I have no purchasing experience at RE, but can confirm that the SAs in NBS, SLS (now "officially" Cadogan Place) and Selfridges are all very helpful and friendly. Harrods is way too busy to my taste. NBS can also get a bit hectic on Saturdays but is open on Sundays and usually pleasant on that day. SLS is usually much quieter.

Another brilliant shopping experience yesterday in NBS. The place was fairly quiet. May be it helps. SLS/CP was empty. Not a single customer apart from me!! It's becoming my favourite H in London but it's a shame that they inventory is smaller than NBS (limited storage/smaller budget according to SM which sounds surprising considering the catchment area...). Harrods? usual nightmare. SAs are nice(-ish) but rushed. They've apparently implemented an "appointment system" (no need to queue at crack of down though like in Paris).

@Lostinlondon Can you tell us more about the appointment system? Which store Bond street or Harrods has that? Does making an appointment increase your chances of a B or K?

Maybe my post was misleading. The appointment system is only in place at Harrods, on busy days. The place is tiny and gets busy with tourists. It's merely to ensure that everyone gets attended to by a SA in a fair order. Never seen one of the coveted bags at Harrods but never paid much attention either since I'm a man and only buy leather goods from the men's collection.

Start with New Bond Street and you will only be a few hundred yards away from Piccadilly where there are now many coffee/patisserie shops as well as Richoux, Peyton & Byrne at the RA, Fortnum's or the Ritz - you can pay your money and take your choice.

Hermes Royal Exchange in the City is smaller but has a lovely manager.
Ideal if you are using the train into Liverpool Street Station.

Hermes Sloane Street is walking distance from Hermes in Harrods.
And there is also Hermes in Selfridges.
London is well- served.

I find all the staff very helpful; i was looking for something specific in NBS and they did a search and located one for me in Royal Exchange.
Thank you . I am now in London, went to Hermes on bond street and it was quite crowded, wait for awhile, but we decided to leave. I did not see any Oran sandals.

I did not realize Harrods had appointment system, went there yesterday, it was packed, all the SA were very busy. Waited for awhile but there cuz I did not see any Oran's on the shelf.
Is it better to purchase it at Harrods, since you can detax there?

weekends are always crowded especially this and last week; shcools are still off
try weekday mornings which are best

Harrods was horribly cramped, but I did not have to wait long.
Quite unpleasant really.
There was a queue to get in to the Gucci area.
I went to three H shops; all the SAs were kind and helpful; they searched the system to see if what i wanted was available in London.
Surely Harrods is not the only place you can detax.

I frequent the store on New Bond St when I was living in the UK. The SAs there are friendlier than the ones on Sloane St. Harrods only has a small Hermes counter. Royal Exchange store sometimes can have suprise items.

I agree with Vanmiracle, give the stores a call if you already know what you are looking for.
If you do call will the SA tell if the have the item in that day? I have heard the people get the brush off and are simply told to come in.
