My fjord and vache liegee bags take rain really well- though I don't try to soak them with water or anything! Epsom should be ok as well, my epsom wallet has been in snow and rain without any marks of it.

I had big trouble last weekend with my barenia / toile Birkin. Terrible rain got me and I had no umbrella.. So I tried to hold my dear bag close to me.. Not a wise move! Barenia leather survived well, it had quite a few huge drops of water on it but I wiped it and next they it looked as good as ever. However my dark blue jeans colored a spot in to the toile! :crybaby: What I learned was that I'll do no more (rainy) outings with natural toile - indigo denim - no umbrella....!

So sad! Your experience makes me wonder if the canvas Garden Party bags would have suffered the same fate.:confused1:

here is a pic post-marshmellow incident.
it might not be to clear, but it really is the way it was when i first purchased it. ITS UNBELIEVABLE! :woohoo:

I have a Chamomix birkin and I am quite careful with it.

I also have an LV Alma in Epi leather in red that I use quite a bit. It wears very well. I was not an LV fan until a saw someone with a red epi bag on a NY-London flight. I also love the Alma bag, it is a classic and a good alternative to Hermes.

The red is stunning. So sad it is not a color for me so the only other epi choice for me would be black. I already have two black bags, so I was kind of looking for a change. Glad you are enjoying your Alma::smile1:

something of the sort happened to a friend of mine with her suhali lockit.
Suhali is goatskin and i believe it to be a very sensitive leather but anyway she wiped off the color transfer wipe ULTRA SENSITIVE BABY WIPES WITH NO ALCOHOL.

YOU SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY!!!

My togo ebene birkin has seen some rain for sure - no changes in leather or color - she looks terrific! At the same time, I don't use her as a shield during big storms either! :graucho:

DiamondS: It's so good to hear that barenia handles rain drops very well. I was afraid that it'll make a watermark like LV leather does. Really sorry to hear about the color transfer on your toile though! Hope you can get it off with the non alcohol baby wipes that [clearstatic] suggested.

I have a Herbag made with bridle leather which has got absolutely soaked. At first it looked as if it had blistered but when I got indoors I just left it to dry naturally ( no wipe down, no fuss at all) and it has restored itself to its former glory.

Got a Vache Ligee Kelly now and the leather is beautiful but tough - my SA advised using the raincoat in an sustained downpour ( such as we get here in Manchester quite a lot!) but really not to worry - the leather will sort itself out if it is left to dry.

Fjord looks a good choice too. There's no point in spending top dollar on something and then have to watch the skies all the time to see if you can use it.

Docride is our leather expert here, trust her on her advice :) I live in a very rainy climate too, and got myself a box leather Kelly (which if water falls on it, it should be clean off immediately if not it would blister), many tpfers suggested me to get the envirosax which is really useful in rain where I keep my kelly in it when it rains. However, if you are really sensitive to scratches etc, get the togo/clemence leather better

I have a few reasons why I dont use my H under the rain, heavy or drizzilling. First this is my only leather bag from H and if I dont strike a jackpot, this will be my one and only, so I take care the bag more than me (ridiculous and I know, what to do?!!?), secondly, i cant imagine covering the bag with a cover and it will look so 'stupid' on me (no offend ladies) and I cant stand how other ppl will look at me and finally, my mono LV got the ugly stains from rain, so I have learnt my lesson..;)

I have been studying all the various posts for weeks now to help me decide on an appropriate first Hermes bag for me. I had narrowed it down to a Bolide or a Kelly for everyday use, but then I saw the beautiful 37 Paris Bombay and thought it might be appropriate. I went to the Vancouver, BC Canada store to see if they had an example of it. They had a beautiful brown togo in I think they called Cafe. I tried it on, but it just didn't feel right for me, so back to thinking about the Bolide and the Kelly. The leathers I like are togo for the Bolide and togo or evercalf for the Kelly. I find it all overwhelming, so I decided to buy a light blue Carmen key ring and call it a day. Just as an aside, I asked the SA which leathers would be appropriate for our rainy climate. She said that they don't recommend any of Hermes leathers be exposed to rain and I should use a rain cover. Whoa!!!!! Hang on here a minute. I can just picture myself running to the grocery store and (being a little on the obsessive side) fussing over some stupid little rain cover. My instinct tells me I would become frustrated and stop using the bag. I really want an everyday bag that I use without worrying about and really enjoy, so I am starting to think maybe the bags just are not for me. My husband escorted me to the Louis Vuitton store across the street where I asked about their epi leather. The SA said it was fairly sturdy and was not a problem in the rain. So now I am wondering if an alternative would be to have the epi leather LV bag (for those interested either the Alma or Passy) and develop a rainbow of beautiful Hermes leathers in small items for the interior. Anyways, after such a long winded story, I was wondering if any of you have had similar experiences and what you decided to do.

Snow is the same as rain for me. I have not protected my bags from rain or snow (maybe a quick wipe-off after I come in) with no problem at all in these leathers: vache liegee, Togo, clemence, chevre. I would only avoid water with Epsom, I've had that blister.
