I need help. My wife now thinks that flying to Paris two times a year to go shopping will be so much more affordable than buying in the US. For comparison sake, I’m going to say euro and dollar are 1:1 (euro has a slight higher exchange). We went into Dior yesterday before our flight home. Stunning coat was 4500. Here one similar is 5800 and that’s not factoring in tax (that you get refunded from EU and that gets charged here). She also calculated the Hermes stuff we purchased and told me that between the Picotin, cashmere hat and two pairs of shoes that we purchased, one of the pairs of shoes came out as “free”. Ack! Help!

I've flown French Bee and they were fine. It's a discount airline in the way where you have to pay to choose your seats and for in flight drinks and snacks(if in basic economy). But the flight attendants were nice enough and it was smooth flight both times I used them. My flights to Paris were overnight so I slept the whole time and returning back I relaxed and used the in flight entertainment to watch movies. I would use them again but I am not a picky flyer.

Update as we just came back. French Bee is “fine”. We sat in what they call their “cozy cabin” which is rows 11-16. The worst part of the whole flight was flying out of Newark. Terminal B is horrible.

Flight itself. I’m 6’5 and the person in front of me reclined their seat to Paris. That was torturous as the seats recline a good amount. Lesson learned that for $80 you can upgrade to bulkhead seat with nobody in front of you. Flight back from Paris was as smooth as could be as the four of us didn’t have anyone in front of us to crush our knees. Next time I’ll likely go for their premium ticket, bot coach was as smooth as could be for our Paris -> Newark leg.

Wife maths is always correct. 😂

I had my husband buy a Max Mara coat for me on a trip to Paris and the savings basically covered 2/3 of his trip cost.

At 6'5 I can see that being uncomfortable. Glad the return leg of your flight was better.

She's not wrong!
I must say when I heard you were flying French Bee I did worry about the legroom.
$80 for Bulkhead seat..bargain! Thats less than tax you'd pay on a Pico if you purchased it back home.

I appreciate the advice all of you have provided over the years to help spoil my wife. Today, you have not been helpful 🤬. I have a friend here as well, that I texted to help talk some common sense into my wife. With my wife in the group chat, her advice was essentially “Let’s make a girls weekend out of it and go shop together”. Bah humbug. 😂😂😂

Lol, you could also remind her that paying US customs and duty eats into the savings.

They just waved us by without paying a cent. It was way too convenient.
That’s awesome! It’s definitely way cheaper this way. Just the amount you save on VAT return alone. And then if you are able to fly over there on miles, even more so. Really the only extra is the food and hotels, but chalk that up to good food in Paris for a nice trip. Sorry not helping😹
