Gingey - wish I could help with the correcting. Will life in Florida be more peaceful?

If I can downshift to a different speed, I think so. What I do know is that I think I can start over and perhaps not take on as many students. I find it difficult to turn down work at this point in time for many reasons. I also find it difficult to say no to someone whom I know I can teach skills that are necessary, especially the younger student (pupil). Even more so, when I've already worked with the older sibling, somehow I wind up working with the rest of the brood..and often I wind up working with a parent who is going for a higher degree for whatever reason.

However, it is taking its toll. What I believe I will be doing is phasing out the tutoring while still speaking at seminars and parent groups. I don't know if I can stop advocating for/mentoring students with LDs/PDs but again, knowing my temprament I think I will probably continue on a much more limited schedule.

I really, really, really hope, that I can get a blog started early in 2011 and perhaps get enough people interested in what I have to say and ratchet everything else down. Even though we are frugal, it's really expensive to live in NYC no matter what I do to keep expenses down. I know we can live the same or even a better/more leisurely lifestyle for a lot less money.

DH & I both want a more leisurely life and he in particular, doesn't want the usual frenzy. But I know it will take time. I'm hoping I can sit by a pool, read, post, communicate with friends and not feel as much of a time crunch as I do now..shopping, cooking, cancer support group leading, obligations, kids, mom, students, husband, health, finances and whatever spanner life throws into the works just to make it that much more "fun"....it's exhausting.

TBH, I'm guilty of creating much of the situation, especially my workload. I thought I'd be able to cut down a bit..but it's sort of like whack-a-mole. I know I do it to myself..but when I move, no one will know me so I can be a selfish byatch and not care as much. KWIM?

Thanks for asking, Sally love:hugs:

Time to put up supper..and then off to work. Hasta la vista.

Just to keep on topic I am fazed about my toilet...does that even make sense!? LOL

MT - I've been trying to fix it myself for days and it's just getting worse! I even watched several youtube videos! Believe me, the last thing I want is to pay this one company in my town that does plumbing, they are thieves!!! But the problem is that the toilet is leaking, who knows where? The water fills up and disappears, I don't see it going to the toilet, so I'm worried...then it keeps filling and filling with water non stop...which is probably going to cost me a lot of money in the next water bill...for that reason alone I figured I should just suck it up and call the plumbers. I shut the water off now, but it was leaking for several days so I'm terrified of my next water/sewer bill. I'll be fazed! ;)

Mine has been doing that for a while. They didn't flush the lines properly after installing it so I need to flush the grit out of the fill gasket. I just turn the water to the toilet off when I'm not using it because I'm not strong enough in both arms to deal with it right now, I'm low class like that. If the water is just flowing and you've checked the flapper, the water level float thingie, and made sure the refill line is in the right place it is probably the gasket (from what I know). I think the super expensive version of the entire fill assembly is like $20-30 if you go after market. It sounds like you've been reading up and arming yourself with knowledge, so hopefully that'll keep them from reaming you too bad. I'm a nut about not calling in repair people. The plumber wanted $250 to hook up my ice maker. My buddy and I did it for $30 (I also fed him and his wife tacos). I learned a few plumbing tricks in the process too.

Thanks for all the bedding advice. To be honest, I think I'm going to be roasting and hate it. I sleep really warm, but I can't stand getting into a cold bed, and my feet are made of ice. The electric mattress pad seemed like a good idea because it is warmer down by the feet and seemed like it wouldn't be as warm and heavy as an electric blanket. I think I can just turn it on before I go to bed to get my bedding all toasty and then turn it off when I get in (like Gingey). I've also got a space heater that I have programmed to turn on for an hour before bedtime and an hour before I wake up. Then I've got the giant feather bed and a down comforter. It was 40 or 50 a few weeks ago, now it is back up to 70, but I think it might get cold again. I've also been icing my shoulder when I go to sleep, so it makes me shivery until the ice pack unfreezes, but I think I need to switch from ice to heat soonish and the mattress pad seemed good for that. I have the cold weather package in my car and just use the seat warmers when my shoulder is achey instead of messing with heat packs, I'm in the car for over an hour a day, I might as well make it useful time :D

Speaking of the car, I just got the estimate. $16k and 3-4 weeks. The roof is all jacked up and super complicated, so it has to be sent to the dealership for that. One cool thing I learned though is that BMW keeps track of all the parts used on each individual car so you just order replacements by VIN and they know exactly what to send(I was worried about getting the wrong door handle because I have the one that you just touch it and it locks/unlocks the car). I guess they are kind of like Apple and you have to get all the parts from them, there aren't any after market alternatives. I'm glad for that because even though I'm sure it is more expensive, I've been to the factory and seen how precise they make everything, it is pretty insane. I keep hearing from everyone that has seen the car how lucky I am to not be seriously injured.

I love all of the plumbing talk. I am the plumber extraordinaire here... plunging, snaking, taking apart the trap, etc.

But just like you, Luc, I can't fix the toilet in the boy's bathroom! It is driving me bonkers, but I just can't waive the white flag to call a licensed plumber yet.

MT - I went over to my other bathroom and compared both water levels and parts to see what was off....so yeah, I did check the water refill line, so it's probably the gasket. I thought about changing it myself, but I'm not brave enough and I'm so impatient when it comes to put certain things together that I don't think I'll be doing a good job. Unlike you though Jen, I'm waiving the white flag! LOL I've spent the past three days stressing out over it and fighting with it until late at night missing a lot of sleep and study time over a toilet! I had enough! They didn't come today though, so hopefully tomorrow.
I've been doing the same thing MT, just turning the water on and off all the time. It's in my master bathroom so the noise was really getting to me.
I did kill the spiders, got rid of mice, painted DD's room, cleaned up all of the leaves and pulled all of the weeds off the yard though, so I'm ready to let someone else do this job for me! ;-)

Wow you all are a handy bunch. :)

I'm so excited that it's Wednesday already I am ready for the weekend. Tomorrow the office building I work in has its annual holiday party with real food and drinks. I think that will get me through the day.

I need to finish holiday shopping. It's tough because Amazon has started to use USPS for prime and it's a horrible meeting of two large faceless corporations. My first package shipped this way is missing and I'm using my tpf skills to fight for an early refund. The tracking number doesn't work at all. I wonder if that would count as no proof of shipping for a chargeback.

All this talk of duvets has me wanting bed. Night hotties.

Luc, congratulations on becoming your own woman again, it has to feel so good to finally get to this point after all you've been through. Go ahead and call a plumber, sometimes you just have to give in and pay. I always worry about taking the toilet apart cause I'm just sure it'll get dropped and broken. We only have one in our house so I want to keep it happy :p

I love our heated mattress pad, it's so nice to get into bed and it's warm and snuggly! Yes, we do get cold here in Florida, it's already been in the low 30s at night which usually doesn't happen til Jan or Feb. I turn it up for the bed to be warm then turn it way down when I get in bed while my hubs keeps it set at 'roast'

My favorite incorrectly spelled word is "pique" spelled by a lot of people as "peak" which after thinking about it is sort of accurate in an associative way.

wow. hhotties got skills!!! i'm even afraid to use draino because i've heard that toilets can explode while using it?!! my only tool is the plunger. :D good luck, jwhit and luc!

the neighbor to the right is a hoarder and last summer, her critters found their way to our brownstone. omg. i had nightmares. i know that for a house that's over a hundred years old, they're bound to be somewhere, but i didn't want to see them! it took a few weeks to get rid of them and now, i'm hyper-vigilant at making sure all holes are sealed.

as for warmth, it's been cold here in nyc. we have a huge fluffy down comforter and of course, dh is like a sauna at night. toasty.

mothbeast, there's a 'received too late' refund/return reason for amazon. they usually give me my refund within a day of receiving the package, so they're swift. good luck with the shopping, especially since you have to ship your stuff out. i just shipped ours this week. ooof. 3 trips to the fedex store down the street. i was too cheap to pay for pick-up.

I've also found this to be true about amazon. especially with text books. Contact them they are normally very easy to work with.

I'm done holiday shopping... totally completed and shipped! :yahoo:

I am impressed Lu!

I am 99% done with my shopping and 50% done with the actual giving (I have 4-5 Christmases during the season due to multiple families, etc.).

I am so stressed and freaking out about work I just want to die. If I get called into work this weekend I will probably do something drastic and bad.

So if you don't see me around - you may need to sell of my bag collection for me to bail me out of jail.
