Have you been priced out of collecting LV and resent it or do you see current price rising trends as a positive?

Great question and conversation!

Forty years ago I got my first LV, a keepall. My parents paid $295. According to an inflation calculator that would be $867 today…..instead it is $2170!

My bag still looks amazing….ironically, I have been thinking about posting pictures because it looks so good at 40!…but I do not think today’s bags would last the abuse I put this bag through.

Mine is 35 years ago also purchased by my parents in Beverly Hills (Rodeo Dr. I think). I wish I had kept the very lovely paper catalog that came with it that had all the line drawings of all the items. My keepall needs a new zipper, but the patina....

At a certain price point, my priorities shift to other things.

I love LV and will probably buy a small thing or two in the future. The prices are borderline crazy. Not only is the quality an issue, but their packaging kind of sucks. And some of the designs have just missed the mark with me (a little tired and uninspired for the most part).

I've been leaning more towards pre-loved items I missed out on because I got onto the LV game a couple of years ago.

I don’t have too many bags really, but I love the ones I have. I have a few pieces that I have held on to, and just bought the bandouliere strap with coin purse in black to wear with my Pochette accessoires and swap between other bags. I love my Pochette and the canvas is so much nicer than more modern pieces. It’s from 2007. I also didn’t want to buy the multi Pochette! I think I will do the same and buy a little piece here and there or preloved. I have a Mazarine mm in taupe and the quality is outstanding, whereas the grand Palais has been sent back for a quality check due to abnormal wear. I love the Mazarine so much I’m on the hunt for a PM, the leather is so lush! Definitely better quality in the older pieces, I can’t justify buying from the newer collections due to this.

Yes, I bought a preloved 2011 Pochette Accessoires (at the time out of frustration in that it simply wasn’t available to buy new), but the minute I got my hands on it the quality of the canvas took my breath away compared to my newer pieces. It’s one of my most worn bags now.

Exactly! Mine is from 2007 and still looks amazing. The canvas is so supple and still in perfect condition! It has been well used over 15 years and still going strong!

I want to say that "priced out" is not the term I would use. I want to say "more conscious" of how I spend my money now. I've been buying LV for 10 years, but really only started during COVID out of sheer boredom at times.

There's literally new drops every month so I have to absolutely LOVE something at first sight to purchase it. I have to go through several "Come to Jesus" talks with myself and ask myself if I can live without this piece and if I will regret it later or not. Am I just buying this because of FOMO? Can I justify this cost and do I really need another (bag, wallet, scarf, bandeau, Keychain etc)?

For sure of the price increases now, I couldn't justify buying the same piece at a higher cost than I paid.

the drastic price increases at lv started even before the sharp rise in costs. to an extent that cannot be justified by increased costs. my impression is that lv wants fewer cheaper items, wants to sort out the clientele and get closer to the price level of other luxury lavels. when I think about how the neverfull has increased in price over the last 3 years:
Spring/Summer 2019: 1310€
2020 1540€
2022: 2000€
that is a decent percentage that cannot be justified by increased costs.
for me, the question now is whether an article is worth the money. I'll take an MP with me for €350, I'll think about it for €500. the more expensive an item, the higher the demands.

I am kind of priced out in the sense that price and value of what I am getting from LV don´t go hand in hand anymore. I am totally regretting not having bought some items (mainly SLGs) 6 years ago. But back then I would have never anticipated that prices will rise as crazy as they did the past 3 years. I always thought "well you can still buy this later" - when all the nice SLGs where readily available and reasonably priced. I totally miss the times when you could just walk into an LV boutique and get whatever you wanted (e.g. mono key pouch, mini pochette).

But today seeing those crazy prices there are only a few items left I would still consider buying - and that list is very short, mainly (still) the Speedy B 25 DE (heavens know why I still haven´t bought that one ), another Alma BB epi (still waiting for a turquoise one - maybe one day...) , perfumes and a monogram shawl.

Yes it is somehow nice to know that I could sell my older LV items without a loss these days, but I am actually not planning on selling them. Because when they are gone they will never be replaced...

"Price Available Upon Request" or something like that. I'm
I hate phone calls and I hate waiting. We live in an instant society with information overload with the touch of our fingers! So this is very annoying to me. So when I see this on the LV website, I just ignore that item altogether or just leave the website.

That’s right. I’ll be holding onto all of my canvas items even if tempted to sell - it’s not worth letting them go and just never being able to replace.
