The results for this auction were pretty interesting. Quite a few "desirable" bags (by which I mean the bags that everyone's trying to get from boutique, like Kelly 25 and Birkin 25) went for less than the big resellers would ask, even after premium. Even this Kellywood didn't go as high as Christies predicted.

What did go high (and I am doing this from memory so forgive me if I missed) - most of the diamond bags, the Cargo bags, the Desordres, the Kelly Lakis, the Kelly bag charm (?!). As has been the case for a while, the B35s were absolute bargains IMO. But let's just say, LOTS of bags under $20K before tax which is usually about where resellers start their pricing.

I feel like resale is softening, and softening fast.
The kelly picnic was also shocking. The birkin picnic didn’t do so well though.
My observation from scanning is that cute and pastels sell still for very high prices, also some selective special editions. But size has to be small.

I am in a way relieved big bags are not back yet.

What is everyone’s take on that Kelly charm that went for over $11,000! (Actually more if you add on the fees!)
Usually realized price listed in auction results includes the premium. It makes the auction house look better vis a vis their estimate.
Still a crazy price for a Kelly charm.

The thing I see with auctions (and the reason I rarely win them) is that people get very caught up in the bidding excitement, especially if there’s only a couple bidders, and will go past their intended spending limit. Many people also don’t calculate the huge premium and taxes, or think about it less because they are bidding a different number (another intentional auction technique).
This happens more in real auctions (Christies was online only with no live bidding, so more of an eBay structure ), but is still a factor. Or, someone just really really really wanted that charm!

If realized price includes the premium then some of those bags were a steal!!!!

If I had known the Box Birkins would be so low....But again I just bought a bag at auction (and yep it was a larger size exotic) ... this Christies auction makes me feel like I overpaid, but, also, we all have the things we really love, and it's very individual. For instance, that Bleu Electrique shiny croc B35 was a steal, relatively, and it's stunning, but I could never carry it.

Yes, the huge 27% premium plus sales tax and shipping with insurance! I won an exotic B30 via a Sotheby's online auction a few months ago and learned the hard way! I knew there would be a premium, but the amount surprised me. I also was not expecting to win! I did not pay close enough attention to the Conditions Report (busy day at work and I sort of just bid on it as a lark because the photos looked great and it was an attractive price) until AFTER I won the lot and realized that there was third party work done on the bag and it needed additional refurbishment. :frown: (No wonder I won!) Fortunately I sent it to @docride who did a great job restoring it for me! I've been meaning to post in the vintage thread... I ended up paying slightly less than 50% of what it would be new at the boutique so I guess I still saved... kind of.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal in the end! But yes we live and learn. At this point I usually want to see anything I am buying in person, which usually isn't possible with online-only auctions as they do not have previews. This has its downside too, because you can fall in love with something once you see it in person, and then you are well and truly screwed :P (this is what happened to me!).

Please do post your new bag! We'd all love to see a vintage miracle!!

ETA: @Bdbunny we bought almost the same bag  Mine's a 35 in fauve alli! I don't think you will regret that bag AT ALL.

You live, you learn. What else can we do. But 50 off retail is still really good!

Just noticed there's a retourné in Togo in the current Christies auction, if that is interesting
Cassis was not new in 2022, it was just a holdover colour from the previous few seasons. In actuality, that colour is over a decade old. I have seen some 2023 Cassis bags this year, but most have been dated for 2022 or earlier. Availability will depend on what your store has ordered— which is mostly at the discretion of your SM and Paris.

Veering OT slightly: As I mentioned in my earlier post, for reasons unknown to me, Hermès has never produced a large amount of purple bags (bar mauve bags). The two major exceptions were Raisin and Anémone. Cassis has not been as lucky, unfortunately.
Ok thank you. Sounds like I should not hold out for this cassis b25.

Would anyone know why when I was offered a quota bag (on a Thursday) I was only given 2 days to pick it up and it had to “be sold” by end of day Saturday? My SA would not let me pick it up the following Monday and the SA also called me multiple times on the day I was going in to pick up the bag, saying their manager was asking when I was coming in to get the bag to make sure it gets sold. I am local to the store.
For most customers, I think the longest they can hold a bag for you is 4 days. If you were offered on Thursday, picking up Monday would put you out of the 4 day hold. if your store isn’t open on Sunday, that’s why they would need you to pick up by end of business Saturday.

I’m in a bit of a weird situation here.

I bought an ostrich Bastia online about a week ago and I had it exchanged right away because one of the follicles was right along the edge and lifting.

I received my replacement today, and I’m honestly appalled—the box arrived a little smush and the paper “ribbon” holding everything together was arrived torn and miscentered, as if messed with prior to being shipped out. The worst part is, some of the glazing has smeared onto the leather and being a lighter color, it’s completely visible on the Bastia.

Hermes is closed today, and I can’t request a return from my online account since this is the exchange. I’ve sent an email with all of the details to Hermes. I’m immensely disappointed in this order, and I’m more concerned my return will be denied. Does anyone know if I should have a problem?

It sounds like a quality issue. You should not have an issue.

When your SA orders something for you through charge send that will get shipped to your home, do you get tracking info? Also is the orange box inside a generic box? I’m nervous if it’s just the orange box, which may attract thieves.

Yes and yes. And the delivery company, usually FedEx, says it requires a signature, but I have watched on too many occasions when they have just left the package on my doorstep and claimed that I signed for it. For this reason, I prefer to have things shipped to the store for me to pick up in case anything were to ever happen with the delivery.
