:shame: I guess its blue light then, lol

YES its annoying not being able to shop on sundays, and having to drive all the way down to Short Hills......or NYC if Im there for brunch.

LOL, Blue Collar Laws...I don't think that's what it's called but that's pretty funny. No shopping on Sundays would drive me absolutely mad.

:roflmfao: :roflmfao:

Sorry, I'm cracking up at what you wrote. There is NO Sunday shopping here at all. Everything is closed, except for shops located in railway or gas stations, and during the week, the shops normally close at 6:00 p.m. Believe me, coming from NYC -- the city that never sleeps -- it was hard for me, too, but I've gotten somewhat used to it now.

I can't understand why Bergen County doesn't abolish its Blue Laws. They lose a FORTUNE in revenues.

Can't wait to visit the new *H* at Riverside Square next time I'm in town.

I know it, can you imagine?? It's one of the mysteries of Jersey, I think. I file it along with "no left turns anywhere, ever", and "you can't pump your own gas, we need something for this guy to do".

How are you getting there? May I hitch a ride? :flowers:

I was once told that the Blue Laws were related to the predominant religion of most of the residents of that county and probably wont be changed.

Short Hills is a better mall anyway. I am SHOCKED that H didnt open there. Riverside was considered the premier mall in Bergen in the 80s but Garden State Plaza long passed it for the past 15 yrs ever since NM and Nordstrom moved in there. I know the management company of Riverside is trying to revive it but it's a long ways away.

The President and CEO of Hermes USA Robert Chavez began his career in retail at the shops at riverside and said "he was very familiar with the Bergen county clientel" He was the one who helped Riverside get the First NJ boutique over Short Hills

I believe the residents of Bergen County vote every 10 years or something over the blue laws. It's nice to have a quiet day without traffic since there are so many malls and shops it the area. And with NJ being tax free on clothing/shoes, the malls attract a lot of traffic. Also, being closed on Sundays doesn't really affect the business much. For most retailers, their top earning branches are located in Paramus/Bergen County so people are just used to not shopping on Sundays.

Thanks for all the info, Lo and Alo6.

Now that you mention it, I do remember that bit about the county voting every 10 yrs on those Blue laws. I dont think it will ever be overturned tho.

Hi,

Sorry, I didn't see your reply until now ;(

Er, I won't be back in town/the area again until February, so my visit to *H* @ Riverside Square will have to wait.

I also like Short Hills and am surprised they didn't open there as it's pretty ritzy. I'm sure Riverside has lost a lot of business to Garden State Plaza, esp. with NM and Nordstrom being there, but they're probably trying to become a *player* again. I hope they succeed.

Frankly, I do everything I can to avoid going to Garden State Plaza because it's a zoo. NM and Nordstrom, notwithstanding, the place is crawling with low-class riff-raff (present company excepted, of course. I apologize if this offends anyone). They've expanded the mall (and continue to do so) but not the parking facilities. I've seen people fight over parking spaces. It's horrendous. My mom was threatened by some nasty sh*thead with a club over a parking space and I refuse to go back there again. Ever.

How are you getting there? May I hitch a ride? :flowers:

I used to shop in that area 20 years ago. The traffic is horrendous on Route4/17, a virtual parking lot. I'm in the Short Hills Mall area and doubt very much if I'd make the trip to Bergan County since NYC is about the same distance for me and there are two Hermes stores in the city. Wall Street has super merchandise always. Madison might have it also but it depends on the mood of one's SA. Two weeks ago I bought a 28cm Birkin so I thought. When it didn't show up by last Friday, I called. It seems my SA was avoiding my voicemails. I was placed through to shipping and they had no record of it. They very nicely placed me through to my SA, sold to someone else but will get me another. I don't think so. I will return all the junk she adds on to purchases in the future if there are any. I'd rather pay more from the few reliable sellers then take this garbage from a SA. I hope she reads this!
