Swift, Clemence, Chevre Mysore, Togo...I dropped my wallet once when leaving dry cleaning place, it was such a heavy rain that day.
When I got home I got a phone call from the dry cleaning guy saying that my wallet was found in the middle of the driveway and was laying in the water for at least 10-15 minutes. I ran, of course, to pick it up and I can say that whatever is made in Togo is insubmersible, literally. My wallet looks brand spanking new still, but I had to replace my driver license and every cc that was in it.

Dear Fellow TPFers,

I have heard about the different leathers and how they react to rain - but I am curious to hear what each of you actually does when it is pouring or just drizzling?!
Which bag do you whip-out of your closet and "sacrifice" ?
Or are there bags who have seen lots of rain and are totally fine?

Pics also appreciated! :hugs::yes:

I wear clemance bags, Massai cut, bolide and I have used my togo Paris Bombay 37 too. I wipes them off as soon as I get inside and they seem to be fine. Sorry no pics.:flowers:

i used epsom bags consciously in light rainy weather.
been caught in light rain with togo, clemence and swift - all survived intact..
been caught in a massive downpour with epsom bag also, for a good 10-15 minutes, bag was wet but survived.
i do wipe my bags as soon as i am in a dry area..

Actually I grab my Celine mini luggage in smooth leather. :shrugs: It's so durable I don't have to worry at all. We had hail stones over the weekend and I was caught out several times - the bag was fine.

There is "carrying Hermes in the rain" and "carrying Hermes in the rain". In the first instance, it's carrying Hermes while walking under an umbrella from the car to the store a short distance away. In the second, it's walking around a major city long distances carrying Hermes, perhaps with an umbrella and perhaps not.

In the first, one can carry almost any leather other than the exotics if the bag is wiped immediately upon getting inside. In the second, leave Hermes at home!!!

My sacrificial bags are Chanel and Goyard.

But I always have an appropriate raincoat in all my H bags so if I'm caught in the rain, it's not a problem. My DH has gotten so used to the drill that he doesn't even look twice anymore.

Hello, I'd like to chime in.. No.1 all Hermes leathers can be treated to be water proof and resistant... Some leathers by Hermes are laminated and are weather proof..examples are Epsom and Vache Ligiee (spelling?) and there are several others as well. You may like to checkout my reference thread on leather care. Don't be scared off...And I ceratinly wouldn't wish a silly looking plastic cover on your handbag in rain or even Halloween! Cheers!

I just wanted to clarify and correct the above post ^^^ I should not have written laminated I should have written that some leathers have a heavier color over spray (white bags for instance) which makes them "feel laminated" and some some are embossed (Epsom, Courchevel) have texture pressed on to their surfaces and these sorts of leathers feel laminated. When I say leathers I mean non exotics. Thanks
