Has the pandemic changed your perspective on designer purchases?

Nordstrom has been a net winner of my spending during the pandemic. I never really shopped there before, nor did much online shopping in general, but during the last year the store with friendliest return and shipping policies won me over. I still can't believe it's so easy to shop there... love it. They really have their system down to a T.

They kidnapped employees?
Was it a big deal if you were mistaken for a PS?
If only, they had more designers items. It would be perfect.
How is Saks for workers?
No they kidnapped little children. Hence the term kidnappers.

Yes it was a big deal as since I was a wrapper I couldn't get commission from the sales I made, hence the free for all frenzy similar to a shark feeding.

I have no idea how saks is for workers as Nordys was on my only retail stint ever.

FYI, you can kidnap my AARP ass technically and grammatically that is
IRL, nah. Kick your azz:lol:

This past year I’ve learned that life is short and I will enjoy each moment. I have bought more Chanels than I ever thought I would in a life time. I have stopped purchasing all other items which I have so much of already like clothes and shoes. I decided to use up my stock of makeup and skin care before buying anything new. While my handbag collection is a bit excessive even for me I thoroughly enjoy my purses and so I am ok with it. If something brings a smile to your face each time you wear it then it’s worth it in my eyes. And that’s Chanel purses for me.

Since the height of the Covid, I have bought some items despite telling myself I'm cutting ALL discretionary spendings. And I'm quiet minimalist when it comes to spending. Most notable spending has been my YSL woc for my birthday. After working from home for several months and dealing with guilt and stress we were experiencing apocalyptic like conditions(quiet literally). My city was covered with smokes from Washington fire and clouds of moths and of course Covid still prevailing, I thought it was a chapter out of a bible. I cracked and bought it. I worked, toiled, cried and you know what. If this is indeed end of the world, I'm going out in style.

Come now, Covid is still a thing. Throughout this whole time you see how money has been moving around. How it HAS been moving around. And how unjust and how loudly injustice is becoming.

And everything turns me off. LV, Chanel and all the reselling market. I got sick of it all.

I turned off all the news feed from groups. I'm not even going into instagram reseller's pages. Nothing.

So far this year, I bought 1 wallet. A keepsake for an achievement that I've been putting off for 2 years. It takes me really long time to make luxury purchases and price hikes spurred me on. Don't get me wrong, I still love it. And it has deep meaning to it because of the achievement I had to make to purchase the item. But I can't help feel that it's been tainted by the LVMH greed/strategic scheme. Even more of push to turn me off to the whole luxuries.

So now, I collect money. I collect stocks. And I've turn to journaling. Any Hobonichi fans?

I still enjoy everything I own. I worked very hard for them. I bought it all on my own. They all are place marker of my life. But future purchases?? I'm not quite sure.

Thanks for letting me rant.. It's that kind of Saturday...I hope everyone is having a good day off?

Yes to Hobonichi. Have been eyeing it for a while now. Fell in love with Tomoe River paper after trying out the plain notebook for daily thoughts. Trying out Cousin (A5) for work and Techo (A6) for personal planning next year.

Omg kindred spirit! And you even have TWSBI RG in white! I have one in smoke. Fountain pen is just amazing on the tomoe paper! I can't bring myself to use it for work though. This year I'm using A6 English for daily painting/drawing and LV agenda MM for work.

My next year line up is A6 English for daily drawing/painting, A5 original for brain dump/memory keeping and LV agenda MM for work. I plan on using my LV desk agenda cover to house A5 original.

Are you in hobonichi groups in the facebook?

If you look closely, you will see the Smoke Rose Gold TWSBI Eco with the Cousin planner I’m also obsessed with fountain pens…5 TWSBI Eco nibs ranging from EF to B, a Leonardo Officina Italiana Momento Zero and a Platinum Maki-e Cherry Blossom.

LV Agenda PM in Epi Noir is my little black book that I carry all the time.

I just placed an order for Hermes Ulysse PM with refill when I woke up this morning and saw it online. The Ulysse MM is great for lots of writing but it’s sitting in my drawer most of the times. A plain Hobonichi Cousin size as daily journal in the Midori Goat Leather cover.

Recently bought the Traveler’s Notebook and Passport size as there was a sale on our local site that I couldn’t resist! I think I’m going nuts!

I've been eyeing up the iris vac in extra fine. That will become my second TWSBI. I also want a kaweco sport with a gold clip but not fan of their loading mechanism.

Thanks for Hermes... now I've been googling up about Ulysse PM Neo all night. I think I need it!!!

Do we have stationary/fountain pen group in the purse forum? We should make one!

TWSBI Vac in Iris is beautiful but I discovered there’s a lot more value for money fountain pens at that pricing. Not a fan of Kaweco because of the design.

Yes, I think you need the Ulysse PM Neo too, the size is perfect for Hobonichi Techo. It fits, you could use velcro tape to on the Hobonichi and the plastic strip that comes with Hermes refill to hold them together. I’m also eyeing the new Hermes Ulysse Universel that fits A5 notebook as it has side flaps instead of the press buttons.

I’m unsure if there’s a Stationery forum in TPF? I hardly see any discussion about agenda except for the LV’s agenda clubhouse and here and there about Hermes Ulysse and Hobonichi.

I live in Japan and almost everyone is very dressy. Designer bags and shoes/scarves/belts are on almost everyone.

I turned vegan around 3 years ago and sold my leather LV (I bought it preloved in Japan at the store that has more Birkins in stock than anywhere else including actual Hermes stores, it was an early 2000 model, made in France and really well made. Indestructible). I had decided on a preloved one because the quality had been declining and prices rising on new ones.

Anyway since I had children, and especially since I was vegan and decided I was having a minimal wardrobe, I was always the kind of scruffy looking one on the train wearing my linen. I felt smug as all my purchases were ethical but at the same time I didn't feel good about myself. I felt scruffy and ugly. I had about 20 wardrobe items (by choice) at the beginning of the pandemic and wore almost every piece at least once a week. Many are now completely worn through and I realised during the pandemic, life is too short. I should find some things that make me feel good about myself. That really fit me and make me feel fabulous. I'm really tall (5'11") and pretty much only designer clothes ever have the length I need in the leg and arms. I'm not saying go out and buy fast fashion, but a few designer pieces (as long as all the materials are vegan) is okay in my mind. Most will be made in Europe anyway and I assume the garment workers will be paid at least minimum wage.

I got a Stella McCartney falabella bag this month and I'm loving it. I only had one handbag (a people tree canvas bucket bag, under $100) again by choice (my husband is dresses head to to in designer goods most days, though usually Paul Smith and Burberry as he really loves British designers). I do like the luxury feel and quality of a lot of products, but I also like to try and buy from brands that are taking sustainability and climate change at least somewhat seriously. I won't buy leather ever again after realising that skin is the most valuable part of the cow. In actuality it means they are killed for their skins and then the rest is a byproduct that people happen to eat. I always assumed it was the other way round.

Oh, I did also have a change in heart about jewellery. I always bought silver or like costume jewellery (I used to buy a lot of Vivienne Westwood, love the sort of punk/rock vibe) but I've decided I'm going to save up for some proper fine jewellery. Cartier love and clash bracelets and maybe a bvlgari one. Some nice earrings too, katkim earpin, Anna Ko safety pin. I haven't come across a necklace I like the look of so far though. I have the intention of passing them down to grandchildren if I'm lucky enough to have any so I think spending a lot on jewellery is okay. I just wish they could guarantee fair trade and proper working conditions. Oh and i'll probably buy the bracelets preloved in Japan at the same store. Earrings probably new.
