Have you been priced out of collecting LV and resent it or do you see current price rising trends as a positive?

Agree with Jaime, I've not bought a new LV bag in years (I have purchased SLGs) due to a combination of the above factors and also I've noticed an increase in quality issues. This may be because people are more aware of the smallest issue now DUE to the price (and increased expectations) or because people are more aware of potential quality issues as a result of information online... but I suspect there has been an increase in quality issues overall *shrugs*

If I'm paying 4-5K for a bag, I'm now looking at Loewe and Celine leather bags, I'm not paying that amount for a trend-driven canvas bag (my personal opinion) and the simple classic styles like the Speedy and Neverfull shouldn't be as highly priced as they are now IMO. I prefer to purchase pre-loved LV, the pricing is more in line with my expectations and I feel more confident in the quality.

The pre-loved market also got a price increase, do you notice it? They are not missing a trick

Funny that you mention Loewe. I was contemplating if I should get loewe puzzle for 4k CAD or spend 2500 CAD for a treated canvas speedy ban 25(well both are LVMH owned anyways). To me neither prices feel justifiable to be honest. I understand all design houses went kind of "due to covid" crazy and jack up the prices. But it just doesn't make sense to my logical sense. And many designer bags, despite costing over 2k used to make sense to spend more money in many reasons.

As far as LV.. They're a butt of jokes. Many have mentioned issues of trendy designs and churning out season and season like they're Zara or H&M. But it's also the whole short changing us as a consumers. They don't use real brass any more, canvas keeps getting thinner and peeling is a known issue. And as I have mentioned above, they don't pay their workers well enough to maintain the quality and values of the company. It's no longer about French craftsmanship. It's purely money driven and it's completely illogical at this point.

Can I afford another canvas piece? Yes, but do I want to keep spending on the company not really. I still haven't decided but I'm leaning more towards no.

They are after all businesses. They forgot Mr. Louis Vuitton's original heart. Hope their quality gets back on track and pays their workers what they deserve(Actually, I don't know how low LV pays their craftsmen, maybe not increased the same ratio as the price increase which is normal universally, my boss did not pay me according to the inflation, well... )

"Workers were also protesting low wages and last-minute notice for schedule changes, he said."

I thought I saw this news recently. Kind of surprised that it didn't make bigger splash?

I did, and it makes sense... why would you still sell a Speedy for $600 when you can bump it up to $800 as it's still more competitive than a new one (I'm pulling these figures out of thin air).
What grinds my gears is the huge mark up on cles/mini pochette because they're being/have been discontinued on resale sites. I saw a cles on TheRealReal today for over $1000 AUD, that is INSANE. I bought mine over 10 years ago for $250 AUD... to me that is taking the piss (and has nothing to do with LV other than them discontinuing it :annoyed:).

That is because this isn't a sign a mistreated workers or necessarily bad wages either (depending on your perspective of course). This is a sign of the dialogue between employees and employers working the way it should be working in France. Protests and strikes happen every year all over Europe and it's not a scandal, it's a part of the system there. France has a lot of checks and balances in place to protect workers, more so than most other countries in the world. Allowing them to do this is one of those checks and balances. France should really be the least cause of concerns when it comes to worries about mistreated workers.

I think when LV prices are more expensive than Hermes prices.. it just doesn't make sense.

Similar. And there agenda ranges no longer makes sense either to me.

Honestly, though, I find H’s pricing to reasonable for a premier designer outside of bags. The price difference is made up for in patience (H moves at its own pace) and having to buy across the brand to be offered bags, but there's currently a lot of good stuff there if you're interested in other categories and are alright waiting years for some things.

Personally, I'm tripping out on the price difference between LV and Cartier on comparable items:

That said, all of the price increases are blowing my mind. I'm hitting that age, I guess, but I was looking at the Fossil x Smiley backpack and even though it's two pieces in one and Fossil's a good brand, I can't help but think about how it's the same price as my first LV. Does make me more inclined to get that Cartier bracelet above though.

And more metal on Cartier I think?

I started buying lv bags 20 years ago. My first bag I bought was the papillon 26 for $450 in 2002. Almost every bag was about $400 back then. So most of my lv bags I bought for less than 1k (except the westminster in 2011 for 1200 - side note the neverfull gm was about 800/900). I bought a couple lv bags here and there but in 2014 I started to focus on chanel and hermes bags. The last lv bag (not clutch) I bought was in 2013 (the Eva bag in Paris for $450).. Now I'm thinking of buying an lv bag (either speedy 20 or metis) and wished I bought earlier. So regret not getting it back then but then I wouldn't have bought some of my other H or C bags. Haha. The price increase is inevitable for every brand. I just try to buy when I can before any further increase... lol.

Yes! So I treat the preloved market the same as buying new. When I suspect there is going to be a price increase in the new market, I turn to preloved and snap up what I have on my wishlist. Just got my Cartier bracelet preloved before the new market price increase rumored in May.

I'm not necessarily priced out of LV bags but I don't feel the items are worth the prices asked, and I'm not a fan of any of their leather pieces so that leaves less to pick from. The quality hasn't drastically improved (and then switching to canvas straps over leather and asking more) so I feel like I'm just being asked to pay more with no real improvements. I have purchased fewer and fewer LV items over the past 2 years and it's helped me to notice other brands and shop less with LV. I still pick up some items here and there, but almost always canvas and I do look for it preloved first. I don't fault them for price increases--that's business--I just buy less.

Same canvas lovers here! Also, I don't have many options either. Already collected most of the pieces I like. If I buy more, will be same item in a different canvas print, not sure if redundant
