Have You Ever Returned A Used Bag?

Your "not minding" contributes to the mind-set that it is okay and perpetuates the problem. You can make that choice for yourself, but it should not be made for others nor encouraged. It is unfair to expect consumers to pay full price for items that someone has taken home and used and then simply grown tired of.

I think there are two issues here. The returned physical goods and the action of returning. If someone buys something just to try it out and basically plans on returning later, or someone wears something for years and then returns it, then yes, it bothers me. Not necessarily the returned goods itself, but such unethical behavior does.

As for the goods itself, it simply doesn't bother me unless it's obviously used and will continue not to bother me. But of course I only make that choice for myself.

ETA: Just realized I never answer OP's question: Nope. I usually don't even remove tags until I am very sure I will keep it. Let alone wear it full out.

I don't get the impression that the OP was referring to cases like this. Most people on this thread agree that if an item is defective, certainly the retailer/boutique should replace or repair the item (and NOT put it back on the shelf for resale).

In response to the above, I was not referring to anything, I simply responded to the question in the title whether I ever returned a used bag, just mentioned cases as everyone else did too. I "get" what is being referred to here in the title which is why I mentioned the example of someone returning a bag obiously badly worn out from use which like you I also find disgusting as I have mentioned in my previous post.

To protect honest customers I think perhaps the return policy in Europe is better in a way, well at least as far as designers go, they will take something back in most cases if defective but not a worn item. I think this "no return" policy ensures that people really think about what they want to get and perhaps people do not impulse buy as often? I would certainly hate to get someone's returned merchandise not to say it cannot happen here.

Another issue that really worries me is what if someone returns a fake to the store and then I get that? Not likely I know but I once had to exchange a bag I got at Burberry and they did not look at the merchandise I returned at all which means that I could have returned a used bag or a "good" fake, no? Maybe this is paranoid but it is something that could theoretically happen.

I would only return an used bag, if it had a defect. If I buy a bag online, and I don't care for it in real life, I will return it Unused. I can't condone returning used bags on a whim. And the thought that you could be buying someone's returned fake is horrible. Makes me think I will scrutinize any bag I buy before I use it.

Never! I bought a Miu Miu bow bag a few years ago and didn't really have time to look at it closely in the store. I saw it in the flattering NM lights, paid and left. Once I got home I saw one of the bows was curling and there was hair and all kinds of lint in the main compartment and I knew it had been used and returned, so I returned it as well. I explained that it looked used, but not by me! Lesson learned: always ask for a fresh one from the stock room.

Never have and never will. It's not fair to the next person and I wouldn't want to buy a used bag at a full price either. Only if there's a defect, like already mentioned, never because I change my mind.

I only returned a used bag once because there was a major defect. It was a Fossil bag from Nordstrom which I wore for about 5 days and I noticed that all the stitching on top of the flap had completely come undone. It was awful. I actually posted a thread about it here and people were shocked that it happened after only 5 days. I brought it back to Nordstrom and they marked it out damaged. I was offered another but I said no because I was so disgusted with the bag and figured it would probably happen again.

I understand what you're saying..

I do not return bags after wearing them which is why I lose so much money due to my ever changing mind. I just sell my unwanted bags on ebay.. and hope that I make most of the cost back. I look at the loss of $ as the price of having a hobby.

ABSOLUTELY! I used and then returned a lovely Prada deerskin after I "lost" my cell phone, compact, and other sundry items. I found them in the handbag between the lining and the deerskin . . . because a seam in the inner pocket had NOT been sewn closed.

I've thought about this myself before as well...I could definitely see it happening, especially at department stores where an associate might not know much about a certain designer.

A while back, I returned a bag that I kept a little over 30 days (which I thought was the store return policy...apparently not); however, I hadn't used it--it was still tagged and in its dustbag. I brought it back with the receipt, thinking maybe I could get a store credit, but the clerk went ahead and credited my cc.

Only if there was a defect. NEVER because I just changed my mind. I wouldn't return used clothing!
Interesting. I don't see a used bag as used clothing. :thinkin:

I feel bad for whoever bough that bag after her.. a bag that was used for 2 years?!
Returning a used bag purchased two years ago wouldn't even cross my mind. It's inconceivable. And I can't understand why Nordstrom would take it back. :wtf:

Not personally, and I never would. Sorry, but that's just foul! :rtr:
However, I had one sent to me from Bloomies that CLEARLY had been used a lot and returned. There were cracker crumbs in the inside zippered pocket, lipstick marks on the lining, pen marks. Whoever the byotch was, she clearly used it for a long time and then with no sense of decency, returned it to Bloomies in that condition.

I don't know what was worse though, the bottomfeeder that returned it or Bloomies for reselling it in that condition.

TBH, I can't relate to such a strong reaction. To me, a used bag is a used bag. Dirty underwear is foul, kwim?

In this case, I think Bloomies is more of a byotch than the person returning the bag. For whatever reason (that's another thread...), sometimes some people try to get away with this kind of thing, and IMO it's up to the retailers to protect other customers by not accepting returns of used or damaged bags and, if they accept them, by not putting them back on shelves at new-bag prices.

Actually, I don't think the OP was referring to any case in particular. OP just asked "Have you ever returned a bag you have used once or more? Please explain." Seems like an anecdotal-type thread
.

The issue, as I read it, is that someone buys a bag, uses it to their leisure and returns the bag expecting a refund or a new bag. Not because it's defective. In a word: FRAUD. In my words: sleezy, dishonest, foul, disgusting, low-class, rude, and generally a bottom-dwelling scumbag (pun fully intended) with no decency.

Doesn't matter if it's "obvious" or not. And it's not difficult to tell if a bag has been used or not. And even the major stores have been known to put used bags right back on the shelf.

It's a completely unethical practice, both by the returnee and any store who re-stocks the bag at full price.

I agree, if the store puts it on display as a new bag listed a new-bag prices.

If someone wants to "try out" a bag, then they should avail themselves of a rental service. The department stores are not in the rental business.

While I wouldn't want to pay new-bag price for a used bag, I can accept that others wouldn't mind if the bags are in like-new shape. To each his own.

It does and has happened.

Have you ever returned a bag you have used once or more? Please explain.

No ... if I'm unsure about it, I'll keep the tags on it and keep trying it on at home until I decide. I would never return a bag that I've already worn out ... I just think that's so rude. Only exception is if there was a defect with the bag ... but to return just because I changed my mind after using it, that's just so bad. Anyone who returns an obviously used bag (no defects, just changed their mind) to the store is definitely someone with no class ... that's just disgusting. I rarely return anything ... I always take a day to think about it before buying it (or I put it on hold till the end of the day).

Would never return anything used. I once received a bag in the mail from Anthropologie and it had kids' toys in the bottom! They were bulky puzzle and block pieces, something that someone should have noticed before sending it back out to a new customer. I brought it back to the store and showed them how it arrived, and they just shrugged, removed the toys, and put it back on the floor.

I bought a bag from Nordstrom and carried it for one day. I had kept the tags and receipts.
It was a Cole Hahn bag, and although I thought I would love it, I didn't. The design of that the bag was useless and dysfunctional for me and my needs.
I asked if I could do an exchange and the handbag/accessories dept. had no problem with that. I had kept the bag in pristine condition.
Lipstick marks and crumbs in a new bag is disgusting.
I've bought bags that had obviously been tried on or carried, but were in new condition, and were final sale priced. Usually these bags were returns from online sales.
