Has anyone seen the MK bags that look like speedys?

He even makes one that looks so similar to the Totally and the Neverfull.... I didn't like it!!! He makes some cool different bags that I would totally buy, but definitely not the ones that look like a copy of a LV... I don't think that's cool at all...

The MK EW Tote bag was out before the LV Totally was out...

I didn't know it either, but apparently the MK one has been out way longer. I have the MK one (vanilla) and I love it, but I don't like the Totally :( The color just doesn't fit the model, I think.

Yeah! I don't know there's something about the shape that doesn't talk to me! It's a better option for those who like zippers and dislike the Neverfull though...

The MK one doesn't have a zipper. And the shape is totally different. The reason I don't like the Totally is the zipper makes it look a bit strange (IMHO). I think the size pockets could put someone off, though, so I get you!

I really like most of MK's Astor line...the ones that DON'T look like LV knock-offs! I have one of his newer uptown astor satchels with a longer shoulder strap. I dont use it much, but its cute. i do not like the fact that most of his (and other 2nd tier designers) bags are such copycats of higher end designers. MK even has flats out that are almost identical to TB Revas...just a couple different details! Originality seems to be lacking for many of these designers!

I saw these today while I was shopping at Macy's and I couldn't believe Michael Kors would so blatantly copy Louis Vuitton like that! Obvious attempt at a damier azur and a mono speedy. He even makes different sizes!

I too pointed this out to my friend, but in regard to his Neverfull looking bag. I got the whole "well there aren't a lot of possible bag shapes and you can't copyright a shape" story... which, honestly, made me want to smack her. It's not the SHAPE alone that ticks me off. It's the SHAPE plus the COLOR plus the DESIGN. Michael Kors whole design process was literally, "See that LV Neverfull (or Speedy)? Make that, but change the LV to MK. Tada! My new creation." It's gross. The "neverfull" one even has the loose pocket inside!!! C'MON! Thin straps? Check. Two shades of brown? Check. Straps in vachetta color? Check. Initials all over bag? Check. Visually, there's not much different aside from LV versus MK being printed. Yuck.

MK is a nice designer who has bags that you recognize as being his right away... this should be BENEATH HIM. I expect it from cheap brands like XOXO (who have been ripping off the mc mono for years), but not from other higer end designers. It's sad and makes me lose respect for MK.

He had a Chanel looking line a short time ago, too... quilted leather, chain straps, convertible ways to wear the FLAP bags... but he added a padlock to the front. It was significant enough that you could at least tell the different from a distance. I accepted that line, even though I thought there was a fine line. With the brown mono MK stuff... ugh. Nope.

I have both the MK camo bag that looks like a Totally, and the Totally Azur PM by LV... the MK bag is actually more functional. It holds more, opens more, etc. I also like that the zipper is optional, you can disconnect it. The LV Totally had better straps though. I'm under the impression that MK had this bag style before LV did... I could be wrong, but that's how it is in my head and I don't find it offensive... UNLESS it's the MK Brown Mono one. THAT looks like a rip off.

Here is an MK 'mirror speedy' I saw at Macys today. I'm wondering if the leather on these bags darkens like LV. I saw a lot of people w/the MK bags but the leather was light. Didn't like the 'neverfull' style bag. It felt and looked cheap. Some of the other bags were nice.

My mother has the smaller version of this bag in gold, and I have a camo tote by MK with the same type of straps. Neither of ours have darkened at all and I do not believe that they do. They are not vachetta, they are some sort of treated leather. Unless you actually get them dirty somehow, they should stay the color that they are.

Definitely agree with that.

I bought the MK satchel that looks like a speedy nearly a year ago, specifically, because it resembles a LV. I haven't carried another bag since(have 6 other Coach bags, two brand new with tags in my closet) as I love the coated canvas, perfect for the unpredictable weather we have. I want a LV, but wasn't able to purchase one last year, and am hoping to in the near future. For those who cannot afford LV(without having to sell a lung/kidney/major organ) MK is a nice alternative. I was seriously considering returning the 2 brand new bags, to help finance the LV of my choice.

I don't believe that LV has a copyright on the doctor bag/speedy shape. I say this only because several handbag designers have doctor bag shaped purses. There are only so many ways you can shape a top handle bag. Eventually they will look similar. Dooney & Bourke has "speedy-shaped" bags in an array of really pretty colors. Borrowing ideas is quite common in the fashion world. Goyard was personalizing bags with stripes and initials before LV.

Having said all that, I still prefer LV and plan to get my third speedy pretty soon. :p
