At this point, I'm not sure what other advice can be offered to you. You've been given the names of SAs, good resellers, good times to shop, advice on how to approach SAs.

What other information is it that you are looking for, exactly?....

I'm not looking for any more info... Just sympathy. I'm just keeping up with a discussion that people seem interested in.

According to Michael ******* , he said that the secret to getting your hands on a Birkin is to spend just as much on non-Birkin items. I believe for sure then, you will then get your hands on a Birkin for your wife. I did just that...but incidentally, there was a non-Birkin bag that I wanted and it was $7K. And after a wallet, belt, etc they sold me a Birkin. Indeed, this is a very expensive endeavor - buying $10K worth of Hermes items but given how pricey Hermes is, it is not that difficult. If you've got the extra cash lying around then you always have that route. Get a mutual friend to engage your wife in a discussion of what other Hermes items she lusts for.

Sadly while I am happy to spend 10k on her... 20k is really too much for me. I could stretch it and get her a wallet too but that's really my limit. I'm just being realistic. I wish I could buy her the whole shop and a yacht to store it on but limits are limits.

FYI I have made no mention of trying to buy on this forum, if you read the whole thread I think you will see that I am specifically interested in buying at the boutique.

I have read the entire thread. And you've been given great advice, and there is additional info on the forum about how to get a bag at a store. But it isn't always a quick process, alas. Often when people start threads like this, they are hoping to get a birkin in any way possible. So ... a reminder of the rules for all to read.

So, let me get this straight.... By building a relationship with the SA they might alert me that one is coming in or they might hold one for me? Is that how it works? I'm not really planning on buying anything other than the Birkin.

This is all so complicated!

If you build a relationship with an SA they will absolutely offer you birkins and even hold them for you. Good luck!

Don't be discouraged Nicehubby...you've still got a over a month. If you persevere, you may still get the bag your wife wants! Use the resources you have...like your stylist friends. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Ditto, ask your stylist friends to keep looking for you, it is still entirely possible a Birkin will materialize in time.

If you are wandering down Paris way.... you can always try FSH. Because of the Euro/Aus dollar... I would definitely make the trip to Paris to get another birkin. $13,500 in Australia and about $8,000 converted aud$ by buying in Euro..... so a trip to Paris would be well worthwhile. In fact I am hoping to go next year and pick up another at FSH.

I have to tell you -from my personal experience, if you're only planning on buying a Birkin, they probably won't sell it to you. I've heard of people being lucky and getting their hands on a Birkin without having any relationship with a SA but I think you have to patronize the store and buy other things and show you love Hermes 'the brand' and other products...not just the Birkin or Kelly. Why not buy yourself or your wife some accessories? Like a few ties for yourself or some scarves or small leather goods? If you have zero history of buying anything else, I think your odds of getting a Birkin run pretty low. Good luck!

Really? I realize that if you have a relationship with an SA that your chances of scoring a bag highly increase, especially a particular color/size, etc that you are looking for, but I have never heard that they will flat out refuse to sell a bag that is sitting on the shelf? I just can't imagine what they would say if you asked to purchase it? I have read so many stories on here where buyers have gone into random Hermes stores while on vacation and found their Birkins there, without any previous history with an SA. It's all so confusing!

Good luck to you OP, I truly do hope that you are able to make your wife a very happy woman on her 40th birthday!!

NiceHubby, we are interested in your quest to find the perfect Birkin for your wife's upcoming special birthday and want to be as supportive as we can. Hang in there with your search, and don't let the difficulties of the quest get you down.

Beverly Hills will soon be getting a lot of stock for the holiday season, and you can bet there will be black togo Birkins to choose from. You must, however, keep going back on a regular basis and chatting up Michael, so that you are topmost in his mind when new stock arrives. Remember as well that, unlike other H stores, with BH it's first come first served, so your chances of scoring are much greater if you visit the shop on a frequent basis. While you don't need to purchase $10k worth of goods to get a Birkin at this store, it could only help your case if maybe you did some pre-holiday shopping for your wife or other family members on your Birkin search visits. A scarf and a bracelet (or even a tie or watch for yourself) can go a long way in saying to Michael that you intend to be a serious, long term customer.

I'm not gonna lie, its a little disheartening that you can't *just* get a Birkin. I'm not too keen on the idea of spending money on little trinkets that you don't want, just so you can "impress" an SA enough to buy a Birkin. I realize that H is a luxury brand and they have to maintain a certain image but it just seems like one ridiculous game where you have to jump through hoops just for a purse. Don't get me wrong..I love H and I think their bags are absolutely beautiful and I would love to own a Birkin one day but not if I have to (excuse my language), wh*re myself out to an SA. I personally do not have a lot of money and it would take me months upon months to save up for a single H bag. I feel that if I (or any other nice husband trying to bag a bag for his wife) have the money, and I am a polite, respectful customer I should be given the courtesy of purchasing an H bag if it is available in a first-come first-serve situation. My hats are off to you TPF ladies, for being able to navigate this crazy process in acquiring your dream bags.

NiceHubby - good luck to you. You seem like a wonderful husband.
