MT!!!! DO NOT put the heated pad under the feather bed!!! :faint:

Matress, then feather bed, then cover/protector if you have one, then fitted sheet. Heating pad on top.

Or you could go European style and have the feather bed (with its own duvet/cover) next to your body.

Withhold payment? Cry? My dad had guys here finishing my shower on the day I had surgery because I cried and freaked out about being medically unable to take baths after the surgery. He also had them doing other finish work because he wanted to get paid. In true contractor fashion he waited until the very last minute. I still haven't paid him though :p I did a 203k loan so I'm still waiting for my final disbursement to pay him and payoff everything I floated on my credit cards.

I think I will stop by Whole Foods tonight and look for dryer balls, they seem Whole Foodsie. I'm a few days into making my bed. The sheets have confounded me, but so has getting the feather bed in its cover w/o killing myself and the order that things go on. I have all this silly cold weather gear that I know nothing about. Does it go heated mattress pad, feather bed, fitted sheet? Martha would be so disappointed in me.

Oh those poor castrati dryers...I thought Italy outlawed castration at the end of the 19th Century? :roflmao:

Seriously though, Monkeytail, I was always told that electric mattress pads are NOT supposed to be healthy, BUT when you are freezing at night, that is even more detrimental to your health. (Although I remember reading somewhere that it gives off electromagnetic radiation..)

We chose the electric mattress pad over an electric blanket in order to put the heat beneath us. Putting it under the feather bed provides even better warmth.

TBH, I don't use it often but when I do I turn it on about an hour before DH goes to bed on the "pre-heat" option...(he is always tucked in before me) then turn it off when I go to bed. I don't like leaving it on all night because I'm worried about fires. But the bed stays really warm because of the body heat, and the down blanket we use to cover ourselves.

Soooo, are do you have a down blanket or a featherbed mattress topper? If it's a mattress topper, it goes on top of the mattress, the electric mattress goes on over that, then comes the fitted sheet, then comes the top sheet, then goes whatever you opt to cover yourself with. At least that's what I do because I like a cold bedroom and DH wants it at sauna temp.

I sort of pull down one corner of the top layers and slide in so I don't unmake the bed completely because it's really difficult for me to use my arms and hands during the winter.

But, my DS seems to have come up with the perfect solution to making his bed. He sleeps inside his winter weight sleeping bag on top of the bed.

Note: My kids got DH & me a heated massage mattress pad for Chanukah/Anniversary...problem is it's too small for both of us and I can't pry it out from under his deadweight, snoring, self so guess who gets to use it?

Break over..back to work :hugs:

MT - does the feather bed fold at all? can you use the duvet trick where you're supposed to kind of fold it I think in 3rds and then in thirds again, stick it in the cover and unfold it in there? Not describing it well but I think I saw that in the book Home Comforts.

I need to get off my butt to get to a drs appt before work. Not looking forward to either thing - realized that work stress was actually making me feel panicky :P.

What an amazing group of strong & supportive & funny & intelligent & incredible ladies!!!! . . . So much going on for so many of you!
So sorry I haven't been around much lately, but just wanted to say love to you all!:smile1:

ITA, Luciana!! Great attitude :hugs:
MT, although I am phased/thrown/baffled by something every single day (why do students not run spellcheck? how do I stop my cat from eating cashmere? does DH just not *see* the trash is full on his days? why are breakfast burritos addictive?) :D try the dryer ball, but the old standby is to throw a can of tennis balls in there.

ETA: But take the balls out of the can! :roflmfao:

OK - I am officially confused. Almost typed confuzed. When do you use "fazed" and when do you use "phased". I see "phased" being used all the time and I think I missed something. I'm trying to keep up and not seem fuddy-duddy.

I have also been recently surprised by hearing the word "foyer" used on US decorating tv shows. Canadians pronounce it "foy'eh" - I guess it's the french way but the only thing you'll hear in BC (far away from Quebec) is "foy'eh". I hear it being called a "foy-er" on US shows. DS and I go squirrely when we hear "foy-er".

HI Temo!!!

Cho - I'm glad you have a plan going on. And that the moms stepped in. Still wish I could come over and make some loud noise at the building site. I kinda miss that part of our reno.

Faze is a verb whose meaning is to disconcert, disturb, daunt, overwhelm..it is used to express embarrassment, confusion, concern, to bother or disturb composure. It usually has a negative connotation ie.:

"Even though I know my ex-boyfriend will be at the wedding, I won't let it faze me." "Please do not be fazed by the number of files you have to go through".

Phase is a noun. It means period of time, or a particular time. But it also can be used as a verb because in a sense that conveys a gradual promotion, demotion, introduction etc..as in:

"He knew his days were numbers because they were gradually phasing him out"...or "Phase 1: Gerber introduces baby's first solid food"...or "It's just a phase she's going through, she'll get over it".

HTH...Just a quick and dirty explanation. I will defer to those whose wisdom and knowledge exceed mine.

On another note, forgive my immodesty but I'm gonna toot my own horn. I've been getting major agita over the past few months from this student. I just received a text from my post grad student who received a perfect score on the paper he's had to work on the entire semester. It would have been far easier for me to write it for him because I think I've aged yet another 10 years over the past two months. I earn my keep though.

ETA: Ooops Jenni..I'm sorry about the phase/faze thang..maybe I'm wrong???:shame::rolleyes:

When asked a question by a Canadienne..it is my duty to find the best answer for her..so perhaps this might help:

Yup. The PhD in English is a terrible speller :D Let me remind everyone that I'm a CREATIVE writer. Of course it's "fazed"... "phase" is a noun, or "phasing" is a verb as in "we're phasing out any pressure on jennirane to be grammatically correct when posting in supportive online communities". :push:

FoyERRRR (scrunch up your face when you say it) is a total Americanism. I'm lost on so many of these things b/c I lived in a Commonwealth country for so long. Maroooon/marone... labratory/laboratory... ugh. On good days, though, traveling in Europe, I can pass for a flappy head! :D

I've seen the word "phased" used more and more often when I thought it should be fazed so that I thought that maybe it had become more accepted. Y'know how language morphs and changes over time? I thought I was being left behind in my dotage. I is old. :p

Ok - so both foy'errrrr and foy'ay are accepted. Thanks gingey! I love how language and pronunciation can be so different. We live really close to the US border but some words are pronounced completely differently. Roof (some americans say "ruff" and canadians say "roooooof"), route (I hear americans say it like ra-out or rout but canadians say rooooot) etc. But then we say "router" as if it rhymes with "outer". And then there is the continual spell check problems. Favour, behaviour, colour - microsoft word does not like them spelt that way.

sally, since we're in a can-us household, dh and i often laugh about these things. he definitely says 'ruff' but, oddly has taken to foy-ay (maybe it's the architect-speak?) he teases me on a-boot.

i still spell with the 'u' but, am slowly changing.

people have caught me saying 'eh' (i didn't even realize i used it!) and once in a while, a minnesota donchaknow escapes dh's mouth.

reminds me of the time that we asked a tourist info person in philly the way to the rodin (rowdan) museum. he laughed and said, "oh, you mean the road-in museum. so many people mispronounce the name." :)

Yes my dear..I know the sounds of "aboooot" and "rooof" well. Route (root) vs route (rowt) I pronounce it root ..DH says rowt IDKY since we are both born in Brooklyn where it's probably pronounced "roohtuh" (one syllable not two) or something like that.

Now to make your life even more miserable..darling Canadienne...

Spelt vs spelled= past tense of verb form "to spell"..:roflmfao: both are correct..spelt is more commonly used in the UK, Australia, and of course "Oh Cananda"...:hugs: however, spelt is also a wheat.

Spelled=simple past tense form or is it past participle..

Eecchh..:wtf: who gives a shiitake..at this point I am so sick and tired of teaching/editing/correcting everything from grammar/content and more in scholarly research papers in Business/Sociology/History/Art History...now I have to contend with the English/Creative Writing/Comp Lit essays and papers..not just in English but also in Hebrew..egads...Sallyca..shoooooot me now.

Just to keep on topic I am fazed about my toilet...does that even make sense!? LOL

MT - I've been trying to fix it myself for days and it's just getting worse! I even watched several youtube videos! Believe me, the last thing I want is to pay this one company in my town that does plumbing, they are thieves!!! But the problem is that the toilet is leaking, who knows where? The water fills up and disappears, I don't see it going to the toilet, so I'm worried...then it keeps filling and filling with water non stop...which is probably going to cost me a lot of money in the next water bill...for that reason alone I figured I should just suck it up and call the plumbers. I shut the water off now, but it was leaking for several days so I'm terrified of my next water/sewer bill. I'll be fazed! ;)
