Oh, that's what I need for a pair of short boots that have elastic only. They look like men's boots, but I think I broke the back (heel) when I try to get into one of them. DH helps me. I need me one of those jacks. I'll bet they have them at the saddle shop.
Thanks, purse!!
I just read a post from Hong Kong and they are already starting to celebrate the new year because it is tomorrow there. I have never quite grasped that concept.

the jacks are to get the boots off. I did see a shoe horn on a long handle at the Clark's shoe store today (shopping with mom). It was only $15.

Yo! I'm back! I did a super fast run around a store at the mall and got myself a pair of skinny black jeans to go with the new boots and a dark jean bootcut pair to wear normal. Got three t-shirt tops too.

Oh and the best thing about the boots!? €95!!! Think they were selling for $200 or so on JCrew when they had them in stock. But I guess it's like most things made in Europe, they are much more expensive in the US.

What a great evening of shopping! And bargin shopping at that - my jeans and tops came to a total of €115, and then the boots too were good value. Yay! I like to spend less on clothes so I can keep my moneys for H :D

Right off to catch up now!

EB - so sorry to hear that your FIL is still in the hospital  Sending tons of vibes your way and tons of hugs too :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I can't wait for 2010 to be over with. I'm really looking forward to a fresh new start.

I second that!

I third that!

Here's a word to the wise about checking your work e-mail when it isn't expected: don't do it.

I foolishly checked mine and found a lengthy message from a former colleague who is working as a highly paid partner at a law firm. However, Mr. Highly Paid needs me to answer his client's question. Maybe it's me, but I'd be ashamed to take a job like that and have to ask someone who doesn't work for me for help to do it.

At this point, I'm tempted to help him for a piece of his hourly rate.

restricter - :wtf: That's nuts :wtf:

Countdown to Having My House Back. Guests leave this afternoon for the city, where they will stay at our little apartment overnight because their flight tomorrow is really, really early. A fact about which they have complained. There has also been a little griping (not too much, fortunately) about flying on New Year's Eve and therefore having to forego celebrations. And the family members whom DH got on a train so they could arrive home yesterday also moaned about how looooong the trip was, and how much more exhausting than a flight (which they couldn't get anyway, as everything is sold out for days to come). I am not understanding this. DH and I are driving people to stations, giving them keys to our living spaces and vehicles, helping to haul luggage, paying for car service to take everyone hither and yon. We have helped some family members pay their travel expenses. We have made numerous calls and used our credit card travel concierge to investigate flight options for family members. Still there are complaints. Um, people? There are folks who have been sleeping on cots at the airport for days. Well, all I can do is use this experience as guidance for my own behavior next time DH and I are inconvenienced on a trip.

Lesson to be learned here: Get a hotel room for the out-of-towners. All of them.

Mindi, I totally agree with BBL here. People are just so ungrateful. They should be so darn thankful to you and your DH that you have put them up for all this extra time and are helping them to get home, and then all they do is complain about it? Ugh :lecture:

Get this, purse--When one SIL's flight was cancelled, DH jumped on the phone to a travel concierge and found her another flight for the same day, landing about four hours later (that one ended up cancelled, too, but we didn't know that yet). So SIL is rolling her eyes and sighing because she would be getting in in the evening instead of late afternoon. And I said, "Really? Tell me you aren't going to be unhappy about that when we actually found you a flight for today." I shouldn't have said that, but I did. Truly, I was astonished. Also, SIL didn't pay for her plane tickets. We did. Wow.

:wtf: :bagslap: OMG Mindi. You and your DH deserve a medal for putting up with that in-law ungratefulness! I can't believe she didn't pay for her plane tickets!!!

Morning/afternoon, peeps!

I have a computer related dilemma, hoping my computer savvy Chat peeps can help, otherwise I'll be on hold till the New Year with customer support...I got Internet hookup for my dad for Christmas, and with a wireless router, everything works, but, it's a used router that doesn't have a security code, so basically we have insecure wifi. If I hook the modem directly to his laptops (acer and a Mac), the mouse freezes up. I have to unhook thd Ethernet cable and restart the computer to get the mouse to move. Any thoughts? Otherwise I go out and buy a new router, adding to my Dad's anxiety about even having Internet in the first place. Oy.

OB - I'll ask SO, he should know! One sec.

EB - you look awesome in your ski outfit! The mountain looks amazing. I've only went skiing once, on a fake slope thing over here. And surprisingly, I was actually quite good at it, I picked it up pretty quick. I'd love to go proper skiing on real snow!

nurse - that's crazy! You're working a 16 hour shift? :wtf: You're amazing! :flowers:

Right off to ask SO how to fix OB's pc.

EB: Sorry to hear about you FIL, and hopefully he will be better soon. Thank you so muvh for the pictures though! :smile1:

Restricter: Do it and feel much smarter than him. :p

Avril: Love your story and your boots too! Awwww, thanks. I just got home. Weeeeeeee. :yahoo:

OB

To secure your wireless network:

- find out what router brand you have
- google for the router brand's IP address
- type in that IP address into internet explorer => this will bring you to your personal router home page.
- search in there then for the setup for a wireless security key

Perhaps could you tell us what brand and model the router is? SO said that if you could do that, he could see if he could find out what menu you need to go into (each router manufacturer have their own format of setup page).

Also we did a quick search on the mouse not working after plugging in the modem, we just typed in "modem and mouse problems" into google and found a few links that said it could be that there's interference either between the modem + mouse (because they are both wireless) or else the modem and mouse are hooked up to the same COM port and so then neither work? Could that be it??

Avril- your new boots are gorgeous! Congrats on finally finding a pair in your size. I know you've been looking for awhile.

I call that wood thingy a bootjack. What does everyone else call it?

That's it! I think the guy in the saddlery called it a bootjack! Best invention ever!!!!

Avril, the new boots are gorgy and stunning. Congrats. Don't you just LOVE the Evelyne. BTW, what color is yours?

Purse, I call it a bootjack too.

Gotta go.

EB - the Evelyne is chocolate clemence I think. I posted on here about it a while back, lemme find the post - it was actually a pressie from my nana.

Found it - here's the post: http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/hermes-chat-639865-254.html#post17423599

I'll go take a pic of it. I'll just take it on my blackberry.

Yup, it's a bootjack. If the boots are snug, you can also get boot hooks to help pull them on (can't do that with the Kelly boots, dangit). Those boots are fantastic, Avril!! How cool that the guy recognized your bag!

I know OB - can't believe he recognised the bag!!! He was in such awe of it, I seriously was like :wtf: I'm not used to people fawning all over my bag because I don't actually have any friends IRL that are into Hermès!

Congratulations on the gorgeous boots! All saddlers (is that a word?) know about Hermes. When I took my Chanel boots into my saddlery, I saw very similar boots, maybe even the same that you got. I love two tone. Very classy, and horsey (in a good, classic way!) The problem I have with my feet is that they are always too narrow for boots, and somehow, with extra socks, an orthotic and sheer will, those babies fit my feet and now my below-knee muffin tops.

BBL, with horsey boots you can get different calf sizes. Or is it your feet are too narrow? Or is it the calves? My feet are really narrow. Really long and narrow *sigh*

The veterinary nurse just called and said Charley was done. They didn't have to extract any teeth, but one root of a 3-root molar was "yucky" so he has to take antibiotics an extra week. She said he did fine and he is very sweet, but his poor permanently stained brown teeth are still brown.

BBL - sending vibes to Charley!

It must be take a pet to a vet day! Today Fig heads back to see the specialist. Which reminds me, I'd better pack the sprays I've been using on her so he can see what I'm doing to her!

Stayed up watching the BBC "Pride & Prejudice" mini-series. Stoopid ATG! Now I'm all sleepy...but, happy. I love that series!

A-T-G - sending vibes to Fig too!

PS I love the BBC. And the best thing about the BBC? No ads! It's the best tv channel for no ads.

Avril those boots are awesome!!!

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments on the boots, you guys rock! :hugs:

Thanks, Avril! I tried googling the mouse problem, but I didn't use the word modem, so the answers were totally unhelpful :D The info you got makes sense. I'll try finding the router IP address and going that route. I know normally, you use a disk to set up the security code, but this one is BIL's old router, so the disk is long gone. I just know it's a Linksys router.

Thanks a bunch!!

OB

Hi OB - found this on about.com just typed in Linksys router IP address and got this:

Definition: The IP address 192.168.1.1 is the default for Linksys brand home broadband routers. This address is set by the manufacturer at the factory, but you can change it at any time using the network router's administrative console.

So that's prob what you're looking for!

I tried to take a photo of Evelyne and stupid blackberry didn't take a very good pic. It seemed to take an ok pic of the boots but not the bag? I'll ask SO to take a pic of the Evelyne tomorrow with his proper camera when there's some natural light and then I'll post it up!

Catching up.

Mindi - I can't believe the ingratitude! Forget a hotel next time, MEET them at a hotel so you can have someone washing your towels. Sorry for an awful end to such an awful ordeal. I hope you're taking a well-deserved nap.

Avril - amazing boots and loved the story about your Evelyne. Think of it as the ultimate compliment - a straight man wanted to check out your purse.

BBL - yay for Charley's mostly OK appointment.

OB - thank you for reminding me why I got an Airport Extreme. I'd scrap the Linksys and go all Apple, if possible.

Mree - hi!

Smuffy's exam was a breeze, except where they had to shave her to get a blood sample. While we were there, we visited Smokey who was being neutered. And then we got Winky's test results. There's blood in his urine so there will be more tests.

And that was my day. Fun.
