Finally got my bag! 18 total days since my order. Along with a $101 custom fee. :roflmfao::death::pokey:

Any update on yours?

How should I put this? Congrats on receiving your item but so sorry you were hit by a $101 custom fee (that's a big amount). I called up our Central Mail Exchange Center (in the city) to follow up on my item and I was glad I was handled by a good-natured customer service employee over the phone. She personally went to customs office (just within their vicinity) to check and she called me back and said that my item has finally gone through customs and will be sent to our local post office here in the province. I should be receiving it by Friday (tomorrow is holiday -- Chinese New Year) or latest Monday of next week. To my excitement, I forgot to ask if I got hit with tax. But at least I know my item was not lost. Whew! Thank God! :)

I just hope we won't go through this same ordeal next time we buy overseas. Good luck to all! :)

I ordered a $300+ bag from Brandoff and two bags from Elady, one $800 and the other over $1k. I didn't have to pay duty tax and I got all the bags in less than a week after I ordered. They were all in and out of customs in less than a day and delivered the following afternoon.

Someone was asking this question on another thread - I've been lucky so far, too.
I bought a LV toiletry bag as well as an Hermes bag, both from Japan - and never paid any duty fees.
In neither case were the items marked as gifts.

Finally got mine but got hit with tax duty of about $26! I know it's not as big as $100+ but still for an $87 purchase, it could have been free (I bought a much expensive LV from Japan and I didn't pay any tax!). Anyway, better with tax than lost :)

wow, a tax of $26 for $87 purchase, that's almost 30% tax. a bit too much imo.i bought a cabas mezzo from japan on 02/09 and received ems tracking on 02/10. last update was on 02/12 assuming leaving japan. since then no updates except "origin post preparing shipment" :confused1:. i guess it is somewhere in the US customs or usps. better get cash out to pay tax :shucks: . did you get any updates while your item was in custom.

when you have "origin post preparing shipment" it can still be enrouting from japan into customs. if its in customs, it'll tell you it arrives in customs. GL with your package..

I wonder why some are charged custom fees and some are not, I have purchased 4 items in last month for a total of $2192. Was wondering if its a total amount in a certain that triggers it or just luck of draw. Nothing was marked gift, purchased from Brandoff and eLady and another store Rakuten. And others seem to be charged custom fees. All my packages came through NY customs.

as i scoured the internet for the definition "origin post preparing shipment", most common explanation, arrived in US and probably a delay in custom or usps. so i will keep waiting :wondering, no longer excited and dreading how much i have to pay for a $435 purchase :pout:.

I've purchased 3 items from Japan, (2) bags and a small wallet. Didn't have to pay customs fees on any of the items. I was surprised at how fast shipping was as well. I received one of the bags in 4 days.

finally my cabas arrived after 2 weeks leaving japan. i thought it was held up in customs but the bad weather in ny caused the delay. very happy with the bag and no tax.

Mahina XL, no customers less than1 week shipping
Speedy 25 Epi Black, no customs same shipping time
Be ware of some bags from japan, always ask about mothball or mildew type odor. High humidity creates an odor, and mothballs are in high use there because of. Whenever I inquire about a bag from Japan I ask about odor. But everything has been great! both bags were beautiful! Got my Mahina XL for such a good price and I love her to bits! She had a very faintly detectable odor a few days of fresh air on my deck with some arm&hammer (kept inside her dust bag the whole time) and now she's perfect!

I've gotten many things from Brandoff with the highest item being about $1500 and no fee. It was in and out of custom the same day! And I received the item in 3 days total!
This recent I just got was $950. Stuck in customs for 11 business days with a total of 18 days total. So making the total amount for the bag $1051. Just lovely! But I'm glad this is my last item for a while with the exception of the new Delightful coming out. That's a maybe so I'll have to see it in real life. I think it does vary as I've seen some people buy an item for under $200 and get hit a custom fee.
I'm from Chicago too! Currently, I have 3 packages sent from Japan stuck in customs right now. I paid $207 for one, $350 for another and $217 for the last one. All from different sellers. The $350 handbag has been there for almost 2 weeks now. I've gotten many packages from Japan and never had a problem before. Do you think customs are just getting stricter now?

I just received a Fendi yesterday - seller is brand_jfa - I didn't have to pay any customs duty. I did notice the seller put the value at only 1/3 of the selling price. Love the bag but their packaging was horrid! They didn't stuff the bag at all and put it in double envelope packaging after bubble wrapping. The bag came folded, but luckily did not lose shape. I've gotten Louis and Hermes from Japan from different sellers and haven't paid customs yet on anything -
