and lightweight would be a good criteria.

Le Pliage sounds like a great idea. Does anyone know if putting a lighter colored leather inside a dark colored Le Pliage would cause dye transfer to the leather purse, whether raining or not? I know Le Pliage is waterproof but dye transfer sometimes happens without any water present
