Hahahhahahah, this is me to the T. AND same with the preloved Chanel!! I tried to see if I can work LV to the hike and i HAVE worn LV pochette accessories to ONE hike with bf. BF was shaking his had.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I have also seen one woman wearing dior lady mini to the hike up the rocks. I was holding my breathe with the lambskin. But good to see that she can enjoy it regardless of location. It looked fab against the mountain backdrop.:biggrin::biggrin:
Hahaha! I would love to have seen that! I am the exact same - we were going to meet up with some of my fiancé’s friends in a park and he looked at me all worried and said “you’re bringing Louis?? It’s going to be muddy and we’ll be hiking...” I was like omg dammit are we ever just going to go somewhere where I can wear my fancy things !! Damn

I also just moved to Seattle recently, and the winter has REALLY been bumming me out! Thank God spring days are on the horizon...I also feel weirder about using my designer handbags now, if that makes any sense...I know Seattle is a very diverse, vibrant city, but I feel like the new friends / people we hang out with are much more the hiking, nature-y types so I even feel conspicuous using my LV PM, which was my go-to bag in my old city. Meanwhile I'm eyeing a preloved Chanel (it would be my first) but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger because I'm like ugh will I ever really feel totally comfortable using it? But also who cares what others think, why don't I just use the bags I love? sigh. First world problems for sure!!
I’m in the same position. I buy a pair of simple feminine shoes in France and then come back home where it’s trainers only and I’m like arrgh. Where I live it’s basically a mix of nerds, hiking style and people of Walmart. I already stand out so much just wearing a city wool coat and not an old wind breaker. I’m dying dreaming of summer, temperatures are between -8 and 15 degrees Celsius here though...a summer here is literally the temperature of a winter in southern Spain.

Definitely! The year 2020 was all about buy buy buy while I can. I was also in a new area (different state and rural) and didn’t have anything else to do for fun so I bought so many handbags. It was the only thing that kept me happy. I was miserable! I stalked preloved luxury websites for the next thing to add to my collection. I would rotate my designer bags even if it was simply to go grocery shopping or a car ride to nowhere.

This year has been different. I’ve moved again but this time to the city. I don’t use ANY of my designer bags. I’ve been using my no name brand bags, simple designs, and bags that are durable. I don’t want to draw attention to myself nor do I feel the designer items make me happy anymore. I’ve already downsized all that buying I did last year. I feel I can downsize even more but since my handbag hobby comes in waves I’ve decided to hold off.

I feel I am not alone in this. A lot people bought luxury in 2020 and are selling in 2021 as they take another look at their collection. It can also be reflected in the selling prices offered from fashionphile. They are offering me a lot less this year than last year for the same item.

I look forward to better days. For now my designer bags sit in my closet.

For me it's happening as I get older. I'm 30 now and a lot of the designer things I bought in my early 20's I think were a waste, but I also think I needed to learn that lesson. I still enjoy having a few nice pieces of jewelry, and quality clothes - but I'm done with the endless collecting/accumulating of luxury. I'd rather put that money in my IRA or in stocks now. It's only me and my dog so I have to think about the future. I don't really go out or travel as much either anymore. I enjoy spending time with my dog. I'm a lot more selective about how and where and with who I spend my money.

When I first moved up here to western WA (2004) folks asked me where I was going (as in, an event or such) because my clothes matched and I accessorized. Simple clothes like jeans, black boots, a cardigan and a necklace which is extremely casual IMO = “fancy wear” I’m originally from TN so makeup/hair/etc is “automatic” (I’m also a little old-school that way)

Over the years I’ve assimilated to a degree but I’ve come to understand I may always stand out a touch because I’m not petite, love cowboy boots, my makeup, and nice handbags. Of course there’s tons of very well kempt ladies up here who are well out my league but the vast majority I see are the fleece-wearing type (upon which I pass no judgement whatsoever because they’re never unnerved by the weather )

Lord willing, this summer I hope to use everything and break in some of the goods I bought during the pandemic. Heck, I’m excited to go to the grocery for myself.

I think that's one of the things I love about the PNW is how lax the dress code is there. I can be ultra fancy with minimal effort lol.

Most of the brands I buy are contemporary designers so there hasn't been as big of an increase (that I've noticed). Before the pandemic, I rarely purchased preloved bags. I changed my perspective recently and now really enjoy searching for discontinued bags and accessories. I definitely agree that there's a "chase" factor lol.

Agreed! And it‘s funny because the minute I open my mouth and the drawl comes out, folks seem to understand why I might be that way.
Love this!!!
I was like you before the pandemic, so I can relate!
I have to get dressed or else my level of mental wellness slips. I’d say I get dressed (hair/makeup) 9/10 days. At the beginning of the pandemic I made a pact with myself on that - not because I think otherwise is unacceptable or lazy - but until I returned to some old creative hobbies and a few online college courses, I knew I’d slip into a depression or malaise if I didn’t keep up some sense of “normalcy.” I didn’t have a job to quit/lose due to Covid and had quit working in 2019 to caregive to a relative, so I already knew the dangers losing routines has on my mind. You can imagine me making something in the airfryer in full garb and be totally correct

Great topic! I go through phases of what I buy and don't buy. When we were under lockdown I definitely bought more homewares (pots and pans) online, than unnecessary things like clothes or accessories. Then it got to Black Friday and I bought three pairs of sneakers! So, if I think I am getting a good discount I will buy something. But when it comes to luxury goods that never go on discount, I have bought a couple of items of jewellery - the design has to really appeal to me though.
