Anyone see this? Well someone did their research. So many juicy bits including the following:

“Why are women—and increasingly men, too—so hungry for the Birkin? One justification for spending huge sums on a handbag is that the Birkin is a good investment. Except, it isn’t really. Any profit on reselling a bag purchased in store will be lower after factoring in the thousands of dollars spent on other goods to qualify.”

Thank you for posting the article.

I found this interesting (and supportive of my own opinion that Hermes isn’t really anti reseller (bc the potential of profitable resale — even if one never does it— increases the items value) :

Quote:
Hermès doesn’t like the flipping, but stamping out the resellers would harm the brand’s own interests. The company raised prices of its exotic-skin Birkins by around 20% in January. Resellers think the move was aimed at squeezing profits in the secondhand market, but it hasn’t worked. Dealers passed on the increase to their customers without a hitch.

Also interesting are the below. IMO it’s the resellers who become the vips who do this too. They are selling their own inventory. You’ve seen them selling multiple pairs of chypre and orans, selling globes. St. Louis lamps, bikes and fj and then sometimes offloading multiple qb even exotics claiming I need to buy a house or buy something expensive. someone also recently mentioned to me that allegedly one reseller in the h fb group was flexing a brand new gold b30 from dc and it looked like the bag was up for resale already on the reseller’s website. I also think there are groups of these vip customers who work with each other to resell. I’ve seen resellers compliment each other in h fb groups with trusted seller comments. Anyway:

“Hermès knows its top clients are flipping the bags. Read the fine print on a Birkin receipt, and the company asks that its customers will not, “directly or indirectly, resell Hermès products purchased in our boutiques for commercial purposes.” No Hermès shopper was willing to go on the record for this article about the experience of flipping the bags to a reseller, out of concern over being blacklisted by the brand.”

“In the past, resellers recruited flight attendants or polished overseas students to buy Birkin bags in Hermès stores all over the world in return for a fee. Now, the flippers get most of their supply from Hermès’s VIP customers. They also get Birkins by trading with their peers on WhatsApp. If clients are looking for a size or color that one seller doesn’t have in stock, they can put out a call on the resellers’ group chat to see if anyone has that model.”

I'm not sure about other countries but it seems to be just for the garden parties in Korea. They had the start of the year price increases across the board so this recent price increase for garden parties came as a surprise.

I also checked out various online articles if they had more information but not really. I think the leather gp they refer to is the negonda leather.

Price increases:
  1. canvas garden party 30: 3,270,000 KRW to 4,040,000 KRW (23.6% increase)
  2. canvas garden party 36: 3,740,000 KRW to 4,400,000 KRW (17.6% increase)
  3. leather garden party 30: 5,690,000 KRW to 5,870,000 KRW (3.1% increase)
  4. leather garden party 36:5,960,000 KRW to 6,240,000 KRW (4.7% increase)
Not sure if will be able to read Korean but below is the link to the news article that seemed to have the most information and screenshots of an insta post I was able to find that speculates why (not sure how reputable this account is). They think it's because of a release of a mini garden party so they're trying to adjust the overall prices for the GPs.

I've only been able to confirm the prices.

Thank you for this info! So weird how it's only for the GP in Korea and not GP in all countries...

Hello, I'm a newbie so I cannot post new threads so I'm hoping this Hermes chat thread is an okay place to ask this question. (please be gentle with me, apologies in advance for any faux pas i might inadvertently make)

I bought this Hermes 24/24 on Ebay.

It was listed as New but never used. It was found to be authentic by the Ebay Authentication process but a minor issue was found. These 2 pictures were sent with the caption: The exterior has scuffs or scratches that are not shown or described in the listing.

It is the 24/24 size and color that I want. Listed at $9500. I have the option to return to buyer with full refund or to continue with purchase. I've asked Ebay for more pictures to show where on the bag the scuffs are. I've also sent a request to bababebi for her opinion. What are your thoughts on this being a deal breaker or not?

Thank you so much for your advice in advance, I appreciate it so much!

I feel like that price is very high and I would return it based on that. Fashionphile tends to list them in the 7-8k range.

Thank you so much for your reply! What are your thoughts on the scuffs in the pictures? Would they be deal breakers for you?
I agree with @acrowcounted that the price seems high. As for the scuffs, I’d be surprised to find a ‘used’ 24/24 without any scuffs on the corners given that it doesn’t have feet. However, I would hesitate to pay that amount for a 24/24 with those visible scuffs.

Welcome to TPF and the slippery H slope! @acrowcounted and @tinkerbell68 already chimed in about the price being on the higher side overall and especially so with those corner scuffs. I’ve recently seen fashionphile go as low as 6K for 24/24 29 in excellent condition. All that being said, it is very personal if you think those scuffs are deal breakers or not especially in a bag with the exact specs that you wanted. I do think that the right bag will come along at the right time for the right price when it’s supposed to. With H, there’s always going to be another bag that we’ll want lol so if this one isn’t “the one” for you, there’s another one waiting for you. Hope that helps and good luck with the decision!
