has anyone heard about a ban letter from coach ???

Coach has a really generous return policy and of course, some people abuse it. It's unfortunate but that's just the way it will be... until Coach develops a strict return policy.

Wow, I hope I don't get banned! I have bought a LOT this past month! And I do shop on line a LOT and if I don't like a bag, I return it locally. That should not be a reason to ban a paying customer who loves your products!!!

Katherine

Why not return it to JAX?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read here that when you return a bag to a Coach store, the store takes a hit on it's numbers that day.

I think that Coach's policies sometimes actually drive customers to buy from the resellers! The outlet recently had the legacy striped Julia ID card cases for $15 and I wanted to buy 7 of them - because I plan to insert gift cards/lottery tickets and give them to the admin staff in my office for admin professionals day in April.

But I was only allowed to buy 3 because of the rule against multiples. I understand that rule but they have my entire buying history in their computer, so couldn't they just check and verfiy that I rarely purchase mulitples and let me have them this one time?!

I managed to snag one more on a return trip to the outlet but then I had to buy 3 of them at higher prices from ebay vendors! So instead of getting what I wanted when I wanted it, conveniently and at the best price - I was forced to buy from the resellers!

I once saw a young woman nearly in tears at the outlet because she wanted to buy several cute wristlets for her bridemaids but she couldn't because of the "no more than 3" rule!

I understand what Coach is trying to do but sometimes they are actually hurting loyal customers and driving them away!

Ugh I totally agree!!!

When I buy something, I love it at the time. When I get home, try my things in it with different outfits, it may not be what I was expecting or I simply changed my mind. I live 1 hour away from my outlet and go after I drop the kids off at school. I cannot spend hours in the store deciding and pondering each bag so I grab now and decide later. I do this on average, once a week and I am a stay at home mom. I do not resell and I do not return used items. I simply have changed my mind and return it if I do not use it.

I should be happy with each and every purchase I make and if not, I will return it bc Coach is expensive to be just sitting in my closet. I'm the one spending the money & I should be satisfied.

I do exactly the same thing! My SAs are always so sweet in telling me to buy and if not happy return later! I don't always buy the same style but I'm partial to the Lindsey's! If I am lucky enough to find a couple in diff colors, I buy one of each, take home and decide which ONE I want to keep. Ughhhh, this is a selling pitch for the SAs and a purchasing point for me....I would hate to be banned because I can't make up my mind in the 30 min I have to spend in the store...

I never return anything anymore for fear of getting "the letter" and hearing the stories here. Now I am trying to be cautious about my purchases. I buy fewer bags site unseen or bags I am indecisive about. If I do decide not to keep a bag anymore I don't return it but sell it. I am not a reseller. But am simply afraid to return bags to the store anymore. Believe me it would much simpler for me to return to the store than deal with eBay hassles. I bought a bag from the outlet that I decided was not for me. And lost the receipt, which almost never happens as I have a special box for my bag receipts. There is no way I am returning that bag without a receipt...the store credit does not bother me because I know I will buy something else....it is the possibility of this dang letter.

I can see where you would do that. I have thought about that myself just because of the letter. For me it's really hard to decide on an online purchase because I have no close FP store and often I get it home and don't like the new material they make some of the new items with and send it back.

I know that my local boutique KNOWS it has at least 2 "regular customers" who routinely buy bags there, show them off HERE and then return them. I for one think if those ladies get a ban letter - good for Coach.

Agree with this!:smile1:

It's an awful feeling when a bag just doesn't work out for you no matter how much you want it to, but if it has been carried then it should not be returned.

It's been awhile since I've been to my outlet but I dod remember seeing people just STUFFING their mesh shopping totes full! I mean like 10 bags, plus lots of wallets and wristlets. I would almost bet they are re-sellers for sure.

I know when we go to the outlet or even FP, the SA's keep on telling us to "buy it now, decide, and return if you don't love it".... But sometimes because of the idea of that dreaded "letter", it prevents you from returning an item... especially if its the "spur of the moment" thing... The managers and SA's in the outlet that I go to know that I am a very loyal customer.... they see me wear and carry Coach items... and they often ask me "Okay, what bag are you thinking of getting this time?"... if there are times that I have to return an item to their store... I always apologize because I do feel bad in returning the item... but they often say "there is no time frame for the returns... if you do not like it, you can always return it"
I must admit that I have been collecting multiple colors of the same style.... if I love the style, I want to get it in all colors...The staff in FP and outlet know that I love to purchase same style but different colors..That's just me, I guess.... but I remembered when I went to TANN, PA to get my 3 mama sages.... I was sooooo scared because they might think I am a reseller.... I was carrying my blue smoke sage and I was buying the mauve, light grey and parchment...I wanted to get the warm grey, too because my thinking was "I travelled all the way from NJ to get the bag, and the opportunity is already there... why not let me get the bag?", The SA and manager insisted that I can only get 3 of the same style and I can purchase it 2 weeks after"...I even told them to check my purchase history...But they still did not give in.. But I respect that if that is their policy. So, when I went to Jackson, and told the situation to the manager ( who I am close with), she said that is not true... Good thing, these people in Jackson know me even my family....But really, we do not know what their basis is in handing that "letter"...

I don't think eBay and resellers and fakes are the main things devaluing the brand. I think it's the fact that they make millions of cheap looking MFFs (not that all MFFs are cheap looking, but a lot are.) If they want to be perceived as a luxury brand, flooding the market with tons of bags that most people can afford isn't the way to do it. Personally I don't care whether the brand is 'devalued' or not, but they shouldn't blame customers for a problem they're causing.

I am sure that Coach makes a ton of money on their MFF items - and many of them are very nice products, especially the accessories - but I think that they should use a different brand name for the MFF products to clearly indicate that they are not the same as the more distinctive and higher-quality FP boutique products.

You know how Waterford crystal also make the Marquis brand? They are lovely and well-made pieces but it is very clear that they are not as fine or expensive as the actual Waterford products.

There's more to banning than just buying too many bags. When I first went crazy purse shopping at the Vegas Coach outlets, I too worried about purchasing too many bags or having too many returns. So I asked one of the managers outright if I could be banned. She laughed at me! She said we know you're not a reseller because you don't buy multiples and you wear what you buy.

It's buying bags to resell as an unauthorized reseller, using friends and relatives to bypass the outlet purchase limits, buying bags and shipping them out of the country for resell, buying legit bags and returning fake bags or bags without dustbags or hangtags, returning too many bags without receipts, buying a bag, using it and then returning it claiming you never used it (multiple times), buying jacked up bags on ebay just so you can abuse Coach's repair/replace policy and get credit letters, etc.

And, unfortunately, some honest people do get caught up in the ban especially with Coach's generous return policy.

^ The bolded part. My outlet manager said/did the exact same thing with me and I later ended up with a ban letter for being a reseller even though I had never once ever sold anything.
^ The italic'd part. I never ever did any one of those things either. Never even did a return without a receipt.

Getting a ban letter can happen to ANYONE that simply buys a lot.
I know for a fact firsthand............

How many purchases is considered a lot? What does the letter say? Do you still purchase Coach items ? I'm just curious. There are so many different answers and it seems it varies from store to store, SA to SA. What guidelines are we supposed to adhere to?

This is horrible!! I always allow people to buy multiples when I know they are genuinely buying gifts/ect. and not resellers. I don't have ANY patience for resellers!!!!! It is ok to make exceptions on quantities so those two instances are one offs that shouldn't represent the companies perspective. We want you to be able to come and shop for your gifts and have a good experience so I don't know why these associates didn't allow this.

She took PCP?

Haha just kidding, I'm sure you meant PCE ;)

I LOL'd!

You sound like me. I've got a nice little Sophia collection going, and I hope this isn't going to affect me in a negative way. Most of them have come from the outlet, except for one which I scored at a great price on CL (gorgeous parchment Op Art Laser cut that had been carried once with recent receipt, tags, and dustbag for $90!). I'm so picky on bag shapes and sizes that when I find a style I really love, I want to get it in as many colors as I can. I know the girls at my outlet know I'm not a reseller, and they always look to see what bag I'm carrying when I come in...they know I'm just a diehard Coach lover. But, the people handing out these letters don't know that (or me for that matter)...and that's what worries me. I don't want to get banned just because I'm selective with my bag styles. The original Sophias are just such a great fit for me that I'm drawn to them over any other style.

I'm sorry they wouldn't let you get the warm grey Sage when you bought your other ones; that sucks!

I don't know what the magic number is, but I definitely did spend tens of thousands of dollars on Coach throughout the years. The letter basically says - due to the volume of your purchases you're a reseller and you're not an authorized seller of Coach products so our stores have been notified not to sell to you anymore. That was pretty much the jist of it. I tried calling the number on the letter many times to offer them any proof they wanted that I wasn't a reseller and that I still owned all the items I bought but they never returned my calls. I was very offended to be labeled and punished for something I wasn't. But, surprisingly yes, I do still purchase Coach, mainly from Macy's and eBay. I didn't buy anything Coach at all for awhile though due to my lack of respect for their corporate policies. And here's another head scratcher, about a year or so later Coach started sending me PCE's again and even Online Outlet invitations. Makes no sense at all :shrugs:
