Thanks everyone for the travel wishes!

Big hugs Lauri! I'm sorry you are going through SO much! I also am glad you got to see your family for Thanksgiving and I suppose every family does have their token wackadoo (thanks MT!) cousin. I was worried about you and am really glad to see you post. :hugs::hugs::flowers:

Question for my HAWTIES who have cooking skills. My mom wants a food processor. I got her a Kitchenaid Mixer last year, what should I get her this time around? She has a bday a two weeks after Christmas and I got her a WElles already, but need to step it up. I'm her only hope anymore. (No offense to my Dad, he's great and a bit more flush than me, but let's face it, he's a guy).

Mish, all joking about the Cuisinart aside, I ADORE mine. It is powerful enough to handle pizza dough, and slices/dices/mixes anything (mine's black, not stainless):
http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DLC...3A0Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1291784561&sr=8-2

We also have a couple of mini-processors, and this is one we love... it has an immersion blender (boat motor) attachment, as well as a whisk attachment. You just can't chop a ton at a time:

If you're worried about a processor "matching" her stand mixer, I'd say just think about how much she'll use it, how heavy-duty does it need to be? Kitchen Aid used to be the industry standard for home cooks, but a few years ago they switched from Hobart motors (professional) to someone else, and there have been problems. That's why we went with a Cuisinart stand mixer even though it's butt-ugly (really... looks like an alien). But if you think she'll mainly use it for light work, and matching is important to her (especially if she keeps her larger appliances out on the counter) then it's always nice to stick w/the same brand.

Glad to see you back 2 many!!! We missed you!!

I'm completely divorced btw!!! :D

I'm going insane with the short term psychology class I'm taking. It's not hard, but there's so much to do in such a short time. It's 10 weeks in 3. The day I finish submitting everything my mom will be here, so I'm looking forward to the end of next week! :)

cho - moves always suck. I'm sorry things are so stressful. don't you wish the critters could help? I think you should go find a vintage trapeze coat and be all glam for winter.

lauri - it's so good to see you back. :yahoo: OMG the cousin. that sounds like a movie. In my family we do have the aunt who goes around telling people what stuff she wants from their house when they die.

jenni - glad you are feeling better without mugging freshman. I sometimes think there is a sinus monster, a Cthulhu-ish unnameable horror that is capable of untold destruction actively trying to escape from my sinuses. Fabulous link - I love a man in heels and the actor is was singing is so good.

mish - hope all the flights go well. that's a lot of bouncing around to get back to Reno.

MT - the rainbow gloves are super cute.

GB - I wish you had photos of your fabulous cooking but with your writing I feel like I can practically smell the food.

OK..can't sleep yet..waiting for the med to kick in..hate those damn meds..but when I read Lauri's post I realized I shouldn't kvetch.

Jenni :hugs: thanks...and...

My family loves zucchini latkes...I sprinkle a bit of Italian Seasoned breadcrumbs on or in them as well (depending on my mood) right before they get flash fried.

I sometimes mix a bit of peanut oil into the olive or grapeseed oil (and butter if I am feeling particularly lavish) to get a really hot "fry" without burning.

We usually have them Saturday night with some crisp white wine..or beer..

Sweet potato latkes seasoned with cumin, nutmeg tumeric, mustard seed, chili, ginger and curry (one version of Garam Masala)dipped in a mango chutney yogurt sauce. YUMMY! (I usually make up my own masala mix depending on what I'm cooking..ditto with beer.

I want to share one of my favorite Indian recipe sites..courtesy of my mentor and Professor Munshi..http://www.indianfoodforever.com/indian-spices.html

Enjoy! :hugs:

ETA: Mothbeast.. the food gets eaten so quickly I don't have time to take photos..plus I'm usually whirlwinding through my kitchen and I'm deathly afraid of dropping my cellphone or camera into the batter. My kids help me cook too..I know my older DD has a few photos..I'll see if I can get her to help me post them. I'll do my best to take photos when I can.

Thanks you guys. It feels good to be able to type again. I've really missed hanging out with all of you. I'm so glad I'm feeling more up to it.
I forgot a shout out to jc. Can't believe I forgot her. I've enjoyed all of her reveals so much. So wishing I had a "touch" screen where you could actually touch the leather!!:graucho:
And congrats on your divorce being finalized Luc. I hope the ex doesn't make things too difficult.

The ex is being good these days...he still has the most stupid jokes and is very egocentric, but besides that he's been ok to deal with. He moved his gf to his house in my town...which really sucks, since she's the one he was with for the past two years (that I was married to him and didn't have a clue), but at least when she's around she keeps him busy and he leaves me alone...she went to spend Thanksgiving with her family in Las Vegas, so she's been gone for a couple of weeks...she'll be back next week though.
I still haven't figured out how to deal with her yet, I just pretend she doesn't exist...she's so strange...they are so strange together...I don't know...I don't like to waste my time thinking about them, but every time I see them I have to wonder for a bit, what the heck are they doing together...oh well...I'm just happy I'm not her every time I see them. :)

2many!: So glad to hear from you! Wish we could make it all better. Truly admire your strength. :hugs:Welcome back!

Glad you had family w/ you for the holiday, but damn, what a weird cousin. But who doesn't have one?! :p

Some of my cousins are literally crack whores and they sold most of my familys' SSNs. I don't talk to them. Like the real use of literally, not the wrong use of literally.

I got so excited earlier that I forgot a lot of what I wanted to say.

Cho! :hugs: It'll be over soon. You'll be so relieved to be in the new house, this will all seem like a distant memory. Can you blow off work for a couple of days?

Mishka, good luck travelling with Chloe. It sounds like Little Miss C is already a seasoned traveller. I got this food processor back in 2005 and I absolutely love it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002MH3M4/ref=oss_product There's probably newer ones now though. I haven't shopped for any of that stuff in so long that I know nothing about what's good anymore.

There's more too, but I keep forgetting who all I want to reply to. So much going on with HHHotties after a big lull in activity.

I think I caught a little of what Mib had a couple of days ago. I'm hoping it clears up by tomorrow morning because I'm pretty sure I'm out of sick days. I'm not even close to getting a good attendance award. Maybe I took too much tylenol with not enough food.

I haven't been into the non-HH thread in a little while, I'm afraid to go in, it seems like there's been a lot of posts. I bought an elliptical last week back before I created new bills for myself by sucking at driving.

My insurance company has been amazing and so helpful and easy to deal with. I'm scared that they are going to drop me.

I have a housework SOS. Every time I dry my sheets they end up wadded up in a little ball. No matter what I do they end up winding themselves into this crazy wrinkle producing ball after a few minutes in the dryer. I've tried different speeds, temps, steam, no steam, less stuff in the dryer, more stuff in the dryer, non-bedding stuff in with them. The same thing happens with blankets. I'm at a loss. I'm not used to doing them in a front loading dryer. I'm sure at least one of you have-it-all-together-never-phased-knows-what's-up wonder women has the magic answer. I really don't want to line dry or iron my sheets. Even if I wanted to, it wouldn't happen, they are too unwieldy.

Whoa - I missed a lot tonight while I was out drinking baileys shooters in little chocolate cups.

I'm a little foggy so will probably miss a lot.

Lauri - sooo awesome to hear from you - we were getting worried. You are an inspiration to me - and of course, in the midst of all your recovering, you manage to tell us a hilarious tale - love the cousin story. And I love gingey's suggestions. My mom's cousin used to come to all our family occasions but she is a total b'''h. When asked to bring stuff to a potluck meal she'd bring about 3 unpeeled carrots. Once she came up to me and said, "gosh, you've put on weight." NICE. I was too stunned to respond but I should have said, "Gosh - you've got a lot more wrinkles and grey hair than you did last year. And I see some facial hair. Perhaps you should get that looked at."

So I told my mom that if she invited the cousin to any thanksgiving or Christmas meals I wasn't going to be there. Mom was looking for a way out of inviting her so it worked out well for her to just blame me. At least we have less angst with the holidays. Hope the cousin enjoys eating her carrots on her own. I don't care - really - life is way too short to humour idiots.

Mishka - hope your travel day goes okay.

MT - I have no suggestions for you. I have a front-loading washer and dryer and I don't think that has ever happened. Things can get a bit twisted up in the washer but usually the dryer fluffs all that out. Have you tried the dryer balls??? Would that help???

Cho - honey. Deep breath. Just deal with one thing at a time if possible. You will survive this. If you have a mover booked and the date is firm then go ahead with that and get the furniture put in a few rooms at the new place for now. Book a hotel for you and Irod. That way you have a place to sleep that is away from the kerfuffle. Hire a cleaning crew to get your old place shipshape and ready. Call in some favours from friends and family. If I was there I would come over and raise some hell with the builders then we could have some tea together. Focus on the most important thing - your health and growing the mini-cho.

I had to get our house ready for sale when I was 8 months pregnant and it made me go into early labour. So git your feet up and yer ass in a chair. Think serene, madonna-like thoughts. Drink tea.
