Heart shaped diamonds -- what do you ladies think?

I like heart shaped rings, but I don't know if I would like it for my e-ring. While I think they are cute, I don't think they're as classic and timeless and other regular cut diamond rings. But you're right these rings are typically more expensive. Like someone previously said, I think this type of ring would have more of a sentimental value.
Good luck with your search, I hope you find something you love!

leelee, chloebabe --> I'm sure shopping for diamond is lots of fun....but only when u CAN afford it!! haha...I guess my time will come as I age....^_^ the idea sounds like too much fun already!!

Oh my goodness, it IS fun! I've always loved clothes and handbags, but it wasn't until a year or so ago that I became posessed by beautiful jewelry.

I was at the jewelry store today to pick up a necklace I was having repaired and I happened to think of you and this thread that you started. They had the prettiest, sweetest heart-haped diamond pendant set in white gold on a white chain in the display case.

Here is mine, Tiffany, 1.07, colour F, and VVS2 or 1, whichever is better, can't remember the name of the better one! Not a great pic but you can kind of see

^^ Very pretty. My first husband gave me a .54 ct heart shaped dimond solitaire for my engagement ring and a .25 ct solitare for another occasion. I did love them both. I still have them. I've been thinking of having the smaller, better quality one set into a necklace for DD who will be 15 in November.

kristie --> I totally agree that the heart shape's a bit cutesy....that's exactly why I started this thread to see what you tPFers think, honestly I don't know how my taste will change in time, but as of now, RB is definitely not one of my favs....if not heart, then I prefer the cushion....

kristie and vivi24 --> also I think ALL diamonds are timeless (cuz they are so pricy....haha) thx for the input...i'll definitely let you know what I decide :)

rosieroseanna --> thank you so much for the pic!!! the ring does look so fabulous I could almost imagine how it would sparkle!!!

adriane --> please post some pics once you get it done...what a lucky DD!!!

awwwww:tender: I'm just so glad you think of me!!!

I think you're right, once I started looking through the jewelry box forum, I just wanna save up for these pretty blings rather than spending on purses:push:

I've been married for 21 years. I've had round, marquise, princess and now back to round. I used to love the heart shapes as well. As people age, their tastes can change dramatically. Mine sure did! Before investing a large amount on a ring, you may want to seriously think about what shape you will love forever.

i hate heart shaped stones. and all heart shaped jewelry. it just seems way too cutesy and juvenile to me. they make me think of grown women that dot their i's with hearts and keep stuffed animals on their beds.

Ali-bagpuss --> Now THAT'S what I call a great mentality!!!!

BigBagLady --> you are absolutely right...That's the thing....It's very difficult, if not impossible to foresee what my taste will be like in the future ((which was exactly why I started this thread, to see whether I should get what I like now or just go with the classics like the RB))....but as many of you ladies in here have told me, there's nothing wrong with having lots and lots of diamonds!! the more, the merrier!!, right? ^_^

Sputnik --> I know what you mean but like I said before that it all depends on the setting of the ring as well, you might need to see the whole ring to come to a conclusion that the ring is cutesy or juvenile as you put it...I wish I have the picture of the ring to show you. Personally I think it's not juvenile at all -- maybe the beauty of it might change your mind so you wouldn't be so harsh on heart shaped diamonds :)

Also please be reminded, I'm only 22 and I don't dot my i's with hearts or stars for that matter :smile1:

Again, Thanks for all inputs!!!

^^^
it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, the only important thing is that you love the ring and enjoy wearing it. i was just giving my opinion since that's what was asked.

i have a heart shaped e ring and it is in a simple setting. it is an attention getter and most people love it. I love it because i rarely see other people with it! sorry i dont have pics though

(visiting from the Chanel forum) precisely since I was thinking of "updating" my e-ring with heart shaped side stones. I have a friend who has the most gorgeous, 3 carat "simple" heart shaped diamond on a chain (necklace). Part of the reason it's so beautiful is the shape of the heart, so I'd advise you to see plenty of heart diamonds before you decide on one. For some reason, they are not that easy to find, even on NYC's 47th street (diamond district).
Go with your heart, pun intended!

Sputnik --> of course I also wanna hear from people who are not fans of heart diamonds to give me a different point of view and I really apprecialte your input...:smile1:

yasjencon2 --> I wish you have the pics....please post some if you can...I'm excited to see the ring!!:wlae:

Aimee3 --> you couldn't be more right!! I saw some heart shaped diamonds that didn't really call out my name...those are the thin tall ones, personally I like the heart to be more fat with the length-to-width ratio of less than 1.

I think heart-shaped diamonds can be very charming, depending on how they are set. I would imagine that a heart diamond in a very simple solitaire setting (a la Tiffany-style) would be really unexpected and elegant. However, IMO, if it were set in something really busy with pave and a halo and sidestones, I probably would think it's tacky. Plus, you kinda lose the cool heart-shape if there's lots of blingage all around it. I believe that simple simple simple is key when it comes to setting a heart stone as an e-ring. (plus, you'll save money on the setting so you can get the biggest well-cut heart you can find!)

Someday, I'd love to have a heart-shaped diamond as a solitaire necklace.
