Heart shaped diamonds -- what do you ladies think?

I think heart-shaped diamonds can be very charming, depending on how they are set. I would imagine that a heart diamond in a very simple solitaire setting (a la Tiffany-style) would be really unexpected and elegant. However, IMO, if it were set in something really busy with pave and a halo and sidestones, I probably would think it's tacky. Plus, you kinda lose the cool heart-shape if there's lots of blingage all around it. I believe that simple simple simple is key when it comes to setting a heart stone as an e-ring. (plus, you'll save money on the setting so you can get the biggest well-cut heart you can find!)

Someday, I'd love to have a heart-shaped diamond as a solitaire necklace.

To me, I think heart shape solitaire ring is pretty only when the diamond is shaped perfectly as a heart...it's so difficult to find....a plain solitaire ring is classic and gorgeous but I'd like to have some details on my ring...also paving adds a little more bling to the whole thing:yes: Halo setting on heart diamond makes it looks so princesslike...very feminine

a necklace should be nice also...

If you want a heart shaped, get a heart shaped! I would be hard pressed to turn down ANY well cut clear sparkly diamond! I wear a pear solitaire on my right hand. I heard that pears were "outdated" but a sparklie 1 1/2 carat rock never goes out of style in my book!!!

I don't think pear is outdated at all...i think it's one of the classics....well actually to me, all diamonds are classic...I love pear shape too:smile1: so i definitely getcha :graucho:

The whole point of engagement and wedding rings is to symbolize your love and commitment to one another. Your wedding jewelry should absolutely be something that YOU love with all of your heart and soul, and also something that you are proud of and happy to show to others. To make the "right" choice, just listen to your heart, nothing else matters.

Any diamond is beautiful and timeless if the love and meaning behind it is also timeless. Congratulations on your upcoming engagement and on being in a relationship for 6 yrs! We were together for 6 yrs when we got married too. We will celebrate our 10th anniversary next week.

i have always loved hearts, and DH got me my heart shaped E-ring when he asked me to be his DW! He chose it himself..........Its gorgeous and I adore it....................also the fact that its not often seen on the fingers of the engaged, is nice too.......its very plain and in a Tiffany setting..........

Strange.. but I've never considered a heart-shaped diamond. I don't think I like it but then again, I'm not particularly overwhelmed with the round brilliant either even though the RB is a classic. Do you have a larger picture of a heart-diamond? Somehow it seems odd to me... as the shape seems more like "costume jewellery". (no offense) But I think, if you truly love it then definitely go for it! I'm also looking at e-rings too and am thinking about the cushion cut... not quite as 'square' as the princess cut.

An engagement ring is a very personal thing if you want a heart shape then get a heart shape but try klots before you choose. It can be difficult to find a good proportioned one.

Hearts are often more expensive because of the risjk involved when cutting diamonds have a cleavage, which is a point when if stuck can fracture the diamond. Heart shapes & marquise cuts are close to the cleavage so many stones are broken when cut and it may be more fragile in day to day life so you need a setting that will protect it.

Not to put you off just so you are aware of the risks

I was always told that fancy cuts, including hearts are cheaper than rounds, all things being equal. ie price per carat for round with the same specs will be the highest.

And you are correct about being fragile or having weak spots. Diamonds in general do have weak spots and are prone to chipping if not set correctly. eg a princess has weak spots in its corners and they must be protected.
