Heart shaped diamonds -- what do you ladies think?

My hubby gave me a heart shaped diamond as a birthing gift after my first son was born. It is sparkly in my opinion, and needless to say, it brings me joy everytime I wear it. You should get and wear what makes you happy.

I wouldn't make a large investment in a heart shaped diamond. I think I would lose interest in it, unless it had specific sentimental attachment..like Savannah, in that case I would treasure it.

I don't think its resale would hold, but then again diamonds are not an investment..they never resell for their true value.

I am not a fan of heart shaped diamonds, but I am not of fan of round either, but you have to go for what you love. I am more of a square shape diamond girl. Just make sure that it is something that you will not get sick of overtime.

thx fenix, isus, leelee and joeyjo for your sensible advice, I really appreciate it....:girlsigh:

to tell you the truth, I don't know what cutting that I really like cuz i don't own a serious single stone ring (with major rock that's more than 1 carat) just yet.

after looking through the pictures posted here i think i like cushion cut with halo setting but not many jewellers carry them cuz it's not big here where I live...

savannah, guccimamma --> it'd definitely have a specific sentimental attachment to it since the ring will be my engagement ring:tender: so I'm not worried too much about resale value....i was just wondering about the pricing that's all

thanks everyone for all your kind inputs

I think shopping for diamonds is a lot of fun! There are so many different settings and cuts that I hadn't even realized.

Last weekend I actually saw a beautiful diamond ring with an oval cut center stone and two heart-shaped diamonds on either side of it. It was just exquisite!

I must say, though, that in the past year I have become interested in nice jewelry and it has become an obsession....I can't get enough. It is even stronger than my passion for handbags.

Actually, depends on the diamond. If you are a smart diamond shopper, the diamond will appreciate in value by a lot over time, although they are usually diamonds with not so many flaws and are cut in traditional shapes like brilliant, princess, etc etc.. and are certified.

If you buy the cheap kind which can barely pass for a diamond then of course it won't have much resale value.

also, until you really try them on, you never know what shape is going to best suit your finger. You need a fabby day out at the jewellers trying on lots of different cuts and styles and see which one sings to you lol :)

I have heart shaped diamond studs, each is about .75. Which is perfect for me. I love them and wear them all the time. I've had them for years. I think a heart shaped ering would be gorgeous.

I'm not fond of heart shaped diamonds. I prefer a more classic look with emerald or cushion cuts.

One thing to keep in mind when thinking about buying a "fancy" cut is that there are no standards for what constitues an "ideal" cut "fancy" cut stone. This can make it a little tricky to purchase them (and it is the cut that makes the stone sparkle the most).

i think the heart shaped diamond is a pretty good concept. i mean it's unique and different from the traditional round, however those are the most common ones people get. but i dig the idea of having it for an e-ring. it's all personal opinion and whatever you decide to get we'll all support you here, you know it! ;) but i'd love to see someone here post a pic if the have a heart shaped diamond.

Sometimes the issue isnt about the diamond not appreciating, but rather your ability to sell it at fair market value. imo

leelee, chloebabe --> I'm sure shopping for diamond is lots of fun....but only when u CAN afford it!! haha...I guess my time will come as I age....^_^ the idea sounds like too much fun already!!

oh donna --> I'd really love to see some pics...sounds like u have a great fun pair of studs

claudette2 --> i don't know whether I should compare the heart shaped to the RB of the same carat weight in term of how they sparkle....but the ring i saw just sparkles like there's no tomorrow!!! I wonder how do you compare exactly??!!??

aquablueness --> that's what I think....what else to represent love better than a heart shaped diamond as an e-ring...it's just so romantic!! ^_^

Please don't flame me but....I think heart shaped diamonds are too "cutesy" and would look better for someone in the high school age range....not as an e-ring. Are you still going to love the heart shape when you are celebrating your 20th wedding anniversary? Round brilliant diamonds are almost always the most expensive cut of stone made when comparing it to an equal quality stone of a different cut. You would most likely never get tired of looking at a round brilliant because it is the epitome of classic, elegant, and timeless.

That being said though, if a heart is really what you truly believe will make you feel happy each and every time you look at it, then go for it. The ultimate decision is up to you and your SO. Go for whatever you will love for years and years to come....not what you love just "in the now." Good luck on your search and let us know what you decide! :p
