Mwahaha, someone just bumped an old thread where you said that 2 carats is way too big for you. I love how perspectives change. I now say you should definitely go for one of the 2.1 G VS2 type stones. Keep looking and don't settle! Good luck...can't wait for beautiful pics! ;)

:p Oh you're SO BAD! LOL I KNOW! I totally said that!!! The 1.5 looked SO HUGE to me when we bought it! Okay to be fair, I have size 7 fingers so I need more coverage than some! haha... that is true... but I guess shrinkage is also true?? I didn't even mean to get on this path but I saw one close to 2.0 and just fell in LOVE! I know you know what I'm talking about miss 3+ carats!

Thanks for all the help from everyone - so nice to have people to bounce all these thoughts off of! :)

And I think you're right. The 2.1 G VS2's in the lead right now!

Okay so I have a question for Ame...

The gorgeous 2.0 I saw the other day that was the most expensive at $59 scores SO much better (I think!) than my current diamond - I mean how much better do you think it will perform?

My current ring's stats are on page one of this thread (screen shot of the cert) and scored 3.9 VG...

The 2.0 scored a 1.3 "excellent" across the board.

Is this something worth really ponying up for? Or am I getting too obsessed now?!
Thanks!

Here are the stats on the 2.0
Precision/symmetry/polish all excellent
VS1
G colour
total depth 61.8%
table size 57%
crown height 15.6%
crown angle 35.0 %
star length 50%
pavilion dept 43.1%
pavilion angle 40.7
lower half percentage 80
girdle medium
cutlet none

I mean, is that a huge difference? Worth paying much more for?

That's a pretty big difference. The HCA is really a "weeding out tool" and not a grand decider but it's EXTREMELY rare to get all 4 as "excellent". Usually three are and then one is "very good". That's pretty remarkable actually.

Are you having all of these brought in? Have you seen them side-by-side with your current one? You need to judge by your eye and less by just the paper. It's pretty great on paper, but if you don't like it when you see it, then it's certainly not worth the cost.

Is the $59K the actual ring price before trade-in of your current ring or is it $59K out of pocket in addition to your ring? That to me is a big difference! (And, holy crap!)

That helps Ame! - now I know why the huge jump in price with this one! It's pretty much the most expensive one on my little list even though it's not the largest. I attributed it to VS1 but I think it's just an exceptional performer.

Yes I did see it in real life and it is a STUNNING stone. I mean in the store they all look stunning! It's gorgeous. I had sort of put it out of my mind b/c it was the most expensive but now I'm kind of looking at it like a really rare treasure and I have to admit I kind of want it more!

The $59K is the price of the ring... my 1.5 would be subtracted from it so it'll be about 30 out of pocket. Pretty much doubling the price. That it makes you say it's pretty remarkable makes me want it more!! I know how picky you are about diamond stats! I just didn't know how rare this one was...

The 1.94 G VS2 got a couple of "goods" and a couple of "very goods" and ended up around 3. something.

Now I'm really curious about the 2.10 G VS2... I don't have the cert yet but it's $56 I think.

Wow... All excellent? Then i guess it is the best choice among all. Amazing!!!! So is that meaning u need to top up 30percent of 59k which is about 17.7k? If u have the budget, y not choose the best of all. :)
Did the sa just give u the stats when u asked for it?

With your being able to "trade in" your 1.5, I would pick the one that you absolutely love. If it's the most expensive you love, the extra cost will seem well worth it in years to come.

I think she meant she will need to pay 30k after trading in her own ring not pay 30% of the 59k.

Jen, definitely get that one! It's gonna be extraordinary!!

Yup Khol's right!

Sigh... I know... I'm just trying to make sure I'm paying for something that I can really SEE as opposed to numbers that just mark the diamond up... but there is no doubt this one is a performer!!!

I got three diamond certificates pulled (plus have the one for my 1.5 from Tiffany's) and compared them all and there did seem to be such a difference in them that that's why I'd love any opinions from people who study diamonds this closely! I mean my 1.5 is gorgeous to me and throws fire etc... but it did come out as "very good" and I THINK even some "goods"? Definitely a few of the ones I "tested" (the 1.94G, the 2.0G and the 2.21 I coloured one) had a wide range of scores from two goods and two VG's to the all excellents. The 2.21 came out as excellent - the 1.94 was the worst performer. My 1.5 was in the middle and "very good". I guess what I am wondering is amongst all the ladies here with beautiful rings who are SO happy with them (as I am with my 1.5!), how many go to THIS much detail? And is it all semantics at some point or is this 2.0 really worth the price and going "smaller" (it's more expensive than the 2.10 for example) because it will throw that much more fire and light? Like I said, something really made me think it was a beautiful stone but I kind of was more looking at it for size as the VS1/price had made me force myself to put it out of my head... but now that I know WHY it's priced so high I really think it's one special rock!

Currently tearing through my closet/jewelry box to see what I can sell/return to raise a bit more cash in the next 4 weeks... will take that long to get four rings in to see!

I'm having these ones pulled to see in person:
The 2.10 G VS2 (x/vg/x but don't know the exact stats)
The 2.00 G VS1 (the HCA performer!)
The 1.92 G VS2 (triple x, no other stats yet)
A 2.1 - 2.9 G VS2 (no details yet - just something priced between these three)

Lots to think about! I just jumped when I saw what I thought was a big difference in performance... it's on it's way now!

I would see what you can find out about the 2.10 G/VS2 but that one you got the remarkable "Score" on seems to have gotten to you. So keep that in the race. Set it off to the side and then go through the others. When you narrow them all down, pick the one you love the most with your eyes. See what else can get pulled for you. Then go in and see them all at once with the data all there, eliminate any that don't do anything for you in person. Then enter the numbers and see waht kind of score you get. That will help.

Great advice Ame. If you had a 2.10 VS2 that was $4K cheaper than a 2.0 VS1, and the 2.10 was all "very goods" and the 2.0 was "excellents", which would you choose?
