has anyone heard about a ban letter from coach ???

The SA in my outlet told me that 2 ladies had just bought lots of bags and told them they were going back to India to sell them. she said Coach will start tracking their sales and ban them from shopping. I mean the ladies told them they were reselling. So that was a gimme but it made me think that a SA can put this information into the system.

How would coach track people selling in India! LOL. Unless they employ the feds, there is no way. They have hard enough time tracking eBay sellers, and eBay HAS all the sellers' names, addresses, CC info, etc!

I think this means tracking them if they ever buy from Coach again. But more than likely this could have been a one time purchase they made while in the US and they will never buy from Coach again anyway

okay wow guys these stories are eye openers and i was talking to one of my friends whose mother has been a SA for over 15 yrs and is now manager and she says that these letters are new policies(5-7 yrs) ironincally began soon after coach went global such as china and europe and they are priced twice as much as the prices we pay here (after the currency change) and therefore alot of people who originated from that country began to sell them across the border causing international coach retails to have a significant lost in sells regardless of the reason i feel alot of innocent consumers are getting caught in the witch hunt of resellers its quite upsetting as much as i love coach if i were to be banned bc of over spending then i would prob not jump through hurdles to attain their products and shift my choice of purses as much as i hate thinking about it

Well maybe if Coach prices were similar internationally, there would be no need for resellers bring back stock, lol I understand I will pay more for an imported item, but not nearly double the retail price in it's home country,

On the 3 item maximum policy, it is quite inconsistent. I have been to the outlets in Vegas and bought 4 bags and a wallet by myself but at the Woodbury outlets, my Mum and I could only purchase a maximum of 3 items each! Ridiculous in my opinion

Something a friend who is not a Coach fan said to me recently. The problem with so many people buying and reselling Coach bags, especially on eBay, is that it devalues the brand, something that Coach and other retailers are constantly struggling to fight against in an uphill battle. The market is flooded with multiples of the same bag. That's why sellers who just want to sell a pre-loved bag to buy a new one can't get close to what they paid for it, even at the outlet price. Granted, there are some exceptions like with limited edition and Legacy bags.

I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but as a relative Coach newbie, to me what really devalues the brand is how quickly items go to outlet. Why would someone want to buy a bag at $498 when 1-2 months later it is at outlet for $250 or less? Maybe Coach should consider NOT deleting bags so quickly so the full price bags will hold their value a little better. From what I have seen, the outlets do just fine selling the MFF stuff anyway. As for ebay, you can always tell what has recently been deleted by just perusing new listings on ebay. Ugh.

There's more to banning than just buying too many bags. When I first went crazy purse shopping at the Vegas Coach outlets, I too worried about purchasing too many bags or having too many returns. So I asked one of the managers outright if I could be banned. She laughed at me! She said we know you're not a reseller because you don't buy multiples and you wear what you buy.

It's buying bags to resell as an unauthorized reseller, using friends and relatives to bypass the outlet purchase limits, buying bags and shipping them out of the country for resell, buying legit bags and returning fake bags or bags without dustbags or hangtags, returning too many bags without receipts, buying a bag, using it and then returning it claiming you never used it (multiple times), buying jacked up bags on ebay just so you can abuse Coach's repair/replace policy and get credit letters, etc.

And, unfortunately, some honest people do get caught up in the ban especially with Coach's generous return policy.

There's almost always more going on than meets the eye. We have no way of knowing the reasons behind the particular bans. I wouldn't worry if you aren't abusing the policy in any way.

This happens for so many products, not just Coach. There is something called the ipod index which compares the variations in prices of Apple products in different markets. Because of the variations in prices, a gray market has emerged. There are other products which are more expensive in the US than in other countries and it can't be explained away by import duties. The companies charge what they think the market will bear.

I have heard of people from England buying a bunch of Coach to take back to their friends because it is hard to find Coach there. The Indians probably shouldn't have been so upfront about what they were going to do. They might have meant they were going to sell them to their friends.

When did they start a 3 item limit? Every time I have gone to the outlet, it was a limit of 5 siggy and 5 leather, but scarves and keychains didn't count. The last time I made an outlet trip, I shopped at three different outlet stores. I don't recall if my combined purchases exceeded the limit but I wonder if they are tracking that.

Interesting point and true imho.

Not going to lie, I worry about "the letter" even though I hardly ever return anything and I'm not a super high volume buyer...at least I don't think so. But I will sometimes buy two of the same fob or something (one for my sis) if I think she'll like it, and I did buy 3 Willis bags (different colors). I recently bought a cute silver bangle from the on-line outlet sale but then I lost it-i just looked down at my arm and it was gone :shucks:. So I thought about re-buying when I got invited this week. Even had it in my cart and entered my cc info but then I thought "uh oh....what if they think i'm a reseller?! I better not." Maybe I'm just paranoid but I don't want to get the letter!

I have no idea when they started this 3 item limit but it seems to be irregularly applied. Perhaps because they identified us as international tourists, I dont know. I cant remember now if scarves etc were included.

I assume if you pay with cash they still enforce the number you can purchase at checkout, but seems to me it would be impossible to track, correct? Unless they refuse to let you purchase without inputting your information which would seem a bit ridiculous since cash is the only somewhat anonymous (other than video surveillance) of doing monetary transactions these days. Has anyone tried this? DH suggested we try this at a Coach store I don't frequent just to see if they'll let me purchase without giving personal info.

But I'll first have to check over his head for the black Coach helicopters that might be flying overhead...

You should have called C'S about your bracelet. I bought one at FP and the same thing happened, I looked down and it was gone!! I contacted C'S about it and they replaced it!

They must like you lol, i got nothing. Well I called and they they said they couldn't even allow me to reorder because that bracelet isn't even part of the current sale. they didn't say it was oos, just not being offered currently

I just bought about 9 Coach bags this week when visiting a far outlet. Most were for me and some were for family.

I had purchased 2 of the same bag in the same week because I saw the same one the second day and purchased it because my sister really liked it.

A few weeks prior I bought 1 bag and the day from another outlet while travellling and found the same one but bigger last week.

When I purchased these bags I was warned I cant buy anymore because I was going over the limit, I was kind of shocked because my intention was purchasing myself. So I googled and saw this ban letter now I'm worried that they might think I'm reselling these which I am not. The reason I bought 9 were because I live far away and will not get this oppurtunity for a while. Maybe till summer or next year.

I purchased a few totes, a cross body and a wallet.

I LOVE Handbags and Id rather give the money to something with quality like Coach.

Does anyone think I will get banned if I buy 3-4 next time?

Thanks!

**EDIT: The first day I purchased 4 bags and did not have time to look further. I came back next morning and purchased about 5 more and heard staff saying "she was hear yesterday bla bla bla" to each other and kept asking if they were GIFTS. I don't understand why I cant purchase for myself? Is that a big deal? I also held a lot of wallets in my hand and I was going to see which ones I actually wanted so no one else takes it and this customer looked at me and gave me a dirty look and went and actually tattled to the employee there and said, "SHE HAS ALL THE WALLETS!" - (I had about 4 in my hand and the shelf was FULL of more wallets) and that is when I heard another employee tell the customer "she was here yesterday"

Wow, how rude of the SAs to say anything of the kind in front of you! and worse, to discuss your shopping (being in the store the day prior) with another customer...what?! I'd be annoyed and on the phone with Coach in a second!
