Grey! But a beige-ish grey. The photo makes them look a tiny bit lighter and greener than they are. It’s hard to describe the color aside from it’s an incredibly neutral color

ETA: actually is it possible for them to have both a slight green and grey undertone? The color is soo hard to describe, I’ve never seen it before. But it’s prob the greatest neutral I’ve seen
I have seen the colour referred to as 'Greige'

I wish I had read this forum before my purchase! I bought a pair Chypre natural in December to match my Birkin in 37.5 and never wore them then bought a black pair two weeks ago when it was quite busy on the weekend. I was wearing wide leg jeans and didn’t want to take too much time when trying them, I thought they felt fine…(I was going base off of a pair of extra I got while i was still a just in the early stages of pregnancy which fit at the time with a bit of room) . I wore the black Chypre twice now and the second time is when I noticed I should of got 38.. they my heel is on the back edge and it gave me a blister if I move forward my toe sticks out a smidge a bit. I’m so disappointed in myself lol my extras now don’t fit well either, thanks to the unfortunate pregnancy foot growth… I now have two pair of shoes I can’t exchange. I’ll have to suck it up. I def recommend people to size up.

Oh dear so sorry to hear that. Congratulations though! Maybe give yourself some time the body do need some time to adjust, pregnancy is a big thing on our bodies.

I guess everyone’s feet is different. I just got the Chypre and it’s true to size for me. I still think they are ugly but super cute haha

I’m only going to buy suede Chypres from now on. These are wayy more comfortable than the calfskin, no breaking in necessary! The stitching under the strap doesn’t irritate me like it does in the calfskin. I’m in love!!!
So pretty! Glad to hear your positive experience with these Chypre sandals!

Curious, as a Chypre ‘noob’, how long I should anticipate the break in period will be. I’ve worn Birkenstock Arizonas (37 regular) for years but felt the Chypre might provide a slightly more elevated but still comfortable look. I tried on a bunch of sizes and settled on the 37.5. I’ve been wearing them around the house today with socks to help stretch them a bit as I have incredibly wide feet.

TLDR: Would appreciate the input of ‘experienced’ Chypre wearers re break in time please!

I had the exact same experience. The white calfskin were terribly uncomfortable for me because of that stitching and my pinkie toe being squished. Same size in the suede (same color as yours coincidentally) were comfortable out of the box. I'm now stalking the website for more suede colors.

Yes the calfskin chypres are soo stiff and uncomfortable. I got my white ones a few months ago and still haven’t broken them in yet. I just wish they came out with more suede colors that didn’t have a black footbed!

I did get a heads up from my NM sales associate who like her Hermes too, that she had the same issue and has stuck with suede. So, when it felt uncomfortable trying them on I heeded her words of caution and did not buy them. Maybe sometime this spring/summer or next year...or the year after that...or the one after that Hermes will have a nice rainbow of suede colors I can stalk at 2 AM, lol.

I’m a size 37 and got the size 37. Wished I got it at least a whole size up. Please let me know if they ever end up stretching.

New colours for Chypre 2024

I found that mine did loosen up a slight bit after daily wear for a month or so. I'm a 39.5-40 in shoes, but for the Chypre I went 39 actually!

Thanks for the update! At least I have a chance to stretch them out a bit!!! Just need to keep wearing them. 😅

I have also worn the same Birkenstocks in size 36 for years. My ideal Chypre size is .5 size up, like you, so I'm 36.5. I also have wide feet and I feel like I can't wear anything other than the suede. I only wear mine occasionally so I haven't broken them in yet. I am guessing I need to put in at least 8-10 hours in them which I have not done yet...

I definitely will never buy an epsom or calfskin pair.
