It’s my moms 75th birthday this month. Covid (and DH’s moms epitheleal peritoneal mesothelioma) has made me feel that life is short. I shouldn’t wait to get my mom’s dream bag. So I paid over retail, but still far less than insane reseller prices, for a new 30B craie, brushed gold hw. She’s very very happy. (to be clear, this is a lifetime kind of gift, not a yearly occurrence) and I would never pay over retail (I prefer rescue deals) for any bag for myself.

thank you @cheremushki and @Sunshine mama for your kind words! Hugs

Congrats!!!

I've spent about a Chanel flap's worth on engraved stationery. I started writing people during the pandemic and needed a new printing of my original set. I decided it's a good time to try something new so, ended up with 4 completely different designs. I better keep up with my letter/note writing or else my stationery will outlast me.
omg I need to see it!! I just got into fountain pens, so kinda my alley. Wait.. I just read "Chanel flap's worth". May don't show me.

Yes, in terms of which bag I am currently using. I don't feel comfortable flashing designer items right now when many people are suffering or have lost things/family during Covid. However I do prefer to have designer handbags, even if it is just for the grocery store or running an errand. Instead of wearing Chanel I would choose something that people wouldn't know (unless you know).

I only have a few luxury items and have never felt the need to excessively expand my items. During the pandemic, out of boredom I do spend more time viewing handbags, lusting after a few, viewing vlogs with influencers and their extensive collection. Whilst I get tempted I take my time and remember my end goals. I've become really strict on my spending for this year.

So I wonder if anyone is in a similar head space as me? I'm in both "oh, I want something now" but at the same time "ugh, I don't want anything".

Also since pandemic, my purchases has shifted to stationaries... So I want to get LV agenda, but at the same time I don't want the fuss of hunting for things. I mean I've always thought it was ridiculous that we're spending so much money and having to go on a hunt and pester SAs.. But at this point I really don't want to bother.

No not much has changed in terms of my perspective on designer goods. I haven't really purchased any in a long time and I have been making more during covid. I spend most of my miscellaneous money on take out which is kind of bad. lol I was thinking about purchasing a new vehicle during the summer but seeing as my car is still in great condition, I think I will put that off. Instead I have an itch to invest in a new condo property - been obsessing with one I saw that is a 2 floor 2200 square ft condo loft. I am still debating about pulling the trigger on putting in a bid for the place. Though I kind of want it now.

Truth be told, my perspective changed precovid but I'll stick to the topic.

During the pandemic I focused on acquiring plants last year, building my pandemic shelf (toilet paper, paper towel, soap, hand sanitizer, masks and lysol aerosol sprays), filling my pantry (can't go thru empty grocery shelves again) and helping others who were down and out - cash, masks, food, booze and even a air filter (she had horrid allergies).

I do know that luxury retail fell by 75% and that the sa make $18/hr sans commission. Yet stuff is selling out immediately, go figure.

I'm more focused on rebuilding my savings and hopefully retiring one day. Until then I'll just live vicariously through everyone else:flowers:

I look at my bags and SLGs now and think what else could I possibly need? Prior to the pandemic, I never felt I was putting myself in financial harm by purchasing similar items in the seasons latest color. But after the pandemic, I am like :whut:. I hope I don't end up like my Grandma saving excessive amounts of rubber bands and aluminum foil because you just never know. I want to put my money now towards experience. Travel and life experience. I think I have plenty of designer bags to carry to these experiences at this point.

If there is one thing I’ll always pay full price for or spend more $$ on is for my parents but especially my mom whose always put me first.

it’s really not about the money at the end of the day but experience and joy and yes, life is too short to wait. It’s not about not having patience, it’s about making the most of the present.
