It's "bo-LEED". Means a fast car or racing car (thus the relationship with Bugatti and the travel bag intended to go in a car trunk). You can say "comme un bolide" to mean "at top speed".
Pronouncing it any other way is like saying it's okay to call a Kelly a "Keeley" or a Roulis a "Rooliss". :shrugs:
My SA prounounces it "roo-liss"... 🧐

Try this pronunciation guide. ETA: Here's a video that goes through several Hermès terms (including Bolide! but not Roulis). I will check over again for accuracy and then add to the pronunciation reference thread.

Editing again to add: I don't think that anyone expects native English speakers to pronounce, say, Swift, Gulliver, Birkin, or Kelly with a French accent, since the derivations of all of those are from English surnames and they have an English pronunciation; it is understandable if English speakers pronounce a name like Constance or Evelyne in the English way and not the French; but when it's a French word like Bolide or Roulis, I wonder why anyone would make up a pronunciation that does not exist.

I don't understand why H should be protective of the HAC? They have discontinued the smaller sizes quite a few years ago, for me one of the stupidest things H has done! HACs 32 and 28 are so much more chic than the Birkin! It drives me crazy that it's discontinued.
I'm just going to answer you here so that we don't go off-topic in the SO thread.

H is protective of the HAC because it's the precursor for the Birkin and the Kelly, and they don't want to make customers call the shots on the modifications to the parent design. (I'm just assuming here)

They also probably discontinued the smaller HACs because Hermès might have identified that the HAC in handbag sizes and the Birkin in handbag sizes cater to similar customer preferences and usage scenarios, leading to internal competition (market cannibalization). There could also be more sales of the Birkin than the HAC (since Birkin is more popular just by the name) and they want to streamline their focus.

Hi there
Just noticed , or should I say feel a split inside this birkin is this a common problem ? It feels like a cord inside has split ? No damage on outside- just wondering if anyone else has had this issue ?

Sorry to hear this! There is no cord inside the handles, but there are layers of leather. Sometimes these layers can separate or split, though I’ve only seen this happen on older bags. I would take the bag to your local boutique to have an After Sales specialist or Craftsperson take a look at it.

Hello All !
Not sure if right place to ask,

I am looking into a togo birkin 30 from a seller but the birkin has NO clochette and key set.

I know it affects resale value (which am not much bothered about !)

But is it possible to order clochette and key set from Hermes’?

Do I have to send the bag to Paris ?

Thanks

Yes, after sales service can help with this but will require you to leave your bag with them to match the color. This can be done at Madison (I’ve done it) or at other boutiques with aftercare specials; a smaller boutique may send the bag to Paris. :flowers:

I’m unfamiliar with Australian boutiques but I would imagine there are after care services available especially for an easy fix such as this. Best bet is to head to your nearest boutique and see what they recommend.

Adding: you will want to be certain the bag is an Hermes product (most tPFers recommend using an authentication service when opting for a secondary market purchase), otherwise things could get sticky.
