I am trying to source my first Birkin 35 or Kelly 28/32 in London. I'd rather buy a new one than have to buy pre-loved. There is so much mystery surrounding making a purchase, how easy is it to buy a fairly standard Birkin 35 in say Togo leather at one of the Boutiques in London?
Hermes online suggests you contact a SA in store. I emailed the website as it seemed the only way to get information. They replied and suggested I go to the store where a SA would be "delighted" to help me. Is it this easy???. I've read it's an absolute nightmare to get hold of one and the SA aren't polite.

Is there anywhere that shows the current colours?

You need to go to a physical store and meet an SA in person. On-line or website won't help at all.

Lol...........Yes I know they don't sell them online and the website won't be able to help but I needed some guidance where to start! I've just heard loads of rumours of how difficult and snooty the SA's are and the bags themselves are impossible to get hold of in the UK. It would be good to actually have some clarity and ideas of colours before I make a 6 hour round trip!
Hopefully the SA aren't really like that and it would be good to get some helpful service from them when I get to the store.

Thanks this looks helpful.

They are not going to give you an guidance apart from telling you to go to a store. They have leather swatches in the store they can show you.

Thanks and then is there a wait list or do they have bags in stock?
Hi Mulberrygal,

Buying outside of London, Manchester or Glasgow is not easy, if you don't visit either city regularly. As the members have alluded, you need to establish a rapport with an SA. There are tales of purchasing walk in Birkins and Kellys in the UK, but they are unicorns. If you want a straightforward, immediate purchase, the only way would be through a reputable reseller, you will pay a premium price but don't have to wait and can choose from their stock. Otherwise you have to be prepared to play the H game, find an SA you feel comfortable with (this can be the most difficult thing, and yes, there are some less than helpful SAs out there), start to purchase and build up a history with the brand and develop a rapport with your SA, and they will - at some point - take down a record of your preferred design, size, colour, leather, hardware, etc) and then - at some later point - you will get offered something which may, or may not fit your list of requirements. :shrugs:

Hello, sorry to bring you the not so good news --------------------
Buying a B/K?C without SA relationship or previous history is extremely difficult and your chance is close to zero. In fact if you dont live in London or the UK, they will not offer you bags without previous purchase history. Most bags are on display these days due to the weak pound £, and tourists flocking to the UK trying to score bags. Stores are reserving bags for local and established local UK clients. I have recently seen even a GP next to a "display only" sign!
The 0.0001 % who may score the rare offer are the lucky ones and you won't have the choice of colours. It may be a "turned down" bag from a local client or a colour the store wants to get rid of in preparation for the next collection.

Hi Mo, Thank you so much for this ;) you've saved me a wasted journey to London and explained everything very clearly. I think your suggestion is the way to go. I'm really only after the one bag and don't want to buy loads of accessories and make numerous trips to London. I will go down the re-seller route, even if I have to pay over the odds at least I don't have to jump through hoops and can get something relatively quickly.

Thanks Azukitea, It's what I was expecting but good to have it clarified. I really didn't want to make a special trip to London for nothing and waste precious time. The details Xiang pointed me to yesterday were an interesting read but didn't contain an answer to my question! As a Newbie to Hermes I just wanted to know if the stories were true.................obviously they are :crybaby: Lol, I might just stick with LV or Chanel or whatever grabs me............but first I'll try out Mo's idea and look at re-sellers

Thank you both! It's sad, but this will help me enjoy London more knowing in advance chances are 0. This way I don't have to bother to try!

I feel your pain Classybags, I'm in the same boat and have lived here for more years than I care to say.

Enjoy your trip to London, it's good that you know now, you will have no expectations. The next time I'm in London or at Heathrow, I will have a look but don't plan to make a special trip. I'll also have a browse when travelling to Paris or other cities  but in the meantime I'll check out all the re-sellers and see if I can find something I like that's not too old ;)

No problem, enjoy your trip to Europe whether it is London or Paris. But I would not suggest to visit London just so to go to H in hope of a B/K

I will be moving to London for three months, I'm so looking forward to it. Where would you recommend to purchase Hermes? Also any restaurant and places for tea time would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much

Start with New Bond Street and you will only be a few hundred yards away from Piccadilly where there are now many coffee/patisserie shops as well as Richoux, Peyton & Byrne at the RA, Fortnum's or the Ritz - you can pay your money and take your choice.

Hermes Royal Exchange in the City is smaller but has a lovely manager.
Ideal if you are using the train into Liverpool Street Station.

Hermes Sloane Street is walking distance from Hermes in Harrods.
And there is also Hermes in Selfridges.
London is well- served.

I find all the staff very helpful; i was looking for something specific in NBS and they did a search and located one for me in Royal Exchange.

Thank you so much for the information. I will be staying in Leister square. I'm kind of nervous and excited since it's my first time in Europe by myself. Any other information will be greatly appreciated
