Once I was in Asia, I went up the elevator and a lady carrying a B was on the other side, going down. Instead of smiling knowingly, she gave me side eyes and looked me up and down. I was too slow to mimic her
I just saw a lady with her fake Hermes CSGM and fake Kelly with a possibly fake Oran. It was too hideous I couldn’t get myself to “compliment” her just to see the reaction. I would expect her to fully eat up the compliment as she clearly was very proud of wearing her imitation products. If I complimented her I suspect she would laugh that she was able to fool people with how “smart” she is not wasting money.

ETA: I quoted the wrong part of the convo. I was referring to the part when you mentioned seeing fake bags.

Sorry @Helventara, Asians aren’t notorious for smiling or acknowledging strangers (I’m Asian). We’re actually highly suspicious of them. Unless we’re visiting a different country, then we’ll act like long lost friends 😆. Well, at least my and older generations.

Where I live in California, I rarely see H items. So when I do, I always try to compliment the wearer. So far I think I’ve only done it 2-3 times (that’s how rare it is). But when I go more north even just 30 mins away that’s when I see more H in the wild. I love it but don’t greet the person anymore (cos mostly they are Asians and again, my first statement).

I'm with you. I have had too many people photograph my bag surreptitiously (I am always afraid I will end up in Wildlife, I think I did once) or stare rudely. If you want to stare because you like the bag, give a compliment instead, and if you want to photograph me or my bag DEFINITELY say hello (or be extra good at sneaky photos).

I have also stopped complimenting others' bags as most often the response is snobby (I do not think I "fit the profile" LOL). Once in a while I will still say "I love your bag", but only if I am carrying a bag at least as nice ;)
Agree 100% with ^

And a side comment. In Asia, it has been my limited, very anecdotal, unscientific, and personal experience, that people carrying gold picotins, ghw, esp., seem to look and act pretty snobby. Unless something is an unusual vintage piece, and I am elsewhere, like NYC, I tend to keep comments to myself. (But, If you happen to be carrying a vintage porc Il di shiki (spelling?), I will come running up lol

I’ve been tempted by that Ile de Shiki over the years so it might be me one day; feel free to sidle right over

Has anyone ever been "accused" of wearing a fake? I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happend.
I was at a party and complimented a lady wearing her Birkin (ostrich leather) and while chatting she looked at my B and said: "That's a nice knock off. Can't hardly tell it's a fake".

I was flabbergasted as I got my B from my local store a few weeks ago.

WOW! I am more interested in what your reaction/response was in real-time...

How incredibly rude! I hope you had a great comeback (like "I could say the same thing about your nose"....).

Who feels they can just comment negatively on other people's bags?!

Unfortunately nothing witty. Just raised my brow and said: excuses me I don’t think I got it right. She did looked a bit flustered but my sister pulled me along with her. Angry as hell but not wanting to cause a scene.

All I can think is why does she feels the need of saying that? 🙈 insecurity on her part? 😈

Her bag was probably fake!
